***OFFICIAL GOPHERS AT WAKE FOREST IN-GAME THREAD!!!***

It's imperative for Josh Martin and buggs have to become serviceable for 10 to 15 minutes per game during the the rest of the non con. No way we survive that thin in both the front and back court. Buggs needs to give us 10 minutes at the 3 and 5 minutes at the 4 while Martin 10 minutes at the 4.

I guess I don't need to mention how ****ing horrible Knight was.............It's not that difficult - show the game from midcourt(and all live action) and provide info about the game, not how smart you think you are. Never mentioned who fouls were on, how many fouls the player had, how many team fouls, what half of the violations were. Totally pathetic. Plus he's mumbling below the too loud crowd noise so we can barely hear, even if he was saying something useful.

The ball fake narration was very engrossing--even after the 8th or 9th time. Talk about mailing it in, and I'm pretty sure I heard kissing noises from his sidekick.

Women will win more games than the men. Boys, this is a bad basketball team. We may not make it back to the NIT.

There were about 15 students in the student section and only 4 of them stood and yelled or cheered during the game, but at one point they started a "Rachel's better" chant when a
Andre was shooting free throws and he gave them a little smile after making both, and then hit a three so my buddy and I went back at them with "Andres better" chant and their only response was to flip us off. I went from being impressed that they did their research to better heckle the Gophers to being unimpressed with their lack of imagination.

This is NOT a bad basketball team. This is almost the exact same team as last year, with a little bit more experience from the majority of our minutes.

EE is not as bad as you all think he is. We saw flashes today of when his effort level is high he is very effective and a menace on the defensive end. His attitude just has to change, and it will.

Mo is not as bad as you all think he is. He is trying to be the guy we all think he can be, rather than being who he is, which is a very effective low post threat that should get a LOW POST touch every other possession at least. If he learn to pass out of double teams and not crab dribble through triple teams, which is a no brainer, he'll be back. His issues are mental.

Andre is having some nasty turnover issues. Some are lamenting at him not being as explosive as his sophomore year, I don't remember him ever being explosive or able to get past people. Hes a jump shooter and he gets to the foul line. Offensively he has been fine from a scoring standpoint, he just has to clean up the turnovers a little bit, as he's always been a TO machine due to his below average dribbling skills for an alleged combo guard. Easily fixed.

DeAndre is turning the corner, and has some serious confidence issues when he gets down. He's going to be a rollercoaster and is likely trying to be too much. Once Pitino gets it in his head that he's an elite level PG by being conservative he'll be fine. Score 10pts per game and give us a 5+ assists and he's money

Joey King has been phenomneal and will continue to be this year. The hatred for Joey King on this board is unfounded and he's been our most consistent effort giver and is one of our leading scorers. Hes doing more on the rebounding end than last year which is positive, but we need more in that department. Good thing is, the guy that's likely going to play the most minutes is doing the best. If that continues we will be fine there.

Mason has been a huge upgrade over the 3 reserve guards we had last year. The rotation is very tight between the 1/2/3 but I like all three of our options for the 1 and 2

Morris is a shot selection problem. He will be an elite defender in our press and a liability against bigger 3s. Going to struggle heavily against the slow down style teams and be a weapon against the run n gun teams or games where we dictate pace. He's going to be what he is I fear.

If Martin, Buggs and Konate can add any sort of value to their game in the next month, we will be fine. If they don't we are going to be very short handed and will struggle a bit.

But this is not a bad team.

Nice summary Sota.

Two negatives I might add:
The loss of McNeil hurts the depth and rotation.
I expected more from Martin this year, also affects depth and rotation.

You know what though, the more I look at major program box scores, and maybe its an anomaly or its the teams I'm picking. But there aren't a lot of teams that have 4 bench players logging 10+ minutes. Louisville plays 6 guys essentially.

If we can NOT FOUL we could play 4 guys 30+ minutes in major games. And I think that's what the game plan will be.

I think you may have been incorrect in this particular case Minnesconsin fan! Rachel's still substantially better within the women's game. Hope you enjoyed Dre's big performance last night!

Great review winasota. Wake Forrest is a bad team but we come away with more positives than negatives.
Better than expected: joey king, Mason.
Struggling compared to last year: both Dre's still, EE.
Same as last year: Mo

Turnovers are a big problem, free throws except last night are a big problem as well.
Have done fine rebounding but we will see with such a short and skinny lineup. We are also fouling machines.

What happens during the big ten when the pace slows?

Exactly right. I would also say poor shot selection, mostly on the part of Morris and Hollins. We're a very solid team when we move the ball around quickly and don't settle for stupid passes/shots and commit worthless fouls.

Fouling, interior defense and turnovers are going to haunt us all year. Wake Forest is terrible, but at least Hollins had a nice game, and any road win over an ACC team is good. Gophers have a lot to work on this month in preparation for the B1G schedule.

I don't know if you had any credibility on here prior to this post, but you certainly don't have any now. You've made it pretty clear you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

I don't think Joey's that bad in that department--certainly not like other key players on the team. At least his turnovers are often while trying to make a good pass rather than carelessly dribbling or passing the ball to the other team. And his fouls are at least usually because he's trying to take a charge or he's been beat--not because he's getting lazy or making a bonehead play. He needs to pick his times better on charges, but I'd rather have fouls come from that. Usually the guy is going to score anyway.

Morris and King, same up and down issue. Turnovers, and fouling...

I agree, but in an ideal world, I think Coach Pitino would like to play more players and really 'turn up the heat' on defense.

In the end, you play with the hand you're dealt.

Next year ;)

Or the year after......

Or when we get Shaka!

Just wondering but why don't we run Andre off the shooter similar to how Duke did with Redick? The dude is a great shooter when he gets clean looks. Why we don't work him off the ball with screens is beyond me

The Wake students didn't specify parameters to their chant. Straight up, in a game of one on one, Dre is better. Our dance team is substantially better, our mascot more involved and entertaining. And there was room for three times more people in the lower bowl and the upper deck was almost empty. A more modern facility than the Barn but nowhere near the atmosphere. I took a good shot to the ribs from my wife when I tried to get the Demon Deacon to spin his head. Great trip though. I highly recommend taking a road trip sometime. I might try to start a "Who hates Iowa" chant tonight at the game at UNC. Then hit a Chapel Hill bar and be an anti-DukieDukie

Now that is an unusual accusation on GH.

Our guys have been sucking wind. I know Pitino would love to play them less minutes if the bench could play better.
