Official 2015 Recruiting Updates Thread: Links, Tweets, Videos, Stories, Rumors, etc.

Having played in the conference I will say there are a whole lot of run based teams and not many if any teams who want to throw the ball more than 5-10 times a game or unless they absolutely have to.

In the late 90's we stole a running style/formation from Blackduck as a change of pace to our typical running style.

Agree with you Jaymil. Boyle was the Gatorade Player of the Year in Iowa this year. Boyle was excited about the U after Junior Day and said the coaches told the QB's that they'd evaluate and take one QB in the class. Boyle said he hoped he'd get the offer and was excited about his discussion with the coaches about being a Jordan Lynch-type QB... sounded like he'd jump on the scholarship if offered.

I like the look of this kid. Very similar to the highlights I saw (and liked) of Krizancic. More quick than fast. Accurate arm. 6'2, 205 so not massive but certainly not small. Seems like he played against the biggest schools in the state. Iowa already has a verbal from a top QB from the Chicago burbs, Benneventi, and from all I've read they're only taking one QB. Sounds like the three biggest schools taking a serious look at him are the Gophers, Iowa State, and Kansas.

I like how Malstrom attacks the ball carriers on defense and drives his blocks.

This Malmstrom has a little flash to him but it is tough to tell if he is just physically superior athlete that has maxed out his size(not saying so but it will be tough to tell because of competition), to a bunch of small guys though without seeing him in person or competing against a bigger program like Detroit Lakes. He really drives people off the football on offense and attacks on defense, physical agressive football player, wrestler mentality in attack mode and my type of player. Frazee must be that green team I have seen on state wrestling tournament highlights, they kick a lot of butt and win a lot, now I can place where it is.

I like how he Malmstrom plays through the man and tackles with good form, he obviously gets a lot of tackles in a run heavy pass less conference. He looks like he is tough and would not be intimidated going up against the Big suburban high school guy's and larger city schools in the Twins cities in a camp format, bet he would even be one of the leaders in the drills.
Is Malmstrom more of a wrestler looking for a D1 wrestling scholarship guy, or is he strictly looking to play football type.

Does anyone know if he attended the Gophers camp as a Sophmore or Junior, in order to get a Gopher offer he might have to attend a Gopher camp or some of the summer camps and show that he can do this against higher levels of athletes and competition. Not saying Frazee doesn't play against good athletes but being a small town there is obviously less of them and this is one of the lesser populated regions of the state so there may be a little bias going against the guy.

He must be on their radar a little bit if he attended Junior day. If I'm coach Miller I go see this guy practice though and find out what he is about, I think this guy has potential to be a player. He is the kind of guy NDSU will be all over and Bohl from Wyoming probably will be checking him out in person too. People must know about him by now.

According to 247, iowa offered Boyle today.

Well, that quickly shot a hole in what I'd been reading.

Although he likely could have been offered at a position other than QB.

He looks smaller than 6'2" 205 to me, but maybe not.

Sources at 247 confirmed Boyle's offer was from Ferentz in person today. They also said the offer was as a QB.

Personally I really like Boyle and think we have a good shot at him if we offer.

Why do you feel we have a good shot at him- typically do not fare well on kids from Iowa that are offered by the Squakeyes

He has visited unofficially, came to our junior day, and has made favorable comments about being a Jordan Lynch type of QB in our offense.

Well Iowa already has a verbal from a more highly touted QB, and they signed a 4 star QB in this last class. Plus I'm guessing Rudock starts for the next two years.

I like the Gophers chances with him if they offer, too. Iowa runs a more pro-style offense and already has the top pro-style QB in the midwest comitted for their next class. His comments about the U have been encouraging. While it's tough to get any Iowa kid with a Hawkeye offer, this is doable. Of course, no guarantees Kill even offers. I personally would rather take a shot with him than Ryan Schlichte but who knows what the coaches are thinking.

I like him better than Schlichte for our offense as well. As far as getting Iowa kids with Hawkeye offers, I feel like we vastly under recruit Iowa. I don't recall having many battles with Iowa for their instate guys. They are after ours much more often. I looked up Iowa players that signed with the Hawkeyes. According to info I found on Rivals Jay Scheel and a juco player were the only ones we offered and lost out on in the last 5 years (maybe longer I stopped looking). Where as the Hawkeyes seem to offer multiple MN kids every single year. I know there isn't a ton of talent in Iowa, but both instate schools sign a few each year. We lost that Charles Rogers kid to ISU a couple years back. I think Iowa is a bit of an under recruited area. The competition would be tough with both Iowa schools competing for the small talent pool, but I think we're close enough to build some relationships without spending a ton of resources.

No offer from Iowa State or UNI either.
We battled it out with Coe.
I'm starting to think Poock scared P. Nelson all the way to Rutgers. We haven't had a good nickname since Dyron Russ donned YumYum.
Poock needs a nickname? Samson? Delilah?

He's wearing a Gophers jersey in his Rivals profile picture.

Would love to see Grant to be the first to pull the trigger for '15.

We're talking about a guy rated just as high if not higher than Ragnow by the recruiting sites. Getting Schmidt to commit early would be huge and a great start to the class.

Don't be surprised to see Iowa go after Schmidt. They have a history with players from South Dakota including Chad Greenway and LT Riley Rieff. They won't let this kid go without a fight. Ditto with the Paulson Brothers and Ryan Boyle. Should be interesting.

You'd think Iowa would've offered Schmidt by now. Is Kill going after the Paulson brothers? They don't have gopher offers.

If the player is any good, there will always be the recruiting wars. Jerry will win his share and loose a few. I would rather have that then recruit all players no one else is interested in. Go Jerry and staff. We are well on our way in getting the types of players that will get us to the next level.

Surprised neither Nebraska nor Iowa has offered Schmid yet. He's visited both and both seem very interested in him. Should be a shoot-out between all three teams to land him but I like Kill's spot right now.

Pooks addition is already changing Iowa for the better. He is from the okoboji area(where I live). And his parents own a bar here. It used to be full of Hawkeye stuff, but now when u walk in the bar the 1st thing you see is a big Gophers banner! So there is now a few more Gopher fans in Iowa now!
