Amani Hooker has a 92 rating, ranked #3 player in MN and #247 in the nation by 247 sports... Did he have a huge senior season? He wasn't ranked anywhere near that high in the preseason rankings.

Yes, he did everything for Park Center.

He's rated pretty low for the interest he is getting. Wonder if he had a breakout senior season or something.

I think there is this weird middle gap with a pretty wide swath between 3* and 4* stars out there, and some 3 are better than 4 but the data / rankings just doesn't get updated / show it.

It is pretty common to see even see 3* guys getting big pushes from top programs.

A breakout season may be it.

The star system is flawed :banghead::banghead:

How else can someone explain 4-star recruits going to Iowa St. and 2-star recruits who have offers from Clemson and half the SEC.

Yeah, I just noticed he was a very low 3 star guy 247 composite ranking. Not a big deal, just was surprised.

The fault is not in our stars, but in ourselves...

If you shoot for a star and miss, you will land among many more stars!

Trystan Carillo is not coming. He re-affirmed his original commitment to Mizzou yesterday.

I wonder if this will have an effect on Chase Allen.

Go with 247. They seem to do a better job on rating recruits.

Overall Rivals does a better job, although they are all a little shaky. I don't know what has been going on with 247 in recent years. Some real head-scratching, unprofessional stuff like rating Snelson a 79 after he had been to many camps, all-star, etc etc.

247 doesn't seem to do a good job on lesser known recruits. Five minutes of searching gave me the following ratings on some that turned out to be pretty good Gophers:

247 low 3 star is 80
Rivals low 3 is 5.5

C. Thompson
247: 70 2 star
Rivals. 5.2 2 star

Brock Vereen
247: no rating
Rivals: 5.6 3 star

D. Travis
247: 70 2 star
Rivals: 5.5 3 star

S. Richardson
247: 80 3 star
Rivals: 5.5 3 star

David Cobb
247: 80 3 star
Rivals. 5.5 3 star

Eric Murray
247: 76 2 star
Rivals: 5.4 2 star

BBC
247: 76 2 star
Rivals: 5.5 3 star

Shannon Brooks
247: 84 3 star (95th RB)
Rivals: 5.6 (52nd RB)

247 did have other lesser known recruits like Myrick, Maxx Williams, Damien Wilson, Rodney Smith, Leidner rated a little higher than Rivals, so they aren't a complete disaster but on balance I trust the Rivals evaluators a little more. They seem to be more consistent.

They do about as good as NFL GM's and Mel Kiper.

Lots of the 247 guys have Allen going to Iowa State.

Allen who visited Minnesota on December 4 appears to be deciding between Michigan, Nebraska, and Iowa State tomorrow.

We can sure use him, but if Noah Fant decides to flip to Mn to play TE that will be great.
