***OFFICIAL MINNESOTA AT IOWA IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

Still not sure how a few of those free throws went in because they were ugly.....but style points don't matter if the shots go in.

Iowa's strategy of hacking Femi and sending him to the line was a sound one in theory but credit to him for finding a way to hit 7-11 and drill some key ones down the stretch to help seal the victory.
I think they fouled him too much and he got in a rhythm.

No need, too!

Fran needs to go.

Ben needs to go.
I can see you're not an analytics nerd. Thought it might be fun for one of those guys to do a deep dive into the numbers to determine which one should be let go "First". Be sure to show your work kids! :)

Alright all you analytic nerds. Any of you have the time to tally up and compare all the Anti-coach posts on the Iowa board as compared to the Minnesota board since the first of the year? Thinking that the coach with the most negative posts should be the first one fired, right? Maybe break it down to categories like "In Game Coaching", "Bad Recruiter", "Can't Build a Team", "Awful Sideline Demeanor", "Player Development". Tally up the number of posts in each, rate them in order of importance and come up with a "First One Fired" prediction.

Just an idea for those who love to do the deep dive into the numbers to find answers. :)
Pretty sure I'm just joking!
For as frustrated as their fans might be gotta think Johnson would still win this one as we are really just experiencing a short break from the overwhelming negativity that has consumed this board for the majority of Johnson's run here. It will be back in full force as soon as the team loses again.

Feels like Fran may be on his way out in Iowa.....sad part is that right now we would kill for a run like the one he had there.

I'm not going to go through all 10 pages of this thread so apologies if this is rehashed, but man it seemed like a morgue in terms of atmosphere at Carver-Hawkeye Arena last night.

Even during their late run it seemed like far from a frenzy, at least on TV anyway. Maybe several in the crowd left to beat the Iowa City traffic.

Cold weather might have kept some people away and the cold shooting never gave them a reason to get excited and into the game.

We did a nice job of controlling the pace of the game and keeping them from going on long runs until the late surge where they cut the deficit to 3. Kept the home crowd out of the game.

Shoot to get hot, shoot to stay hot
I've literally asked the question about when a shooter should not shoot to so many coaches, announcers, and players and the answer is always--"Never". If that's your role, you have a wide open look and feel in rhythm, don't hesitate, take the shot. Doesn't matter if you're 6 for 7 or 1 for 7, if it feels like a good shot, always believe it's going in. Doubt leads to failure.

The one difference last night was that he was in a perfect position to pass on the shot and work the clock and shorten the game.

But he is a shooter and he had a wide open look so I get why he took the shot. Had he made it, it was probably game over.

Fran has an over .500 Big Ten record and is in his 15th season.

100% accurate, I'd kill for a run like that over the next 15 years.

We've had some really bad crowds the past couple of seasons, but that Iowa crowd (for a conference game, against a rival) was PATHETIC last night.

7 NCAA tournament appearances in that time as well. The one thing they have failed to do however is go on a long tournament run as in most of those they were out in the first or second round.

A W is a good W especially on the road, so have to give credit. We were just lucky Iowa shot 14% from 3 PT line and 66% from FT. Some of it was good D, but they did have some wide looks that just wouldn't drop. For once it was the other team colder on the shooting.
I didn’t see the game but that’s what I was afraid of. I’m taking the win but there really is a difference between beating a team than just being fortunate enough to catch them on an off night. Sounds like Iowas best player was coming back after injury.

You say so now, but keep this post for posterity. You and I will both be after a coach who hasn’t “over the hump” in five years or so. It’s a requirement of being a fan to move the goalposts. 😂

Fixed it.🤠

No worse empty arena in the country than Carver Hawkeye. Minnesota fans are bad front runners but Iowa hoops gives us a run for our money.

Could not disagree with this line of thinking more. Every team deals with injuries and off nights.

Coaches talk all the time about how winning is hard (winning on the road in the Big Ten is really hard)......no reason to try and come up with reasons to downplay the quality of the win because the other team had an off night shooting.

He's consistent and competitive. 3 Conference seasons under .500 in 15 seasons and 2 were his first two seasons. Making the NCAA tournament half the time.

They've had more than one off-night recently. Their "injured" player didn't miss a game (he was taken out of the last game early but I don't think he would have made a difference in the final outcome). He didn't have a great night last night but he's had worse nights this season. He's good but streaky.

I'm not sure why you seem to feel a need to minimize accomplishments by this team.

Odukale takes a lot of shit on this board, but he was awesome tonight on both sides of the court. He’s by far the most well rounded athlete on the team. He absolutely stuffed the stat sheet tonight including the wild circus at the FT line.

Agreed. I've been a fan for most of the season. He might be the best athlete on the team, has a versatile skill set, and, in my mind, probably is the second most indispensable player on the team. If he could shoot like Garcia, he'd be really good.

No question but that doesn't mean fans will appreciate that. Fans (at least most of them) almost always want more and the better a team is the more they expect continued comparable or better success. Iowa fans forgot how bad they were under Lickliter a long time ago.

I wasn't on this board when Tubby was coach. Clearly he was this program's most successful basketball coach this century (never had a losing season in 6 years and had a postseason in five of those years) but I'm guessing that people here were bitching about him all of the time in his latter years.

Femi’s the kind of guy you’d love to have on your pick up team; plays both end of the floor and doesn’t need to score a ton to impact the game.

Well, I guess this means I will be supporting Ben the rest of the way. I definitely have asked for his head on other platforms earlier this year, but I changed my mind. The more I look at it, there is no reason to move away from him.

As long as you have enough offense around him he is an extremely valuable piece. Guys like him don't get the attention/credit they deserve for their willingness to do all the little things that many players can't or won't.

As long as you mean no reason to move away from him in season I agree. These wins don't change anything in terms of his overall job status at this point but nice to have some positivity around for a few days.

No offense to your daughter but no one arriving from Tucson asks for authentic Mexican in MN. Why? Because it doesn’t exist in MN. Wait, you took her to Chi Chi’s? 😂 Mexican food goes straight downhill as you move across the country west to east.
