Other Bowl Games Thread

The SMU/Penn State game tomorrow will be a stinker like this one, then whatever team plays Boise will be similar.

This might have been a dumb comment. PSU looking very average so far against a good team like they do every time they play a good team.

And literally a second after hitting "post reply" PSU gets a pick 6.
I mean they both have looked crappy so far. SMU self inflicted wounds really the only story line. This absolutely feels like an upper middle tier bowl game and not a game between “championship” caliber teams. I get we in America love the “playoff” format but this really wasn’t needed to decide the best teams every year.

The Jacks and Bison quarterbacks are both awesome. Athletic, good throwers, great leaders and they play to win neither of them slide and the Jack’s guy for sure wants to play in the NFL. Either of them probably could’ve been starters in the Big Ten.

None of those guys are accustomed to playing in frigid weather and frozen turf including PSU. It's usually not that cold even in PA during the regular season.

Which is fine. The crazy thing is people are acting like these games should all go down to the wire. I posted in another thread that Indiana losing by 10 points last night is still a closer game than all of the last 6 national championship games. Three of the six ended as 4+ score games.

Yes, that's exactly right! We had more lopsided games than last night's when only four teams made the playoffs. That was one reason why I was dubious about the expansion of the playoffs. Even when there were only four teams, one or two demonstrated that they were head and shoulders above the others.

Story line is so overrated. The field is hard but it’s not frozen (you can tell by how guys are cutting). Lots of different turf fields have this same firm feel to it. Just gonna hurt a hell of a lot more hitting today.

SMU QB might be a special athlete but he is killing his team with 2 horrible pick 6 throws and a horrible decision on 4th and 1 where he could have just run the ball and extended the drive.

Just horrible decision making on his part....

100% the entire story so far.

I think the first pick was on the running back. He floated out and then quit running when he saw a defender in the area and the qb expected him to keep running. The second one was an awful throw. This is the second SMU game I've watched and he's been terrible in both.

He looks like he can’t wait to get the game over with.

PSU does the one thing you can’t do. Good job Franklin you dumbass

Edit: luckily for Franklin Jennings is still awful

That last pick is the kind you see about 3 times a year, pretty rare for a guy to knock “up” a pass and pick it.

LOL Franklin.

Absolutely horrific decision, then bailed out by yet another pick.

I actually didn't mind the throw on 4th and 1, it was just an awful throw behind the receiver. If he leads him he walks in for a TD and they are up 7-0.

Fair enough but he had the 1st down on the ground if he just keeps on rolling. Get the first down and live to fight another day when you are down that close to the endzone.

Pretty rare you see one guy completely implode and cost you the game but that’s Jennings today. Don’t know how you put him out there in the second half

Or just take an easy TD if you make a routine throw. No guarantee they would have gotten a TD even if he made the 1st down. The defender was also coming in quickly to make the tackle. He would have likely gotten the 1st but I think it would have been close with a good tackle.

Jennings has been awful overall, but when you're an underdog on the road, those are the types of risks and plays you need to make to have a chance to win, especially deep in PSU territory at the beginning of a tie game.

JJ McCarthy single handedly lost the playoff game for Michigan against an inferior TCU a couple years ago. Two pick sixes in that game too I think.
