Limegrover is not good

The wind, clock and qb experience had to have been in the mind of Limegrover. What was Kirkwood's average per carry in the 4th quarter? Good Job Gophers !!

5.7 yards per carry

Kirkwood was a definite bright spot. Max also added a much needed spark to the offense and the d seemed to give the d a lift as well.

Why is it that some people can't just discuss the things that aren't working without getting their underwear in a bunch?

Sorry I'm not a homer that only sees what worked. Glad they won but that type of play won't win many B1G games.

You started out with your underwear in a bunch.

Kirkwood was good today. You even watch the game?

Kirkwood hasn't fumbled yet (right?) and I count that as his biggest accomplishment.

Kirkwood isn't beating anybody, and is often getting caught on the backside.

It's not his fault entirely.

Clearly we aren't getting anything right now out of "being multiple" (as coach puts it) in our running game.

This wins the Stupid A$$ thread of the month award!

Obviously, without Limegrover, this is a national championship caliber team. That was obvious today. The voices in my head told me so over and over, and they are never wrong.

;)

'Not good' is kind of a foolish thing to say.

However, the play calling today was poor. Look at what the offense did with Gray leading. In a little over 25 minutes, we were able to put up only 7 points. Keep in mind, Carter's INT set that drive up at the 8 yard line. I simply don't understand the ultra conservative play calling. How do you set up the run when 80% of the plays called are draws right up the middle. You don't have to open up the entire playbook to call a few more pass plays. Keep the defense honest which we were not able to do until Gray went down and Shortell led us on three straight touchdown drives. This was a game that we may very well have lost if Shortell didn't come in and sling the ball around, because the offense prior to it was downright offensive.

Way to be a moron. I follow the team and I didn't like what I saw.

Get over it, idiot.
Yeah, good one. All you do is show up for gameday and make negative statements to incite people. You are the very definition of a troll.

Everyone's got a range of opinions for what could be improved and how- - - and that's okay. My experience is that the problems aren't static and the variables for improvement change from game to game and, within the game, from one down to the next.

What we ultimately look for is the victory and I'm impressed that this team sustains its work. In his after game interview, Kill said that last year's team probably would not have won this game. I wasn't able to watch much football last year but I think that I would wholly agree that the year before (Brewster's last season) we would not have won today's game.

For me that's adequate progress for the third game into a new season. I'd love it if we got to .500 by the end of the season but will be satisfied if we don't -- yet have decent opportunities when the regular season begins and the team doesn't roll over.

But that's just me.

The 3rd and 1 call late was very disappointing and I think there was a couple head scratchers with QB draws before Gray went down.
Very disappointing that Gillum hasn't lived up to any of his hype but good to see that Kirkwood can be productive when given a lot of work (23 carries for 109 yards, 4.8 YPC).
-I know this thread is about offense but is anyone else concerned that a 5'5" running back from Western Michigan just racked up 144 yards on us? I thought our D line looked good getting pressure on Carder but they had huge holes to run through.
All in all I am happy with the win and as Jerry said "It is easier to learn when you are winning"
Syracuse 21 Stony Brook 17 in the 3rd quarter, 4-0 looks like a good possibility.

That running back was really quick. It looked to us that he was able to just duck down behind his linemen and you couldn't see him until he sprung through a hole.

He had 66 yards TOTAL in his first two games; so it seems that they were able to see him. Tackle him too!:banghead:

I think they were passing a lot more in those first two games and maybe wanted to get more of a balance offense. In reading some articles before the game ... they said to expect up to 50 to 60 throws in the game. I don't think they were close to that. I do agree that our D-line didn't control the line of scrimmage today. So I think it was a combo of both. (IMO)

Agree to some extent - would like to see some misdirection, some imagination; but I like the balance between running and passing this year, roughly 200/200 per game and our running game did come alive in the fourth quarter, but we need at least one more running back, big and fast. Kirk is doing a good job, but he needs some help.

Yes. Our run D is easily the biggest concern on this team (special teams would be second in my mind). The d-line is geared towards rushing the passer and the linebackers aren't tackling or getting good angles at all.

Agreed,

Ya, that 3rd down play looked very bad. However, we experts sitting in the stands or watching on the tube, don't have a clue about what was intended. Who missed his assignment? Did the defense adjust? I think the guy who has spent his whole life coaching, watching loads of film, and seeing these players every day in practice has a better grasp of the game that we do.

I think this offense is based on a lot of repetition. That same play Gray was running looked like the one he broke in the previous game. Who knows if they would have broken another long play or what was being set up, but with Gray getting hurt, people automatically assume we would have kept doing the same thing.

Jerry hasn't checked with me yet, but I really don't have a problem with conservative approach. People are bitching about the plan when Gray was in, but conveniently forget what was called when Shortell came in. He immediately got a bunch of pass plays so this staff does adjust and can open it up. Personnel and game situation are going to dictate it, and they know a hell of a lot more about those factors than we do.

Amazing to get on here and see all of the bitching about a game that most of us wouldn't have been surprised to lose. Take away Shortell's interception or the too many men penalty on that 4th down and we very well could have taken control of the game.

Do you understand what a message board is for? Discussing aspects of the game. Not every thread can be sunshine and rainbows. As for bitching......most of us are very happy that we won. There is a huge difference between bitching, and questioning aspects of our game plan.

All I was saying is that in 25 minutes, the Gray run offense ran around 80% draw plays. We scored one touchdown which started on their 8 yard line due to the Carter INT. It took the next four and a half minutes for us to score two more touchdowns on long drives due to the passing game. What this tells me, is that the coaching staff can make adjustments mid game. They had to start passing because Shortell is not the dynamic runner that Gray is. What this also tells me, is that they are not afraid to pass the ball, but reluctant to let Gray throw the ball. It is not as though the running game was lighting the world on fire. If anything, it wasn't working very well. So why did we continue running the same play over and over again?

Terrible play calls, ultra conservative in every game, won't throw the ball, etc. How do you call a slow-developing run play on 3rd and 1 when the D is going to send everyone? I always hate it when coaches do that.

The only play I will question is the 4th down call in the final quarter. Was it JK or Limegrover that decided to go for it. As an old coach, I would have punted out out of bounds. Just my 2cents

I can't believe as asst coach ever makes that call.

Amen...+1000

Glad the came out with the win though.
