Other B1G Games Thread

MSU got screwed tonight in Iowa City. With about 9 minutes remaining in a close game, Iowa scored their last FG of the second half. Somehow, the game makes it to OT! That "somehow" was a number of touch fouls on the perimeter called against the Spartans. While the zone vs man defense does account for some of the free throw disparity, Gessell (in particular) was using his hands in late clock situations as much/more than the Spartans defenders on the other end. It was extremely impressive to see MSU win that game down 2 starters and facing that type of free throw disparity.

Interesting to note: If McCaffery didn't have another "Frantrum" due to a missed TRAVEL call, Iowa wins in regulation by two. It was a complete overreaction by McCaffery especially considering his team lived at the free throw line all night.

I don't know, that missed travel call was atrocious. The MSU player walked all the way to the basket from outside the 3 point line and it didn't get called.

Awful call but not worth a technical when his team is basically in control of the game. I thought he would learn a lesson with what happened at Beckyville. Sometimes you need at T but sometimes it destroys you. He's taken two wins from his team this year. He needs to read the situation better and get it under control. Most coaches know how to let their opinion be known without drawing a T. Frannie is just a hot head.

The whole game I thought Iowa was the better team and they still lost. They are good but they don't know how to win yet. Sparty had no business claiming that game, but they did. It's the difference between good and great. They won a game they should not have won.

I get the feeling we may not see Payne again this season, MSU just doesn't want to come out and say it. Without Payne, MSU goes from a national title contender to one that the Sweet 16 would have to be considered a success. Hope he gets healthy because with Michigan's uprising I think now there might be 3 Big Ten teams (if healthy) capable of winning the whole ball of wax. I still like Iowa. Last night hasn't changed that. As Holy Man said, an argument could be made McCaffery has cost his team two wins. How much differently would we be viewing Iowa if they also had wins over Wisconsin and Sparty? They'd be top 7 in the country, at worst.

But ifs and buts candy and nuts. ...

Penn State taking OSU down to the wire. 62-62 with 43 seconds left

Penn State is getting completely jobbed. Can't believe they overturned that call to give OSU the ball, then they miss an easy basket interference call.

PSU with a crazy win in OT. Not sure what Craft was doing dribbling behind his back as time was running out...those last 1.8 seconds on the inbounds seemed to last forever. Anyway, big win for PSU and OSU in freefall mode, which is nice to see (so sick of OSU).

My wife saw something hilarious a few minutes ago on the NW@Wisc broadcast. The broadcast came back to the Kohl Center showing the Wisconsin dance team smiling and waving their pom poms...in the background above their heads is a bright red LED sign with the words "Ho-Chunk" in big yellow letters (sorry, I'm not tech savvy enough with DVR stuff to post it, maybe someone else can?). hahahaha so wrong, but so right.

Charter with no digital sound for BTN. HD sound works fine. weird.

Northwestern is completely incapable of handling the press. I hope that Pitino throws that at them all game on Saturday.

If I didn't know better I would have thought Tubby Smith was coaching the Badgers this year. Elite ranking going into conference play and then the wheels come off. Crazy.

Hope we bring our A-game Saturday.

I can't figure out the Big 10 for anything. Unreal.

Penn State wins at Ohio State and Northwestern wins at Wisconsin in the same night...never thought I'd see the day that something like that happens.

I'm really glad we got our win at Penn State out of the way early. I would've been way more nervous for that game if they had already won in Columbus. Also, I'm a little more nervous for the Northwestern game this weekend.

Or not. PSU and NW win on the road. Who can figure out the B1G.

I'm beginning to wish we had gotten Northwestern earlier in the year as well. Going to be a very tough game this weekend.

What I want to see this year:

1) Gophers make the NCAA Tournament

2) Bo finish outside the top 4 for the first time ever

@BTNStatsGuys: Since #PennState joined the #B1G in 1992-93, Wednesday marked the 1st time they and #Northwestern both won true road games on the same day.

4th place is up for grabs. I'd like our chances if we had Andre.

That was such an Aaron Craft play, not even taking a shot before the buzzer when he had to shoot. Craft has no confidence offensively and is extremely reluctant to shoot, and it hurts the team. He takes 6 shots in 41 minutes and has 8 points against PSU, and gets the game-winner shot right over him in the paint. VERY overrated. Craft is a good fit alongside guys who score a lot of points, a bad fit when a team needs their leader to actually be good at scoring.

But Amir Williams is the worst. That dude dropped a pass right in his hands above the waist and promptly kicked it out of bounds when it would've been a key basket to put them up 3. Instead PSU gets the ball down 1 and hits a game-winner. OSU needs to get Myles Turner in the worst way.

Standings 1-30-14

TEAM CONF OVERALL
Michigan 7-0 15-4
Michigan State 8-1 19-2
Iowa 5-3 16-5
Wisconsin 4-4 17-4
Minnesota 4-4 15-6
Northwestern 4-5 11-11
Indiana 3-4 13-7
Purdue 3-4 13-7
Ohio State 3-5 16-5
Nebraska 2-5 10-9
Illinois 2-6 13-8
Penn State 2-6 11-10

Based on the way Northwestern desperately tried to give that one away, I have to like our chances if we can keep it within 15 going into the last 3 minutes like Wisconsin did.

Shocked at the results tonight, I watched a little of tOSU/PSU and I got the strong feeling that tOSU was going to pull away when I had to leave. Northwestern looked atrocious at home on Saturday, then they go in to Madison and win? This has to be one of the stranger conference seasons ever. Kind of bummed that both of Minnesota's "big" wins look less impressive. On the other hand, if Collins can get these road wins with this Northwestern group, it gives me some hope that Pitino can find a way to get an unexpected road win somewhere.

I am sure the coaches are not saying this (nor should they), but Saturday sure seems like a must win to me. Going to Purdue without Andre Hollins and on a 2 game losing streak to non-Tourney teams would be a bad situation to be in.

Becky has to have the softest interior defense in the conference. They will struggle just to stay .500 in conference. I see them as a 8-11 seed in the tourney. Northwestern really looks impressive defensively. But with their lack of depth and our pressing style of play, this should be an easy win as long as we play mistake free ball. Looking down the road, the Iowa game and @Michigan look like the only scary games from a match up standpoint. 9-9 should be the bottom record and I wouldn't be that surprised with 12-6 at this point.

Sorry I just have to get this off my chest after the Wisconsin game last night:

Hahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaacoughaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!
