Limegrover is not good

Limegrover tried to open things up after a fews series of 2nd and 9's. Unfortunately most of the time receivers weren't creating any space. When they did Nelson couldn't hit them. Except for 2 or 3 games that's been the problem all year. The much injured Offensive Line play has been pretty bad for the Running Game. That same O.L. hasn't deserved all the criticism it's gotten around here for it's role in the lousy Passing Game. QBs for the most part, often had time to throw and Receivers had time to get open.

Have you noticed that almost every time they try to "open things up" they simply throw a somewhat long pass down the sideline? Same thing over and over. We must be one of the easiest teams to prepare for.

Pretty much. Makes one wonder if Nelson has the arm strength yet to zip something to a Receiver over the middle.

This thread keeps on getting bumped after every Gopher loss. The one thing I noticed while being in the stadium yesterday was that Nelson had multiple opportunities to make plays through the air. I don't have specific plays, but I remember at least a couple plays where Nelson did not scan the field and was locked on to one side of the field resulting in him missing open receivers (McDonald a couple times). It's not something you can see on TV unless the announcers mention it, which I'm guessing they didn't. I also remember several more passes where Nelson simply overthrew the receiver badly. He's a freshmen and hopefully those things works themselves out over the off season.

Limegrover is doing a decent job with the talent he has, which is pretty raw.

Stop wondering. He simply doesn't have the arm. Maybe someday he will but not right now.

I know if I were a defensive coordinator, I would want to play this offense:

QB - True Fr
LT - Jr
LG- Soph
C- RS Soph
RG- RS Soph
RT- RS Fr
HB - RS Soph
WR1- Fr
WR2- Soph

Pretty much all of their backups (save MG) - also underclassmen

It didn't help when the offense couldn't find a play or a specific part of the offense to come back to. Nothing was working. We didn't have an identity.

Limegrover needs to switch something up.

I won't lay all the blame on him, however. Nelson missed several receivers yesterday. That isn't the issue. One drive we would throw three straight passes down the sideline, on the next drive, we would bring Gray off the bench to run three straight options. It is not a good sign when we compile less than 100 yards in three quarters. That is a scheme problem. The run game simply didn't work against MSU, yet we stuck by it. Don't ask me why. Those were wasted plays.
