Other B1G Games Thread

Gophers will hold the #4 seed at the turn (halfway point of the Big Ten season) if they beat Northwestern on Saturday. Raise your hand if before the season you thought we'd be saying that.

Talent-wise it appears there's some separation with Michigan, Sparty, and Iowa at the top, but after that it's looking like a mad scramble for the #4 seed. Ohio State and the Badgers don't exactly have easy schedules remaining ("easy" is relative in the Big Ten as we found out last night), especially the Buckeyes. The Gophers' remaining schedule appears much more "manageable". The question is, will the Gophers cash that in?

It's turning out to be really bizarre. Key is to win all the home games this year and the road game at Purdue is beginning to look really important since right now they are the only non-top 100 RPI team in the Big Ten.

In the end of the year, it will be Michigan, Michigan St, and Iowa all with RPI's between 12-18. Then 8 more Big Ten teams all ranked 50-60. (I kid, but that is what this season is beginning to look like).

The Toilet Center was like a morgue. Went through Madison yesterday on the way to Florida. Stopped for gas at Holiday and told the gal : " Have a Golden Gopher Day"

I listened to a good portion of the second half on local sports radio and the first thing that stuck out to me was how quiet the crowd was. When I initially turned on the game at the beginning of the 2nd half it was so quiet that I assumed the Badgers were up 40 and people had already started to leave because it was such a massive blow out. You could almost hear the ball being dribbled it was so quiet.

I'm beginning to wish we had gotten Northwestern earlier in the year as well. Going to be a very tough game this weekend.

Northwestern looked absolutely atrocious in the non-conference, and I was wondering if Collins even knew what he was doing. The way the Cats are improving, he might end up getting votes for COY. This is shaping up to be one tough game Saturday. Hopefully NU's blown their wad and they'll come back to earth.

As others have pointed out, the Gophers need to apply some serious heat to Northwestern. They're playing without a true PG (Sobolewski is out), so that should play into how the Gophers like to play. I like how the Gophers match up with Northwestern.

It was a glorious night to see OSU and Badgers lose at home! It seems that a lot of road teams are cashing in this year - Cmon gophers do the same!

Illinois and Nebraska are the only Big Ten teams yet to win a conference road game. If the Gophers simply win 2 more road games it will be virtually impossible not to make the NCAA tourney.

EE needs to get out of his funk because he has an exploitable matchup. And we need to get Mo the ball down low and keep him out of foul trouble as well.

Wisconsin has a hell of stretch coming up...

OSU
@Illinois
MSU
Minnesota
@Michigan
@Iowa
Indiana

and then 3 easier ones
@PSU
Purdue
@Nebraska

That's our best win as it stands right now. By the time tournament comes around, they might only look like a top 50 team.

this may not be a popular opinion on here, but speaking for this season, I have to say, Big 12>B1G

Yeah I definitely think the B1G is really down this year. The conference is extremely overrated at the top and slightly underrated at the bottom.

Those two clearly have been the best conferences in 2013-14. An argument could be made either way for #1 and #2. I'd have Pac 12 #3.

And of course Nebraska going to beat Indiana

Is there anything more annoying than watching Tom Crean pace the sideline? I can't even explain it, but the guy just makes me want to punch him in the face every time I see him. He fits every definition of doosh (spelled wrong intentionally to avoid the lame word filter.)

I stopped following it at half-time. Nebraska scored 19 points and appeared to have thudded back to earth. The outscored them 46-28 in the second half. Wow.

More than ever, you MUST hold your home court in this conference. Its simple. Steal one or two on the road and take care of business in your own gym. @Nebraska and @PSU will not be "..easier ones" for Bucky.

Talk about a big game on Saturday for both; OSU @ Wisconsin. Too bad I will be in the Dells watching my daughter perform (gymnast), I would LOVE to see that one!

I'm glad you added the parentheses, otherwise people may have assumed you meant performing at Crusin Chubbies.

Not saying I told you so, but the one thing I said in the preseason predictions thread was that Nebraska was not going to finish last in this league. OK, maybe I am saying I told you so.

Watching Buckeyes-Badgers on ESPN, and funny things:

1. Hearing the Badger fans yelling "Let's Go Bastards".
2. Announcers gabbing as usual, on one OSU offensive rebound, talking head says "2nd chance points like that", and the OSU guy missed the bunny right after the gabber said that.

Watching lady Gophers vs Mich on BTN. check out #22 for Michigan. Really hot.:)

everyone sing with me now, "wisconsin struggling and feels so good"

Andy Katz is a Wisconsin alum. The Field House is Wisconsin's version of the barn.

I was at a family function in Milwaukee back around the new year and heard a little bit of the local sports radio show. A caller commented about how there was a solid chance the Badgers go undefeated in the regular season. Now, I know fans can go a little overboard when things are going very well or bad, but eve the radio guys didn't really say they disagreed with him. No doubt WI was playing well then, but going undefeated is nearly impossible.

It's fun to think about that call and discussion now.
