Franklin is a horrible coach.

Call plays that “may” result in victory, but you have to, at a minimum, make sure you get to overtime. You have to coach up you QB better.

I mean in the end there is only so much a coach can actually do. Guarantee Aller has been coached that you can't throw the ball late over the middle of the field in a situation like that.

Players make mistakes, especially in pressure situations.

I don’t want to argue, but when you run for over 200 yards in regulation, you run the ball and guarantee overtime, at a minimum and see if you break one. Bad coaching decision. IMO

Not at all.

#1 absolutely a stupid throw into triple coverage. #2 the player who was called hit the PSU player way before the ball got there and both his arms restricted the PSU player from even being able to make a move on the catch.

Back in the day they called that faceguarding.

I don't necessarily disagree about playing it safe (although when Fleck has done that he has been ripped apart here for it). But given the timeout and clock situation I can see why they tried to get the game winning field goal in regulation as opposed to play for overtime.

They ran on first down and got good yardage which is why they decided to throw on the next play. Had they been stuffed on first down they probably just let the clock run out. Can pretty much guarantee a play for a safe throw of some kind was called on the next play, but Aller got pressured so he panicked and made a terrible decision to throw the ball into a major danger zone over the middle of the field as opposed to taking a sack or throwing it away.

The strategy decision to try and win the game in regulation is on the coaches. The pick is on Aller because he definitely was not coached to make the throw he made.

Conservative or aggressive playcalling aside, what Allar should have done was throw the ball away instead of forcing a blind pass to the middle of the field. I think Franklin would have been scrutinized no matter what he did if ND ended up getting the ball back but that play was completely on Allar. If your safer options don't open up just don't take the risk and make sure you do what you can to at the very least force ND to make a drive out of it instead of practically parking them in field goal range. Even taking the sack would have been better in that situation if you can't find a safe way to dump it out of bounds.

You 100% try win the game there after getting a chunk run on first. The play call I don’t love (do something shorter and easier) but allars decision making is the problem there and was someone forcing it to try play hero ball when he knows he’s been bad and wants to win it for his team. Could see it all over his face.

Reminded me of a certain someone storming out of the injury tent thinking he was going to lead a winning drive and following it up with his own game sealing pick

1-15 vs Top 5 teams. He does less with more and he talks his opinions in press conferences like he’s Saban.

A little off topic, but the single worst call i ever saw in any level of football was an intramural flag football game I played in at the U. We were in defense, one of my players jumped the route, leapt in front of the receiver, and intercepted the football. The ref through a flag on him for PI. We protested that he never touched the guy, and the ref responded "yeah, but it was faceguarding because his hands were in front of the receivers face when he caught the ball.

Allar appears to be in a long line of Penn State QBs that have a ton of physical ability but lack a piece or two that prevents them from being top-drawer performers. He's like Hackenberg Part Two.

Great game, but man I can't stand Notre Dame.

I noticed this too last night. What are they doing? The only thing I can think of is maybe a better chance at a return if the kick is blocked but you have to block it first.

Yeah I thought that was a odd as well. 4th and 8 so seems like you would want to sell out to block a kick they are almost certainly going to attempt as it is just a 41 yarder.

Would take some massive balls to run a fake field goal in that situation when making it would send you to the National Championship game.

I mean chances are slim they would block it regardless but unless that is what they always do on field goals it seems really odd not to send everyone to try and block a game winner.

It was a good game to watch. Too bad there weren't more in the playoffs like this one that there was. Luckily some bad calls didn't end up changing the outcome of the game. Though I think the PI call on ND was definitely correct.

It was a penalty. Look at the angle. Guy has no clue where the ball is and contact takes WR out of ability to get to the ball. The missed holding call was really the call that was bad.

At the very least, the defender impeded Warren's ability to get his hands in there and knock the pass down. It was the correct call....even if it wasn't super blatant.

Yeah, not sure how there is even anyone arguing about that one. He ran into the guy with not attempt to look for or make a play on the ball. That is about cut and dry as it gets really. If the player had turned to look and/or made a play on the ball it would be a different story. It was kinda tossed up in the air, it was basically a jump ball. The refs would not have called it if he made an attempt to play the ball as he would have had a right to make a play on the ball.

💯

Should be 7-0 OSU. Slightly high and Smith mistimed his jump but OSU still on the march. Howard looks poised and no pressure from Texas so far

Edit: and another drop but they still score. May be a long night for the Texas defense
