He's not a running QB and they are running RPO, so the comments about AK keeping it don't make sense. Anywho, freely admit I got this one wrong, very wrong.
 



It’s kind of funny they ran off Wimsatt who probably fits that offense better for a one year stop gap as he can actually run the ball

Through 2 Big Ten games - 29 for 61 (48%) with 2 TD and 2 INT.....Not sure what they thought they were getting in AK but you would think seeing him in action for us would have been enough to keep them away.

Kind of like when Seattle signed Blair Walsh. They saw first hand the kind of carnage he could cause when he missed the shorty in the playoffs that ended our season (though worth pointing out that our offense didn't put the ball in the end zone once, so Walsh literally scored all of our points including, if memory serves, a long field goal in the sub zero temps). Then he missed a short one that kept them out of the playoffs.

Yep, never any doubt that AK has some ability but his game needs a ton of work and he should probably be getting that work in against G5 or FCS defenses. Thankfully though it is no longer our problem.
 





He's apparently an upgrade from their starter last year and was the best they could get in the portal. I wish him the best and hope he improves. He's still young. It was good to get him out of here. He could not meet the expectations. Unfortunately, it appears he may have just jumped from the frying pan and into the fire. I doubt he'll find the east coast media as kinder and gentler! I agree that going down a level to FCS or G5 may have been better for his development.
 

AK really doesn’t have that much talent.
He can’t run.
He had one good game against Wisconsin 2 seasons ago where the gopher wideouts had a ton of YAC.


Excluding that Wisconsin game
Vs power 5 in games he played about half the game or more
He has 4/17 games with a 60% completion percentage
14 touchdowns 12 ints

Including it he is 5/18 games with a 60% completion percentage
16 touchdowns 12ints

I’ll forever love him for that Wisconsin game but he is simply and inaccurate passer

You don't have to go to the archives. I freely admit I was REALLY eager to have him under center, and after the fine performance he put in at Wisconsin, I expected much more of the same in 2023. I think that was a reasonable opinion. It also turned out to be an incorrect opinion. All that being said, I think it is totally relevant to track his continued performance at his new school.

AK turned out to be a below average B1G QB last year, and by all accounts, when he has been asked to step up the Rutger's passing game this season, there has been a lot more of 2023 in his performance than evidence of a big step forward. I think that is interesting and relevant to follow.

Basically my feel-sorry-for-myself Minnesota sports fan self has predicted he'd have the game of his life to QB Rutgers past the Gophers this year when his two teams meet. We'll see, but in the meantime any news on his progress is really interesting to me.
 

Hindsight is 20/20, but we all knew it at the time. KC's offense is too rudimentary and he lucked out having two NFL WR's in 2019 (and a healthy CRAB) that could turn his simple RPO slants into 70 yard touchdowns, or catch a contested deep fade in a close game. Also, giving the ball to Mo 30 times a game makes any OC's life very easy.

I talked a lot of smack about Greg Harbaugh earlier this year, and I stood by those comments at the time. But He called a very solid game against USC and while there are still some very questionable calls, he seems to be playing into the strengths of our skill guys and Max.

Nobody denies there was a ton of excitement about AK prior to the 2023 season. He supposedly had the physical tools that Morgan lacked and there were plenty of fans calling for him to replace Morgan prior to Tanner getting hurt in 2022. He was good in the second half against Nebraska then shaky until the Wisconsin game where he played great and was looking good in the bowl game before he got hurt.

As for moving on....earlier in the year there were posters acting like the coaches made a mistake in letting AK go because Rutgers was off to a good start and we were not. But now we are seeing that AK is basically still the same guy he was last year while we have a really solid QB running the show for us.

I've moved on (as excited as I was in the pre-season last year). The guy stopped even trying to hit a crossing route last year, especially in man-to-man. It was an automatic incompletion.
 

By the third quarter of the Nebraska game last year there was absolutely a "why the F is he throwing the ball at 90mph to wide open receivers five yards past the line of scrimmage?" vibe.

And then there was the skyball over the wide open TE against Illinois🤢
 

Holy cow, I just looked up the stats. In conference play only vs Nebraska and Washington, AK has:

Completion percentage: 47.5%
Yards per game: 150.5
Passer rating: 93.5

On a side note, how in the hell did Washington lose to Rutgers with their crappy offense? Washington outgained Rutgers 521 yards to 299 and had no turnovers. That doesn't even seem possible.
