Koi Perich Transfer Portal

He has the chance to make more money and win more on a bigger stage at a more successful school.

Take a step back and think it over from all sides... If Koi was your kid, what would you tell him to do??
I have actually thought of this a few times.

It is important to note, he isn't playing for free at the U. What is the difference between $500k and $1 million... $500k and that is a lot of money!

With that being said, what can only the U give him that no other school can? It has been well known he wasn't as good his sophomore year as his freshman year, but he still remains by far and away the most popular player on the Gophers. He stays one (maybe 2) more years and his name is easily next to Laurence Maroney, MB3, Eric Decker, and Antoine Winfield Jr... not saying they are the best Gophers of the last 25 years but easily the most popular. His name would be right in that circle. What is the price tag on that? To some it is priceless, to others it doesn't mean as much.

Koi could easily say "I don't care as much about being a legendary Gopher, I would rather be in the long line of Buckeyes, but I'll be playing in the CFP." He isn't right or wrong...

I would love to play for my home state team and become legendary...

A lot of times, your position coach is more important than the DC. You spend much more time with your position coach than any of the other coaches.
He's his position Coach as well, so now what?

Idiot 'adults' created this nonsense. Binding contracts NOW. I'm a right-wing capitalist and similar-identifying idiots claim I am a commie for opposing this NIL and easy transfer nonsense. You are morons and you have destroyed college football. Congrats, you numbnutted short-sighted fools.
So basically you’re a capitalist when it suits your interests but not when it interferes with your favorite football team.

As an aside, Rasheed Hageman came up on my people you may know list in Facebook, my nephew grew up playing on youth teams with him is the reason he appeared I assumed. Out of curiosity I clicked on his profile, one thing that struck me was he had a post that stated if you knew what football does to your body and your mind would you still play the sport. After two years I can't help but wonder if Perich isn't thinking he might as well get as much out of the sport as he can and if the money elsewhere is good enough he might as well jump at it.
Rasheed was maybe the most talented and dominant Gopher since the Mason years. I hope he has found some peace. Koi does play hard and there re were a few times this year I thought he had been hurt.

Blame Ed O'Bannon, he's the asshole who started this whole mess.

Hate what he did. Always and forever.

You guys can't be that naive and misguided to think this wasn't going to happen at some point whether it was Ed O'Bannon spurred by Sonny Vaccaro or someone else every bit as justified.

The 1980s. CBS starts throwing hundreds of millions for March Madness. ESPN & company start throwing comparable dough to conferences for football & basketball rights.

That begats turf wars for mega conferences and now billion dollar TV rights deals.

The member NCAA institutions should have gotten ahead giving the talent their fair share. If not when Bird & Magic were done, definitely by the end of MJs tenure for certain.

They wanted to keep as much as they could as long as they could. Here we are.

Same dude who's put multiple safeties into the nfl
Four Gophers starting at safety in the NFL.
Losing Koi hurts and it’s red meat for gopher trolls here and elsewhere to be negative about the program. Until we can increase our NIL pot this will happen. Like someone else mentioned I think Kerry Brown is more valuable.

I had the opportunity to play golf with Koi the summer before his Freshman year at Les Bolsted Golf Course at the UofM. Koi was an idiot and an ass hat. Good riddance. And frankly, he's overrated. I'd be surpised if he has any success in the NFL.

Best of Luck to him, glad we got him for 2 years. He will be a pro one day.

We weren't exactly the best team with him, lets spread the wealth around.

This (see link below) is a good listen.

Some points:

1) Perich is an amazing athlete, and because of that he chases the football. He freelances. That's how big plays happen, but when you're the 'center fielder' on defense you sometimes need to play 'boring' football — keep the play in front of you. When you gamble and miss as a safety, bad things can happen.

2) Perich was one of the top-paid players. That money can now go elsewhere. Burns specifically mentioned defensive tackle. With the Perich money, combined with the fact that Logan-Redding and Eastern are off the books, they will have some capital to shore up the tackle position.

3) Safety is a position of strength, even without Perich. Kerry Brown is coming back. Gousby likely returning. Burns also mentioned some young talent at the position, already on the roster.

I listened to the same podcast. We lost a kid with a lot of potential at a position of strength. Get someone that is 90% of Koi that doesn’t freelance because he knows he can’t get away with it, shore up some weaker areas of the defense, and maybe it’s actually better next year.

Another interesting thing Burns mentioned is Koi isn’t really a fame kinda guy. Maybe he’s looking to go someplace where he isn’t the face of the program. And he can earn some more money to boot! Maybe both sides win with this move.

For some reason this doesn’t surprise me.

I would tell him to stay at UMN. His long term prospects are greater here. He has the opportunity to be Gopher legend.
