Minnesota’s Corey Hetherman new defensive coordinator at Miami

Why the puke face? Things seem to be working well with Winston coaching the D Line.
I tend to agree. I think Sori-Marin was a leader on the defense when he was there, especially as a senior and could be a fine coach. My only concern would be his ability to recruit versus someone who is a “proven” recruiter. But even that “proven” recruiter had to start somewhere. If PJ were to hire him as the LB coach I wouldn’t bat an eye at it.

One thing you get with a hire like Sori Marin would be great fit with the culture and chemistry of the team.

We're in the era of musical chairs for players and coaches. Don't get attached and don't expect somebody to stick around too long.

The question is, without attachment and committment, will the fans still care as much a few years down the line?
When weren't we in that era? Assistant coaches switch jobs all the time and have most of my life...

You’re right. It might be a step down.

Miami is going gangbusters in NIL but that may or may not be sustainable. It’s a relatively small private school in the ACC and likely is overpaying Hetherman to make the jump.

The Big Ten is on a rampage and seems to be one of the few conferences with an upward trajectory. As college football shifts gears to being run more and more like a pro sport, the Gophers could benefit greatly.

The issue here is 100% the small bonus pool for our assistant coaches. Fleck has deftly managed to fill replacements but if it’s me, I’m giving back some of my salary and increasing that pool. The fact that he makes more than his entire assistant pool is pretty nuts.
It doesn't need to be sustainable, it just needs to be there when he is coaching. If 5 years from now they are broke it won't much matter if he is coaching somewhere else.

They have more resources than we do and are spitting distance to some of the best players in the country...not many people would turn that down when they have zero ties to the place they are leaving.

Maybe
I don’t like hiring a guy who played with people on the roster

I’m sure there are exceptions but it’s just an odd vibe

Usually I wouldn’t want them in charge until everyone they played with has cleared.
I haven’t coached college though so vibes may be different than HS

I hear this all the time about various college programs. This player is getting 8 million in the portal. This program has $50 million in NIL. I mean. Come on. Really? Nobody knows if any of this is true. There's no NIL reporting system. So, how would you make a statement like this. All we hear is stuff from people like Doogie and Shooter and their ilk at other programs.

I guess I meant more with vibing with the rest of the coaching staff. Could be weird for the first couple years with some of the players I suppose.

Bummer. Hope they keep somewhat the same scheme and the aggressiveness Hetherman instilled.

Good job and congratulations, Mr. Hetherman. You did a great job this year.

I hope every game for the rest of your career is a humiliating blowout.

This logic would only work if you compare a house in Edina to a comparably upscale suburb of Miami. And my guess is Miami is considerably more expensive.
His salary couldn’t buy him one of the nicest in any area. The difference in home prices between Miami and Minneapolis largely is due to the extreme wealth. If you take the nicest and most expensive homes on Lake Minnetonka, they compare to the nicest homes in Miami. There are just about 15 times more of them.

All of that said, I’m sure he is going to rent a luxury apartment for $3500 that he could have gotten for $3000 in Minnesota. Slightly more expensive but not enough to offset the tax breaks.

Sad thing is that 3K a month gets you a decent, not luxury, apt these days lol.

My son was looking for a 2bd in a third ring suburb and everything was nearly 2k lol. I cant believe how expensive it has become.
