This guy would look elite in a Gopher uniform!

A FRESHMAN! Wow!

Yesterday was a great day to have recruits in. A helmet school blowout!

247: Hawkeyes, Gophers host junior DL Raphael Orubo

Woodbury (Minn.) defensive lineman Raphael Orubo is a 6-foot-3, 260-pound junior prospect who is beginning to hear from Big Ten programs.

On Saturday, he visited Iowa, a school which is looking to evaluate him further.

"I really enjoyed my Iowa visit this weekend," he said. "The coaching staff was very welcoming. They said that they’ll come up to Woodbury when our offseason workout starts, and they’ll be in touch."

The Minnesota Golden Gophers have also had Orubo up. They currently have a Woodbury alum on their roster in tight end turned offensive lineman Nathan Bursch.

"When I went up to Minnesota last week, I didn’t really get to speak to any of the coaches one-on-one, but I really like P.J. Fleck’s energy, and how the team is coming together under him."

Must be a late bloomer with nice size. he is one to haunt us if he goes to Iowa.

Anybody know why this kid has zero offers? Seems strange for a kid that rushed for over 200 yards, 5 touchdowns in the state championship game.

Part of our problem in the State is we may overlook players from small schools or players outside of the Twin Cities Metro area. Some of them probably don't go to the Gopher's camp. It is a big loss when we have a late bloomer or a player that did not have strength & conditioning programs like in bigger schools. When these kids go to NDSU, Wisconsin, etc... and then develop into great players.

I have no idea if he's been to camps or not but that's his ticket. The reality is that as a kid from outside a metro area in Minnesota or elsewhere in the midwest, that's how coaches from power conference schools see you and judge you against other D1 talent.

Personally, I think he's a good player and he'll for sure be a PWO kid if not a full scholarship but him playing against a ton of kids who won't sniff college football in the state championship game and playing well against them doesn't mean anything in his recruitment.

Why is this in 2019 thread versus 2018?

He’s a junior. I heard he has at minimum a PWO spot, but that was just a rumor. Possibly prefers another sport?
Junior or senior, I was impressed with his runs in the prep bowl? Do not remember. Have to admit ELk River did not have much of a defwnse, especially up front.

Take this for what it is worth - Williamson has been talking to MN a lot, and vice versa, according to a pretty well connected person I know.

I agree he needs to camp at Minnesota and Elk River is a far cry from the Big Ten. However, I thought his highlights showed impressive speed, vision, and toughness. Surprised if we're not kicking the tires.

The key is getting the kids from out state to camp with the Gophers. Some of these kids for one reason or another who cannot make the Gopher's camps we may lose to NDSU and others where they become stars and into the NFL.

For some, you cannot miss. I bet when the Gopher coaches saw Logan Richter for the first time, their jaws dropped.

Pretty much. They offered him on the spot.
