Joey King: Is he a liability on the court?

Is Joey a liability on the court? Well lets see. He plays as hard as anyone. Usually guards 4s that are bigger and faster but have never seen him hang his head. Instead he defends and rebounds and does whatever is asked of him because we are thin at that position. He can hit the open shot and is decent from the line. I think he knows his strengths and mostly plays within his own limitations. He may make a bad decision on occasion but kids do that from time to time. Plus I doubt if Coach Pitino would start him or play him at all if he thought he was a liability. So in my opinion he is not a liability and frankly the title of this thread is ridiculous.

The thread title was formed as a question, not a statement. Obviously, I was looking for input. I didn't state he was a liability. I asked for others input. Take a deep breath.

false

Yep. Imagine if he improves to the point where he can utilize that pump fake to drive in a couple of feet and find a wide open teammate by the hoop. Right now he pump fakes and passes all from the same spot.

Input is exactly what I contributed.

That really hurts from someone who goes to the Texas Tech board to spread hatred towards our x-coach.

Never been there and no desire to go there. Sorry.

Interesting (but not surprising) confession on your part though re: frequenting the Texas Tech board. Hero worship much?

Jake, what I responded to was he left the PF spot totally empty. To change to a more pleasant subject, as we sit, we're not in a much better position at the 3 for next season. You may get your chance to coach our favorite team to 9th place yet.

This just in from Howie: Tubby didn't leave the back-up PG spot totally empty because Mav was there

This thread is one of the most epic fails that I have seen on GH in terms of trying to support an argument. Dpdoll can at least frame an argument even if it doesn't make sense. Howie is just throwing out a bunch of non-sequiturs. Thread title should be changed to Howie: Is he a liability as a poster?

Funny, was thinking while reading Howies posts in this thread of how he is trying to be a version of DP... DP at least is correct most of the time, disagree with his methods, but he usually has a valid point. Howie is just annoying.

+1

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. No one is entitled to having the world care about their opinion!

underground629- Joey also has possibly the best pump fake in the BT.

Really? That's what ur going with?

In which case try this:
'Joey King: asset or liability? Discuss.'

Not entirely accurate. You stated why you thought he was a liability in the first post of the thread. Leading question at best

Are you stupid?

Just a question, I'm looking for input.

Get it now?

Sidenote: I am not calling u stupid, illustrating a point.

man, Buckles is averaging 13.4, 8.6 and 1.5 blocks a game, damn. Obviously those numbers wouldn't be that high in the big ten but still superior king's 2.6 boards per game.

The thing that really irks me about King is he has the ball come right to the area he's rebounding and me manages to lose the ball and fumble it into the oppositions hands almost every time. He's also really becoming timid on his threes and can't make any progress when making a move with his back to the basketball.

*The Doctor's Remedy: Start playing with controlled aggression and confidence Joey!

Excellent suggestion. But I can't figure out where to edit a thread title. Anyone know?

It doesn't matter if you edit the title of the thread your initial post still states your stance on the question

Joey also has possibly the best pump fake in the BT. It's amazing how badly he gets people to bite on in considering he isn't a great shooter and really doesn't take that many outside shots other than wide open threes.

He does have a nice shot fake. The problem is that he does nothing with it. He can fake a three and get the defender out of position, but he rarely takes advantage. Hopefully that changes.

I was hoping this thread would have died out by now. How many ways can it be said that King tries hard, but lacks talent? I'll wait until this time next year to read the verdict on King. Hopefully, they won't have to rely on him as much next year.

To the OP.....I believe Joey Has answered your question. Lol.

For a guy who is playing PF who should be playing SF he is doing okay. It is painful to watch him get an offensive rebound inside and then do everything but put it back up with power, but maybe he'll figure it out.
I don't think he'll ever be a true PF.

Two college coaches in a row didn't play King out of position and I think he will start at the 4 next season. I believe Martin will be ready for the big stage at some point next season, but it will take some time to beat out Joey. I thought he played well for a sophomore. Two different coaches played him almost 20 minutes per game.

I here what you are saying, but he has shown rapid improvement over the last half dozen games. So much so, that I am not sure that the grad transfers at PF are an upgrade. There is a real chance that he is our starting PF next year. FWIW I am impressed with the way he is playing

Agreed, Joey is not a 3 and I expect him to be our starting 4 and will average at least 20 minutes a game between the 4 and 3 positions throughout next year. He's highly coachable (based on HS) and works hard. Those types of players tend to find the court when a team is as talent poor as we are at the moment in those two positions.

Now, if we pick up some transfers for next year things might change a little bit more drastically as the season progresses. But I expect Joey to be on the court for our initial tip off.

What he said!

Congrats to Joey on his steady improvement, and representing well, as the lone native son on the team!
