Love that he’s going to bring people with him.
“The more guys I can help recruit to come with me, we’ll build something. I can promise you that. We’re going to have the No. 1 recruiting class in Minnesota history.”
With Athan and Steven already acting like leaders, the next few months look interesting!!!!!!!

These two seem to be very connected to some other guys we are after as well. Definitely can't hurt when top recruits in your class are actively out there trying to get others on board.

Back in 2016, CC was huge in helping get and keep that class together.

The 2020 recruiting class was a good one.

The 2021 recruiting class is looking like it will be a breakaway class.

This is the type of recruiting PJ Fleck said he will deliver on his first official presser as the Gophers football coach.

He is looking prophetic.

How many do we expect to sign for the '21 class? Remember hearing that it might not be the full 25 for this class.

Off to a great start it looks like. Need AK, Ortiz & co. to keep fanning the flames now. Leaders are evident early.

If it's going to go like this .... maybe they need to think about "making room" for the full 25, if you catch my drift.

I'm pretty sure I can find a few scholarship guys on the roster who are going into their third calendar year, even fourth calendar year, with the program, and haven't contributed much on the field (outside special teams maybe).

Did they ever finish this "project" for the '20 class? I don't remember how many slots needed to be created and if it was ever completed?

I noticed Clint Brewter gave a crystal ball for Junior Alexander to Washington. Didn't know he was with 247.

($) Article from Burns.

I don’t know much about him personally and haven’t seen him play, but I live 45 minutes from Moultrie and for those that don’t know, it is one of the elite programs in the state of Georgia.

Does someone (not me) want to keep track of how many people we are seriously in on that we don't get? I think that would be interesting data along with knowing things like the average ranking of the guys we get.

I think it would be a tough one to figure out. Wouldn't doubt Fleck has offers galore out there and working them all. Taking the first ones first that commit to the boat. Let's face it there are a lot of football players across the nation.

True. Maybe ones we fall into the "top X" (3, 5, etc.) instead.

It'll be remarkable if some random kid from Arizona leads others to this program and creates a second "Empire Class"

I think with Ortiz Jr on board, and Athan...the class has a guy on each side of the ball others will follow. Helps to have those guys, especially early-ish in the process

What are we calling an empire class now? I expect classes in the 25-35 range will start becoming pretty normal if they have another nice year.

The 2016 class called themselves the Empire Class with Coughlin serving as a de facto recruiter -- and they helped to build this program. I think that this class with Athan and Ortiz seeming to fill the roles of recruiter could land highly ranked recruits and help to take this program to new heights

And that was before cv19. In this environment now, he probably is going to get a lot of family pressure to stay home in Seattle.

Minnesota has the lowest CV19 infection rate among the 50 States. Washington, especially the northern suburbs of Seattle, was an early CV19 hotspot. Maybe Alexander will get some pressure from family to move out of Seattle to a safer place. Equally plausible in the mere speculation department.

Mere speculation, sure. But a valid point.

Also of note is that WA has one of the best responses of the hard hit states, due to its reaction and early social distancing policies.
