New gold helmet??

Station19

We haven't even begun to explore the possibilities to expand the number of combinations with the use of yellow/gold socks. I went back and looked at some of the pictures and it appears that we are in a rut by using either maroon or white socks. It is time to think outside of the box (or should I say shoe?) and wear yellow/gold socks. Colored jock straps anyone?

Only if they are fur lined, Killjoy!!! :cool02:

I like the look of it! I'm glad they went away from the matte theme for the gold helmet as it is very similar to the hockey helmets, my only concern is how it will look with some of our uni combos ( especially the away white over gold look, as I much prefer the maroon domes with that combo).

Overall I think it was a good move by The U, and while I understand the whole concept of maintaining uniform integrity it's not like we have a great tradition of a singular combo that could be recognized by non-MN/BIG fans. With the widespread use of social media and the current hype of new/special uniform items have, introducing the new helmet will only make The U more visible to other fans from the other conferences.

I'm not "straw manning" anything. I don't believe a team should change their uniform identity for 18 year olds. Once you start, you lose your identity.

The best teams don't recruit to the uniform. They just ask if you want to play for a winner!!

Unfortunately, corporate money has become the driver for this "alternative uniform" thing.

I am a fan of the traditional look. Traditional being the 1970's of course.

Thank you. I chuckle when I see people say we need to go with our traditional look. We don't have one - look through the pictorial countdown to drive that point home. We've had white helmets, gold helmets, white pants, etc in the past.

For the people who want branding, I'd say the block M is the current branding - there's 5 on the current uniforms (3 on the helmet (gold and maroon), 1 on the jersey collar, and 1 on the pants). Add to that, the football font and the use of SKI-U-MAH is how they're trying to brand Minnesota football.

The problem is they are trying to compete in a fashion show.

You now have 18 ****ing combinations. THAT IS NOT A UNIFORM.

Totally idiotic. Total lack of class. Total lack of taste. Put the grown-ups back in charge.

Saying a/the traditional look and saying our traditional look are not the same thing. So you can quit chuckling. EDIT: Case in point where you quoted/misquoted jprami.

Just because we have not maintained a constant look for a long period of time doesn't mean we shouldn't start. At least we could act like a first rate program.

Though we have had multiple looks over the years, we didn't have different looks from week to week.

Some of our uniform combos are embarrassing. At least the helmet had become a constant till now.

Anyone that would choose them.

Personally, the uniforms combo issue is not that big of a deal with me but I understand your point. The good thing about the issue is that without it, I wouldn't have had the laugh from your response above. You must have been smiling when you typed it.:D

Actually the question caught me off guard for a moment. I just closed my eyes and pictured some of the worst combos and it was easy from there.

ARRRGGGHHG!!! CHANGE!!!! I HATE CHANGE!!!

HOW WILL I KNOW IF I'M WATCHING THE GOPHERS NOW?!?!

Of course this is only your opinion that keeping one uniform design makes you "a first rate program". I can think of dozens of things that are much more important when considering if a program is "first rate" or not.

Not a fan of the new helmet. When it comes to uniforms I prefer the old school maroon/gold look. I'm starting to warm up to the maroon/maroon look.

Dude, maroon helmet is NOT old school. It started with Mason. Old school is GOLD

Boo Hoo. Do you want a hankie?

Traditional as long as it's your era

Yep, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, and the rest of the SEC agree. Teams that win don't need to consistently need change their uniform for today's 18 year olds.

How about teams like Oregon, Baylor, Clemson, and others? They seem to have had recent success, even though they change uniforms much more than the Gophers have. Some of you guys get WAAAAAYYYY too worked up over this.

To me it doesn't really matter what they wear for unis, but the unis do matter to the recruits. We gotta keep it "cool" for the 18 and 19 yos out there. Trust me, they want to show a recruit a helmet or jersey and have the recruit go "wow".

Not the same.

Are you pro or anti gold helmet? Who shouldn't I encourage?

Gold helmets are awesome. I like that we can now brand like the hockey team. I agree we should dump the white pants, unless on the road.
