NIT Game #1: #1 Gophers vs. #8 High Point [ESPN3, 7:15PM]

Hitting myself while actually saying this:

This should wrap up the game.

Bashing Pitino and praising Tubby's worst recruit is evidence enough.

no it doesn't...why does everything have to be a tubby vs pitino thing on here, every coach is open to criticism, does't mean you support another coach, esp if the other coach isn't mentioned at all, you're making huge leaps with your assumptions there

I'm really waiting to see what changes Joey makes to his body and his game in the offseason. If he makes the necessary improvements, I think he can be a really big piece for us. Ideally he should be coming off the bench next year.

+1

You must not have seen Malik's shot selection that last month. Any coach without a bias would have sat his ass. I'm only stating the obvious. Has nothing to do with bashing/praising anyone.

Say anything you want about shooting out of a slump, but there is something to be said about taking good shots to get out of a slump and simply taking bad shots. Malik knew he could do whatever the hell he wanted and still get minutes.

Meanwhile, you've got a player that plays within himself and has a good shot selection that couldn't buy 3 minutes on the court until 2 weeks ago.

P.S. to make you feel better. I'm not a "Tubby lover." Gosh that sounds weird.

Mav now with 21!!!!!!! Pretty cool last few games for him to finish his career.

Go Gophers!!

Dre went to the basket like time was about to expire...what the hell was that?

And to answer the question posed before... Mav will start if Mathieu doesn't play next game. And we'll probably lose. Because Mathieu is our best player, not because Mav is not good.

+1, its like saying I should want malik starting over austin and dre otherwise it would mean I would rather have tubby as the coach, this whole tubby vs pitino thing needs to end, stop turning things into such debates. Pitino isn't above criticism, and nor does it mean we would rather have the old coach instead of him.

Depends on the matchup. I don't know much about our potential opponents, but we can pose matchup problems with our bigs - look at PSU. And the Hollins' shouldn't be discounted.

I liked Tubby because I thought he could make us relevant, and maybe after his tenure put us in a position to land another big name coach. I like Pitino because he is an up and comer, and if we succeed with him, we may have a coach for a long time. Or be put in a position to land another good coach. If he doesn't "succeed," I think we'll be much in the same position we were when Tubby left.

LOL. "The good news is that both teams are out of timeouts." Love it.

so who do want to face? Utah or St.Marys? Haven't seen st.mary, seen a little of utah, and they remind me of wisconsin somewhat with their slow down offense and waiting til end of the shot clock to take a shot, not sure how we match up with that.

How about we talk about the actual game in this thread...

I've seen a little of SMU this year because I'm a Gonzaga fan and they are down a lot compared to most years. I have no idea about Utah. I just know their coach used to coach the Bucks and he was really, really bad.

Very happy for Mav. Fun way for him to end his career and good to get some recent game film to send to teams overseas.

Go Gophers!!

Mizzou down 49-58 against Davidson. 13 minutes left in the second half.

Don't know if it's been mentioned yet but that would certainly make the Gophers road to NY a bit easier.

Nice win Gophers. If you are going to play might as well play to win the whole dang thing.

Bleed is trying to do that but some People are not following his lead. Like a poster said, everything is about the old coach when you say the smallest negative thing about Richard.

Simply an educated guess. They already said we're playing Thursday or Friday. If he's hurt enough to not come back in, I doubt 48 hours is going to help.

State Tournament is at Williams. Where are they playing? Last I heard the game was Sunday.

Think we saw a glimpse tonight of the season we might have had if Mathieu wasn't on the team. We just don't get out in transition the same without him running the show.

Great job by Maverick. Very happy for him. Mo continues to impress (except for his hands). Not a good shooting night for him but Austin ended up with 8 assists and 0 turnovers.

Wasn't pretty but we live to play another day.

So much for my prediction of a 35 point blowout. Lol. High Point has two players who would probably start for the Gophers right now.

Says the guy who has now made two posts in this thread that have nothing to do with the game.
