Obviously what I'm about to say is not a great way to look at it either .... but, if you divide 22 starters by 5 classes, that means each class just needs to produce 4-5 "star players" per class. Of course that would be 4-5 true freshman starting every year. So 5-6 "star players" per class, with no true freshman ever playing and the 22 starters being spread out over the RS fresh - RS senior classes.
But of course, we know that modern teams rotate players and play multiple "starting" personnels on offense and defense, so there really isn't such a thing as only needing the starting 22 anymore.
