Minnesota / La Salle Game Thread

Can't believe it. Tubby wins his first post big ten, post season tourney game at Minnesota. Albeit, the N.I.T. Either way, good to see this young team get at least one more game this year! Congrats!

A good finish. Coleman makes his FTs, Welch converts and Rodney seals it. Anyone else think Welch is over weight?

This will be good practice playing on the road too. That's what I'm liking about it. Should have 2 BCS road games and Atlantis non conference next year.

I have to say, he does not have the body of a D1 athlete.

Solid win defense solid down the stretch. Why wasn't EE in after his flagrant 1?

No. He's bigger, but not fat IMO. Kendall Shell on the other hand ... Whole nother story.

The high-low was made completely ineffective and Tubby probably didn't think he was into the game any more after that.

Because they started to pressure him at the 3 point line and the foul was plane stupid.

Plus, Oto played very well.

I wouldn't have put him back in after that. If they would have converted on their free throws, they would have had all the momentum. Absolutely bone headed play.

I didn't notice that, but a few guys said that to me when we were watching a few games ago and he does look a little bigger and slower than earlier in the year. I thought Tubby said Ralph would play in this game, anyone know if he had a setback or just wasn't ready to go?

I just became Valpo's biggest fan.
I would rather see the best the NIT has to offer at this point - Miami.

I didn't hear the announcers even mention Ralph ..

They didn't even mention Ralph. Not once. They talked about Mbakwe and his injury - a lot - and they talked about Andre being on the bench when he had fouls. But they never mentioned Ralph or Chip.

My take - Oto played very well. He's improved greatly as the season has come along and if he can start hitting those jumpers - he's so close - he'll be a very good player for us.

Chip didn't play. Anyone know why? If Chip was a healthy scratch, that could be trouble.

I hate to say it but the team is so much faster without Ralph - and therefore better.

And speaking of speed, I really get frustrated watching Welch play. He is the worst passer on the team, and seems lazy on D. That is a bad combination, in my opinion. He's lucky he's a good shot, or he wouldn't play.

Valpo gives the fans another home game though.

Supposedly the Gophers can bid on the home game in the second round, so it could happen. That's why Iowa got a home game yesterday despite being a 7.

Iowa got the home game because their opponents gym was being used for the NCAA tourney. They didn't bid for anything. Highest seed gets it.

Exactly. Valpo wins and we get a home game as the higher seed. On the other hand, it can be argued the road game would be better for the development of the team.

So what is your point? Clearly didn't need him tonight, for that matter throughout conference play....

Ralph would have been better than EE tonight IMO. we saw Rod abuse them down low and they never doubled. Ralph usually does well against smaller defenders and not against the double. I think he would have scored a lot for us.

I was thinking the same thing, but we seem to struggle more at home than on the road.

Awesome Game to see live

This game was awesome...loved the pace...loved the aggressive action, and Rodney was a beast. He had some moments in the second half where it looked his hands quit working, but that first half was great.

La Salle folks were very nice to the few Gopher fans at the game...they were just excited to have a home post season game...big rebuilding year for them too. The fans around me were surprised at how good our young guards were and how much quickness and size we had...the basic sentiment was that if this was the 10th best B1G team, they were sure glad they didn't play in the B1G!

BTW - they had a 2 hour pep rally before the game with free food, drinks and prizes for students and alumni...it was really cool. Beautiful sunny and 70 here in Philly today and our Gopher's roll on!

Glad you gave us a report, Philly. Thanks. Doc

The Hollins brothers were very impressive this evening.

Good insight, and nice to hear about polite fans, seems to be more and more rare today.

72 in TC.

Someone asked why Ralph didn't play, if there was any info about him, so MY POINT is that the announcers didn't tell the viewers a thing about Ralph.
