***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA VS SOUTH DAKOTA STATE IN-GAME THREAD***

They looks good to me. They've had an incredible shooting night, but seem solid. They're re picked to win their conference.

There's no Nate Wolters on this SDSU team, but that might not be a bad thing.

So not only do we lose two games in a row to South Dakota schools, but our next game is going to be played in Sioux Falls.

You constantly respond this way whenever someone points out that the refs are bad.

The refs have no duty to Minnesota fans. Do you understand that?

The coach and team have duties to Minnesota fans. If you want to get mad at someone, get mad at them. Don't get mad at the refs. Don't get mad at the opponent. They're doing their jobs tonight. Coach Pitino and his Gophers aren't. Got it?

If this was a close game, maybe I'd look at the refs, but it isn't. End of story.

Lineup closing this game should be the new starters. Mason, Dorsey, Konate, Murphy, and McBrayer.

They at least play with hustle and can gain experience.

Valuable minutes for the freshmen tonight.

I'm hoping when we lose more games like this that coach continues to go with the youngsters and gets them lots of minutes together. No need for MOrris and King to play when we're getting our asses kicked in big 10 play.

Rutgers just announced a new school motto: Thank god for Minnesota

Lighten up BuyAVowel. The refs have a duty to fairness. The fans have a right to complain if they don't feel that the refs aren't fair. You don't have a right to be a condescending pr*ck.

Pretty shocking result. SDSU was without a starting guard and Minnesota should have been extra motivated after their pathetic performance on Saturday.

A few things are very apparent to me.

1. Pitino has been unable to get this group to consistently apply even basic defensive concepts (as a team) or fundamentals (as individuals)
2. Their are a number of very low BBIQ players on this team, and nobody with a high BBIQ (Austin Hollins, Dusty Rychart, Brent Lawson, etc, etc)
3. This team as a whole is neither tough nor physical which is always a problem, but it's an enormous one when you don't have knockdown shooters

Are you implying the officials have no responsibility to call a good game as long as one team is playing much better than the other? As GII mentioned, no one is saying the refs cost us the game. It is possible to think both the team AND the officials performed poorly. Personally I didn't think it was a terribly officiated game, though that charge call on McBrayer seemed week, and I feel like there was another call or two I disagreed with.

Why did you only quote that one part? You just ignored the rest of my post. I am mad at the coaches and the team. I like college basketball and am not happy how games are officiated. I can be mad at the refs too if I want. If you don't like it, don't read the posts.

You act like we're the only fan base in the world that attacks refs/officials, and therefore we are all losers.

I would also argue that at times tonight the refs did not do their job. Got it?

To summarize (maybe I'll capitalize it for you so you don't miss it this time): THE GOPHERS SUCKED TONIGHT AND DESERVE A TON OF CRITICISM. IN NO WAY DID THE REFS AFFECT THE OUTCOME OF THE GAME. HOWEVER, I BELIEVE THERE WERE SEVERAL VERY BAD OFFENSIVE CHARGING CALLS IN THE GAME. I LOVE COLLEGE BASKETBALL AND I HATE HOW REFS CALL THESE TYPE OF PLAYS. I THINK IT IS A REAL PROBLEM. ONCE AGAIN, I AM NOT BLAMING THEM FOR THE LOSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was thinking in the first half how great it would be to have Austin Hollins on this team.

Why did you completely ignore the rest of his well thought out post?

All individual play on offense. No effort on defense. Got nothing from our upperclassmen. Did Buggs get hurt? We're not very good but when you can't get anything out of your supposed leaders, this is what we'll see.

I'm not sure what to think of Pitino. I wasn't expecting a lot of wins this season but this is very discouraging.

Disappointed with the result and the effort to start the game. When your 3 upperclassmen that are supposed to be leaders of this team all come out lackadaisical and with no energy this is the result we get. Buggs was the one that annoyed me the most as he put in no effort/hustle at all tonight and was deservedly benched. Morris didn't take bad shots but its just not falling for him right now. Teams are keying on King and he is having a tougher time getting open because of it but I don't think we saw a great effort from him tonight either. The freshmen had some bright spots tonight and I'd like to see more of Gilbert just to see where he fits on this team going forward and into next season. I know some get mad about this kind of thing but it sure looks like there are some guys that aren't gonna contribute going forward and we would probably be better off with them transferring. I didn't want to think about it this way but starting to have to after the last 2 losses this season is about seeing how the freshmen/Mason and maybe Konate can grow and looking forward to the 2 transfers Coffey, Curry and Hurt in 2016.

Because when you see the type of performance you saw tonight by the home team, the refs are the least of our problems. They're practically irrelevant.

Agreed. I do think the freshman / sophomore lineup picked up the energy which was great to see. Had at least one possession with gorgeous ball movement that resulted in a Murphy put back and executed the press at least decently.

Morris is just bad and King is just too slow lately and it is really showing through. And when he's not scoring, it's tough to justify him playing. Buggs has looked better this year, but still gets lost on D way too often.

It was amazing to see how few Gophers crashed the offensive boards. They either stood and watched the shots or peeled back on the release. It's also amazing how on defense so few of them rotated out and over to the jump shooters as the ball moved.

Or maybe it's not amazing. I suppose there's always the possibility that the Minnesota players just aren't very talented.

When i voiced my concern about joey being our best shooter most people thought i was on something. This is exactly why i was concerned.

Whining about refs when you get blown out by a mid-major (albeit a good one) on your home court is truly pathetic. But, if you don't mind being pathetic, by all means carry on.

For what it's worth, Ryan James mentioned on Twitter that Buggs made like 6 mistakes in a row before Pitino sat him down. I only saw the second half, and I don't believe Buggs was ever in the game...so I'd imagine Ryan was pretty accurate in his view of Buggs play.

Seems like horrible block/charge calls have consistently gone against us so far this season. The refs didn't make the difference in us winning or losing but I agree with you they deserve the criticism when they are horrible as well.
