Official Selection Sunday Reaction Thread: No NCAA, NIT Bound?

Well, the last time we did the NIT we ended up in the final and the run was a lot of fun.

ESPN 3? I don't Comcast in the Twin Cities offers that. Correct?

As the 1 seed, can we get 2 or 3 home games? Can't remember is it's final 4 or 8 team do to MSG (assuming it's still there)

High Point has two losses to RPI 300+ teams, and five more losses to RPI 200+ teams, yet somehow won the Big South.

oregon is going to beat wisconsin

Have to play American first, but helter skelter teams like Oregon don't usually do well against Wisconsin. If the Badgers get out of Milwaukee the road becomes very much tougher.

Hopefully, Buggs will get more playing time against High Point.

Like most top rated teams, I wouldn't be surprised if they lose in the 2nd round. But I hate to say it, I wouldn't be surprised if they're in the F4 or even further.

Sconny gets to the sweet 16 but is eliminated by Creighton...

I'm curious how many teams with a higher RPI than us were left out, and how many teams with a lower RPI got in on an at-large bid.

I find it funny how MN hasn't received any real attention for missing out on the dance. ESPN today states losers of the NCAA tournament are:

SMU: The Mustangs ended the season with three straight losses, the last one to lowly Houston. That combined with a weaker showing in nonconference play bounced the upstart Mustangs.

Green Bay/St. John's/Southern Miss: The Horizon League champs lost to Milwaukee and made a strong case to be included but didn't have the résumé. Public campaigns from Southern Miss coach Donnie Tyndall and St. John's coach Steve Lavin failed to make a difference.

Not a word on the Gophers

Can someone explain to me why so many people are surprised by BYU as a 10 seed? They have an RPI of 30 and a SOS of 25. This isn't a Southern Miss situation where they built a high RPI on the foundation of a weak schedule.

4 losses to top 100+ RPI teams.

When I look at their overall resume, it hard to come away impressed. http://www.rpiforecast.com/teams/BYU.html

I'm not saying they set the world on fire, but their résumé looks pretty solid to me for a bubble team. One important factor that I think a lot of people are overlooking is that they only played 14 home games this year. We all know how difficult it is to win at road/neutral sites, and they played 19 road/neutral games this year. They had 8 wins against top 100 opponents, and 5 of those were road/neutral. Many here were holding out hope for the Gophers to be selected, but BYU's résumé is far better than the Gophers. The committee has to fill out a 68-team bracket - who got left out that should have been selected over BYU?

I believe we were the 3rd or 4th highest RPI team left out and it's like we weren't even in the discussion. I almost feel like even if we'd beaten Wisconsin we'd be sitting here fuming with a 40 RPI while Iowa is dancing.

3 of the those top 100 wins were against San Francisco and 2 against St. Mary's. Looking through the schedules of those two teams, it's evident that some if these RPI numbers are nothing but smoke and mirrors.

I ask again - who would you have put in over them? It's a zero-sum game; if they're out, someone else has to be in. Who?

Why do I get the same feeling?

It's clear the committee values good/great road or neutral wins. The gophers were definitely lacking in this area. Even if we just beat MSU in OT, that would've made all the difference.
