Official 2013 Class Recruiting Updates Thread

I dunno, I just like the fact that he's had an Alabama offer on the table for a while now and hasn't taken it. Also he hasn't set up a bunch of other visits. FSU has a whopping 16 visitors coming in this weekend!
We have no idea what the context of that offer is, however.

This is why you need a early signing period. "Commitment" is a bogus term in this day and age of recruiting.

Interesting to see what kind of Athlete Reid Travis is. Nugget from Doogie is that Iowa offered him and Wisconsin in planning a visit with him at DeLaSalle. Is he still a basketball guy or is football still an option?

I think he is definitely a better basketball prospect, I think I heard Tom Izzo offered him a scholly already. Maybe he'll play both.

So it is Walk-On Weekend...I think the PWO are the heart and soul of great teams, I hope we get all three of these guys!

Any word on Dixon?

I'd like to see more out of state kids coming in for junior day, but I think they have to pay their own travel costs and stuff so it might be tough. Justyn Oliphant, a rb from texas and Kamren Lott, a safety from florida are suppose to be visiting for junior day based on what I've read. Oliphant reminds me of a less stout LaMichael James.

I was just looking at Minnesota kids as I was killing time on Friday. Dont know who else will be in town tomorrow.

Yeah, the word isn't really apt anymore in college football for the players or the coaches, however, I don't really like the idea of an early signing period. It would be nice for the staffs because they could "lock up" certain prospects early and focus just on newer guys but in general, I think it's best to let the kids wait as long as possible before they make the choice. It could be one of the biggest choices in their lives and while it's tough for us to watch a kid like Andrews and hope he doesn't change his mind, sometimes it's best to make sure they are sure. Sometimes when they change their minds, it works out for the best for them.

I still think a lot of these kids make an initial commitment, soft or otherwise, to take greater control of their recruiting. It puts them in the position of saying "can't you read?" to some of the recruiters while giving themselves the opportunity to still take officials. I could be wrong, seeing as the only recruiting letter I ever got was from Inver Hills Community College which doesn't give me much of an understanding of how high-level athletes are recruited.

Same here. Only other offer was from the Armed Forces Recruiting Center. Needless to say Inver Hills cooled on me when they found out I would require summer school to graduate. :)

An early signing period is an interesting topic. Each recruit brings their own scenerio and unique set of circumstances.

There are players who make their decision early and have no interest in looking around. Let them sign early and require both the athlete and school to honor it. But that doesn't fit all recruits who need to do their due diligence. Same with the school.

On the surface, I think the NCAA would be well served to allow early signings.

Wouldn't an early signing period just move all of this talk up to the fall, instead of eliminating it? We'd just be having these conversations a few months earlier. Maybe someone who follows bbal recruiting more closely than I do would have an idea on that?

What I'd kind of like is an optional early signing period. Then the justification is, that if a kid signs with you during early signing and is academically eligible for your school, you are automatically required to honor his schollie even if he is hurt during his senior year. It'd allow the small schools the chance to try to snipe some kids away from the premier programs and would make the offers you give kids early even more significant.
I won't go overly into depth about the idea but its a thought.

Kill visited Thompson this weekend. I believe Thompson has visited MN twice this year. Last year Kill got everyone except Drew Davis that both visited MN and received an in-home visit.

Officially Accepted into the University of Minnesota!! #Minnesota #SkiUMah http://instagr.am/p/UW7Y6hO3-j/

Great News! I wonder if he could be a spring admit. Also, It appears to me that Kill and his staff work harder and smarter at recruiting than Mason and Brewster ever did. They're like the EverReady bunny, they just keep on going and going.

I totally agree!

Sounds like the giant punter is looking around and is not a firm commitment. Scout reports this is the case. *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#!

Get used to it! As we improve are recruiting we'll have to deal with other schools trying to poach our commits.

OK. But I feel like our recruiting is pretty pathetic this year so I don't know if your post is valid.

This is based solely on the notion that WRs are usually taller, but he's 6'4". If he comes to the U, I imagine it will be as a WR.
