According to sources Nick Rengel has left the program due to the attitude and indirection of the coaching staff.

Nick Rengal

Was he the guy from Fergus Falls? Could be wrong. What else was the deciding factor?

Gulp! Will others follow? We sure do not need a mass exit at this time.

I'd like to see some confirmation. I'm not liking Brewster's ability to actually keep recruits.

Could it be he's not going to get any playing time next year? If he transfers and ends-up playing for another BCS school, maybe blaming the coaches and not talent or injury will be accepted by fans of the program.

Sad to hear he's leaving the program and dissapointed a player's father would post that it's due to the "attitude and indirection of the coaching staff". Comes off as sour grapes.

Absolutely zero loss. Maybe he'd fit in better culturally at MSU Moorhead or NDSU.

blame

Its always the fault of someone else...

I knew someone that kept switching schools for the kids as the "teachers were weird." Never any looking in the mirror to why the kids were struggling, etc. Blame everyone else and run was always the pattern.

NOT saying that is the case here, I obviously have no clue but its just so common for everyone to always blame the teacher, boss, coach these days.

Why is your kid not on the A hockey team? The coaches are idiots, we are moving to another district.

Again, I have NO knowledge of this situation...just sayin.

What sources? I've seen a few rumors tossed around about people leaving. Until I see something substantial, I don't believe it.

rengal was from sartell

as for the little nugget about the coaches, i will wait and see how this all plays out before i believe that.

You need to compare this with other D1 programs. I would suspect every program has recruits coming and going. ( I don't like the coach, I don't get any playing time, I miss my friends at home, etc.)

Someone should tell Nick

Someone should tell Nick that as he was at practice yesterday!

If true, sorry to see him go, he seemed to be a player without a position though, I'm sure that led to some of his frustration.

Someone on Rivals reported that he was practicing at FB yesterday.

He has the perfect frame, size, speed, quickness

To play fullback in the I. He has good hands, don't know about route running. He is what one year away from the knee surgery, and at last I thought he was number 2 behind Hoese. Anyone who has played in the I and pounded the rock knows a second fullback is needed. Go get em Nick!

Every program has players leave but it seems to happen more frequently to Brewster, combined with a lot of players that are unable to get in in the first place. Seems like half the recruits either can't qualify or transfer.

I don't believe this is the case. If you have numbers backing this up, I'd love to see them. I don't think we have any more turnover than any other program, not do we have a statistically greater percentage of non-qualifiers than other BCS teams. I thought there was a post giving these numbers previously.

+1. Go lurk on the Wisky or Iowa boards and you'll notice a couple posts about players leaving their team this time of year. 2-3 defections in the spring is not unusual at all for a BCS program.

I think you have Brewster confused with Glen Mason. Masons last three or four classes averaged close to 50% early departure rate. Not acceptable. And we wonder why we have had so little depth lately.

I don't have the numbers on that, but that was my impression as well. Maybe not 50%, but at least at the same rate we are seeing now.

Frankly, I just think there's too much pressure on these kids when they are being recruited and some get stars in their eyes and make a choice that really doesn't fit who they are, probably more as students than as athletes. I think that leads to the number of defections we see across-the-board.

Not a hot recruit

Nick Rengel had no other D1 offers except Minnesota. Perhaps he will find a better attitude, and more playing time, at North Dakota State.

First of all, this is grossly incorrect. He had at least six other DI offers, and probably more.

Second of all, don't be "that guy". You know, the "we never wanted him here in the first place" guy who pretends like he sucks so it doesn't hurt later if he blows up somewhere else.

There is a true hollywood story behind every departure. The one posted above isn't the real deal. When players struggle personally, they rarely sight that as their reason for leaving. Even hometown athletes occasionally fall prey to the struggle of acclimating to college life.

What were his 6 other DI offers, please list them.

According to Rivals Rengel had offers from: Minnesota, Buffalo, Central Michigan, NDSU, Northern Illinois, UCF, Western Michigan

Well i stand corrected. He had 5 other D1 offers and from the pick of the litter to boot.

No. Again, he had 6 other DI offers besides Minnesota. They are listed above. And, you never said anything about BCS or any other such qualifiers. If you're going to shoot your mouth off in sour grapes-fashion, don't be a baby when others prove you wrong. Hope this helps.

Is this actually true?

I noticed that the individual who started this thread did not spell Rengel's name correctly in the title. I haven't seen anything about this anywhere. Maybe people shouldn't trash Nick, especially if this a hoax.
