You are right about there being some positives this season. I just remember these non conference games being blowouts, and the difference between the athletes on the floor was large.
 

Well, a lot of guys around here kept telling me that Pitino would bring a fast paced style of basketball to Minnesota and they were right. SDSU is already at 45 by halftime. Oh, wait, in fairness, they never promised a fast paced style of winning basketball.
 




Notice how the SDSU guys barely dribble but move and pass constantly. Meanwhile, our guys keep trying to bust a one-on-one dribble move through traffic except for the ones who are trying to drive full court past the whole SDSU team.

It's all individual effort on offense. No team play at all.

Serious question. If we had no coaches, zero, and we told these same players to go play free style vs SDSU, would the game be closer at this point?

The D around these parts has been pathetic for some time, including under Tubby. There is no semblance of straight-up team D, rather guys chasing the ball around like it's a magnet. The fundamentals of the scheme and the execution are horrible, there is always an offensive opponent wide open.

Fast-paced basketball only works when it's under control.

Yes, SDSU put on a clinic for it in the first half. My point always was "What makes people think that Pitino's teams can execute this style better than their opponents?"
 

Charges are called about five times more than they should be. I hate the way they call it so much. That one on McBryer was a joke.

That, and replacement candidates are going to be wary if you fired your previous coach after 3 seasons or less, even when his recruiting was on an upward swing.
 


We seem to depend too much on help defense. We can't stay in front of our man, forcing help on every play. That leaves shooters open on the perimeter.

And the announcer doesn't have a clue on the Morris one. Says it was no doubt a charge even though the defender was leaning into the offensive player.
 

We suck tonight, but these refs suck worse. Some TERRIBLE calls.

Second straight game against the Summit League where we actively have calls going against us. It's like we're playing Indiana, not F'n South Dakota State.
