Are there any issues with Zach Johnson's info? I get the impression on Twitter sometimes that the other recruiting guys aren't find of him, or that he takes other's inside info and passes it on as his own. Any truth to this?

I get the same impression. He seems to treat it like he's a coach commenting on Golden Tickets. Leave if vague enough to not get in trouble.

Not that it really matters, but CF isn't his main position in high school. Pitching is.

Perhaps it's a hint as to his college position though. Guessing he got this info from the baseball staff.
I am sure he plays CF with his speed on days he's not pitching

I like Zach. He was the first on the "Seth Green is a done deal". Some on here don't like him tho.

It's not so he doesn't get in trouble, but so that people still have a reason to click his links and pay for a Rivals subscription. If you give all the info in the tweet, there's no reason for people to pay.

Well one of the mystery kids has decided not to come because word got back to the school he's committed to. So can see why the other writers (and likely the Gopher staff) we're pissed he let it out.

If that's the case, he doesn't sound like the "we want guys that want to be here" type anyway. Big deal.

Wrong! He didn't want his scholarship pulled because he visited here. It is too bad that G.I. couldn't keep a secret like Ryan Burns does.

Who is the mysterious kid, who cancelled his visit?

+1

Wanting to compare without having your offer pulled seems like something that would be very important to an individual...

Actually interfering with Minnesota's recruiting should not be in a writer's job description!!!! :banghead:

I can appreciate that these kids are under a lot of pressure from schools (and families) to commit and guarantee a scholarship, but if you're not 100% sure - then don't give that verbal commitment. It's a vicious circle - the more kids who de-commit and flip, the more schools will try to get kids to de-commit and flip. there really need to be an early signing day - or maybe set a "dead zone" for the last two weeks before signing day with no OV's allowed so schools won't put on this last-minute rush to try and talk kids into flipping.

My thoughts...
... there shouldn't be any signing date. Instead a kid should be able to sign anytime during their senior year, with a one-week "I can get out of it if I want to" clause. So if you go visit a campus and like it, you can sign that day. If within a week you don't change your mind, then it's binding. That way the school can't drag along a recruit right up until the last week and say "sorry, we found someone else we like better"; and the recruit also can't play the game of leaving the school deciding whether they're actually coming or not. The one-week clause is to give students a chance to think about it without the pressure of an on-campus visit to make them sign.

I think it's a great idea, but there is a much smaller pool of those that could sign a binding contract (under 18), so that might complicate things a little.

So who is the mystery recruit? Nobody wants to give it up? It couldn't be Chase Pine? He committed to Pitt in June and took a visit to Iowa State in December. Why would visting us be any different?

I thought he was at Maryland this weekend.

Personally, I don't know who the mystery recruits are, but pretty sure it isn't Pine. He closed down recruiting and cancelled all visits after his official to Pitt this past weekend (or maybe two ago. Don't remember). Doubt it was him as he sounded nearly 100% solid after that.

Crazier things have happened though.

I think it might be Noah fant idk

Recruiting is picking up for DeMarcus Williams. He's set for OV to Minnesota next weekend.

Stephen Moye? His last 3 follows on Twitter are MN football people.

The local media would not purposefully harm the program, and when they released the information, they said they had permission to do so. Let's keep the focus of the discussion on 2016 recruiting.

Zach Johnson tweeted one mystery recruit is here the other due tomorrow.

Fant is supposed to be on an OV at Iowa this weekend and here next weekend. Could be him but I doubt it.

Recruits that have had Gopher interest in the past, play defense, and are currently committed to Power 5 schools include Tobias Gilliam, Chase Pine, Cedrick Lattimore, and Stephen Moye. Those 4 are the most likely imo.
