Official "Viva Las Vegas!!" Thread - Trip Plans, Ticket Qs, Tailgating, Casino Advice

99.9% sure about 10-12 years ago the law changed and now UNLV is up on the boards.

I bet on UNLV's bball team in March for the conference championship game which was played in Vegas, so I don't believe that law still exists. UNLV lost...

That sounds like good news. Depending on the point spread I can see about $100 for Gophers to win.

Booked flight today! Leave late Wednesday morning, leave for MSP late Friday morning. Back in time to watch local HS team open football season that Friday evening!

Meeting up with group of 4 and staying at Treasure Island. Made first-ever Gophers road trip to USC game last year with one of the three other guys going to Vegas...if this game is half as much fun as that was it will be a successful trip.

Just signed the wife and I up for the Alumni Association tailgate party next to Sam Boyd. Sounds like a good time - hope to see a whole bunch of Gopher fans there !

Geez, how come they increased the price by so much for the tailgate? I think last yr I spent $20/person and now it's up to $50. Wow!

They're trying to up their bankroll for the tables.

Yeah, I was kind of wondering that myself. Plus the tailgate is only for 2 hrs - isn't it normally 3 hrs? Have a feeling there must be a large base fee charged by the Vegas people to have an 'event' there. Nevertheless, we can't wait to get started.

Is the tailgate only open to those who buy tickets through the U? I never saw anything about it. To be honest we are a little late getting organized. But 4 of us bought plane tickets yesterday, so we'll definitely be there!

No, the tailgate is open to anyone with a ticket for it. Buy them through the Alumni Association. $50 in advance and $60 at the door. Another reason the price is a little higher is everything has to be rented and catered. At home many of the supplies are use weekly. Should be fun.

Ahh it's through the AA.. Thanks.

Anyone got any advice on where to stay? Haven't been to Vegas in a few years.

Really depends on how much you want to spend. We're booking at Mirage for a middle range spot for 3 guys. No resort fees, good location, decent rates, decent pools.

We're just a bunch of young guys so cheapness and location are our only real concerns. I'll have to check out the mirage. Thanks.

The Mirage is a great location - centrally located on the strip.

That is the perfect attitude to have, realistically your not out to impress a date on a weekend get-a-way, and how often are going to be in the room anyhow. It's all about cutting costs so a) you have more to gamble with, and b) more to drink with and c) more money to celebrate with after the Gophers win. And that my friends is why I will be staying at the luxurious Circus Circus, home of the free Circus acts performing every hour in the Casino Midway :)

Check out imperial palace, stataspher, Ttropicana, Luxor. If your looking for a no frills less expensive place. Flamingo has one of the better pool areas in Vegas. Caan't go wrong with Mirage & TI.

I go to Vegas on business occasionally and often see really cheap deals at Hooters casino, but since we charge the client for travel, and I have to turn in my receipts, I can just never pull the trigger to stay there. I just can't look this nice woman in H.R. in the eyes and tell her it was because it was a good deal.

Me and Mrs. JoeDirt are booked! Flying out early Wednesday morning and coming back Sunday afternoon. We are staying at TI and look forward to a big Gopher win and having multiple drinks with new Gopher fans and friends!

Our group of 10 decided $50/person was too much for the Alumni Assn tailgate party. Is there anyplace else around the stadium you Gopher fans might be hanging out? We are bringing coolers and stuff to eat.

I talked to one of the big wigs with the goalline club and he was sure they would be having something going on also. Possibly a 'sota social wednesday night and then a meeting site at the stadium, I'm not sure if they will be teaming up with the AA or not. I will certaintly post anything that I hear, and I was told to check the goalline club website for updates. We will not pay 50 bucks either for the AA. Maybe those that choose not to could all get together at the stadium and have our own little party!

Thats the same boat I'm in....I'm loading up a book bag cooler with beer I think and just going to see where the afternoon takes me.

I'd be surprised if GLC has a separate tailgate party than the Alumni Association, given the fact that the GLC website redirects visitors to the Alumni Association website for the tailgate party. Why would they be redirecting if they are planning something? While $50 is a bit high, I'm not traveling that far to quibble over that amount of money. The thought of potentially guzzling beers and feasting in AC comfort amongst people whom I have plenty in common with, is too much to resist.

Anyone get their seat assigned yet?

The gopher website says that they're going to allocate the tickets based on gopher points but we got our seat assignment already. Anybody else get theirs? We have 16 people and we'll be in section 5. I haven't been able to find a map with section 5 on it so I'm not exactly sure where it is. Maybe it's actually 105.

9 guys from our group were at USC last year. We were at the RV lot with a Cruise America RV. We'll be tailgating again this year but no RV this time :( :( :( Hope to see some of you again this year!

That's a "fake" holding number until they are assigned. Yes, they will be assigned by Gopherpoints.

I got my UNLV tickets!!!!!

Single game UNLV football tickets went on sale today, so I stopped off at the UNLV ticket office and purchased my 2 tickets for the game; $40 each on the 50 yard line behind the Minnesota bench (section 107). I was told by the lady behind the glass that tickets in the Minnesota section are end zone through about the 15 yard line and also are $40 each, so 50 yard line seats seemed like the better deal. I can't wait for the game! Minnesota better win big or I will have to eat a lot of crow in front of my co-workers due to my continually excessive praising of the Gophers.

So where is the post game celebration being held? For those not tailgating, anyone else doing any pre-gaming at a bar/casino/strip club?

I think I'm going to hit up Margaritaville for a nice huge Margarita before heading off the strip.

All this talk about Margarita's, strip clubs, and Gopher Football is making my head spin! August 30th can't get here fast enough!

Vegas is like an adults Qwik-E-Mart, everywhere you turn their are machines pre-mixing all kinds of frozen goodies. I'm ready to get drunk in Vegas and witness a beat down on UNLV, I need it, and deserve it for the year I've had. Go Gophers.

I can't wait to meet all of you in Vegas! We should definitely plan pre and post game parties, lets get it done! Maybe we could come up with the transportation issues to and from the game as a group. Were at TI. I can't wait to meet you Youngstown gopher, hope it happens! FYI I have seven season tickets now so if you're ever in the cities this fall......
