Granted their Tight End is lights out good. And their QB isn't. That first miss on the RB in the flat on what should have been an easy first TD really was a bad throw.
Bad throw....worse non-catch. Most junior high school kids catch that ball.....

Franklin is a horrible coach.

Call plays that “may” result in victory, but you have to, at a minimum, make sure you get to overtime. You have to coach up you QB better.

I mean in the end there is only so much a coach can actually do. Guarantee Aller has been coached that you can't throw the ball late over the middle of the field in a situation like that.

Players make mistakes, especially in pressure situations.

I don’t want to argue, but when you run for over 200 yards in regulation, you run the ball and guarantee overtime, at a minimum and see if you break one. Bad coaching decision. IMO

Not at all.

#1 absolutely a stupid throw into triple coverage. #2 the player who was called hit the PSU player way before the ball got there and both his arms restricted the PSU player from even being able to make a move on the catch.

Back in the day they called that faceguarding.

I don't necessarily disagree about playing it safe (although when Fleck has done that he has been ripped apart here for it). But given the timeout and clock situation I can see why they tried to get the game winning field goal in regulation as opposed to play for overtime.

They ran on first down and got good yardage which is why they decided to throw on the next play. Had they been stuffed on first down they probably just let the clock run out. Can pretty much guarantee a play for a safe throw of some kind was called on the next play, but Aller got pressured so he panicked and made a terrible decision to throw the ball into a major danger zone over the middle of the field as opposed to taking a sack or throwing it away.

The strategy decision to try and win the game in regulation is on the coaches. The pick is on Aller because he definitely was not coached to make the throw he made.

Conservative or aggressive playcalling aside, what Allar should have done was throw the ball away instead of forcing a blind pass to the middle of the field. I think Franklin would have been scrutinized no matter what he did if ND ended up getting the ball back but that play was completely on Allar. If your safer options don't open up just don't take the risk and make sure you do what you can to at the very least force ND to make a drive out of it instead of practically parking them in field goal range. Even taking the sack would have been better in that situation if you can't find a safe way to dump it out of bounds.
