Pinstripe Starting QB Thread

We beat Purdue with AK and win the west.

That would have been fun.
If Athan turns out to be a 50% passer again next year then I'm going to rub it in your face until you quit this board.

Also how have you sent 12K messages in less than a year on this forum?
I wish they all would have been about my worship of AK

Oh, and it's more than a year, but I could tell you struggle with math by looking at your qb takes.

Doesn't matter he has the potential to elevate us to the next level. Would u rather stay with Alex Smith or draft Patrick mahomes

Yes, you are right, Athan Kaliakmanis is clearly analogous to Patrick Mahomes. Good take.

They drafted mahomes on potential and took a chance, cade McNamara to jj McCarthy is probably the more appropriate comparison

Okay, fine, you're right about this too. Athan Kaliakmanis is clearly as good as JJ McCarthy, the 65% passer who threw 20 TDs on 3 INTs this year

If you think tanner is so good why does the coaching staff throw the ball the least amount of times in the nation? Go look at his box scores and watch some tape my god he's an average to below average big ten QB. The point I'm trying to make is ATHAN HAS THE ABILITY TO BE WAY BETTER THEN TANNER SO ROLL WITH HIM

Play AK. Run up a 30 point lead. Okay Morgan the entire fourth quarter.

It could be because nobody can consistently get open, win contested balls, consistently catch anything less than a perfectly placed ball. Protection breakdowns. Tanner has seemingly regressed, but it’s not all on him. AK also looked great at Wisconsin but track record is extremely short.

There is nothing wrong with opining or hoping AK will be a great dual threat QB but I don’t get the wierd downplaying or ripping of Morgan who has demonstrated he can play very well in the Big Ten.

Yup. It's weird. Apparently, in order for Kaliakmanis to be great, Morgan must be awful. I just don't get it; it makes no sense at all.

Look at Morgan's career wins and passing stats, year by year. I will be thrilled if Kaliakmanis exceeds those numbers as a Gopher. If he does, he will have accomplished a lot.

Gopher Hole contributors downplaying, or outright ripping, the previous head coach or starting QB, even if they've had some success and you're surprised by it?

You've been here long enough to know to expect it. ;)

I have to agree with other posters here. If no one from the Gophers ever got hurt, while other teams still had injuries, then we would win more games.

Well, I’m ripping the receiving corps so I guess pot/kettle for me. I understand the desire for something better. I’m hopeful AK is it.

The ripping started when some wanted AK to start and finish out the season after rallying the gophers back against Nebraska. It was nothing personal, but those who wanted to look to the future and play AK were torched for that view.

Was that AK hate? Just asking!

People aren't hating on Morgan, but if saying you want to play AK, to some here, that means you hate Morgan.

It's fascinating how we all see things differently. I guess that's the beauty of message boards.

Prediction - 1st time AK has a bad game next year, someone on this board will be calling for Knuth or Viotto to play. Because it's just more fun to bag on the starting QB.

Start the season with AK and we win the west.

No biggie!

If we are luck we will see Knuth for a series late on Thursday. Next season he will be an injury away from playing.

You skipped right past the "downplaying" part. Yeah, it fits into the downplaying part.

The "hating"part has happened to other ex-coaches and quarterbacks. Which was the point of that. Though can see how it was confusing to you.

Morgan was 18/33 with 3 picks against Purdue and no one was calling for AK

He was then 4/12, and one pick against Illinois.

Once AK had to start against Penn State, wasn't intimidated and had composure, I and many called for AK to start and get ready for next year. The west had been lost anyway. This was nothing against Morgan. Some went off the rails with that. I'd say it was the right call.

At least, that's the way I remember it.

Let's try to give a more complete accounting...

— You failed to mention that Morgan threw for 257 yards against Purdue, and had a sure TD pass dropped/tipped to a defender at a key point in the game. If that pass is caught — as it should have been — Minnesota might very well have won that game and the B1G West...

— Athan Kaliakmanis played in the Illinois contest, too, but you didn't give his stat line from that one. Kaliakmanis entered the game after Morgan went down with an injury. Athan vs. the Illini: 2 of 6 for 17 yards, with 2 interceptions.

I'm not a huge tanner guy, bit I respect what he's done for the program... Either let him start and have the first series... Or let him end the game... But the VAST majority should be Athan at the helm and growing the continuity into next season.

Mo should get his yards for whatever records by half ... Then it's Evans time

My post was in response to saying the minute AK has a bad game next year, they will call for the backup.

Tanner had a bad game against Purdue and I don't remember anyone calling for the backup.

And are you seriously going to go with AK's Illinois game?.....seriously.......LMAO

Going with AK was the right call, and I know, it bugs you. It is what it is.

He has a lot of opinions (and answers) about everything. Check the politics page, he's pretty active over there too.
