Jerry Kill Legacy Thread

Maybe everybody should think back to where we were with Brewster at this point?

6-1. Ranked. Playing great defense.

We all thought we were watching him grow as a coach too.

Just saying.

We could all be wrong, that's a given. The difference though is that Brewster had no track record to compare to except his first 1-11 injury plagued year. His lousy finish that year was also based on a string of injuries to 1st and 2nd stringers on a club that had a well established lack of depth.

Kill and his staff have a long, strong record of turning things around, albeit at a lower record. Don't need to hope he can "grow" into the role, just hoping his previous record isn't a mirage at this level. Kill too, can be done in by injuries over the last four games. Something they've been pretty lucky to avoid so far this year, unlike the last two.

Oh yeah "just saying". :D

A

The defense is playing very well. I haven't seen a defense play so well since we played Oklahoma at the dome.

Wrong. At this point with Brewster, we were 4-4 and had just given up 38 points to Ohio St.

Year 2, year 3, what's the difference?

Looks like I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue.

Yeah, don't let facts get in the way of making your negative blather. Hard to delve into the mind of someone like you, but it appears the point was the program was developing under Brewster and didn't continue, so the same will happen with the Kill regime. It appears obvious to most of us, even the ones sniffing glue, that under Kill there is steady and clear progress.

Zero FBS bowl wins is no mirage. It's factual.

It's 11:00 am on a Saturday
The regular crowd shuffles in
There's an old man sitting next to me
Asking God for just one more win

He says, "Son could you make me a memory
I'm not sure how it goes
But its sad and so sweet if we could compete
If we could end our team's woes.

La di da, didi da, didi da da dah

Sing us a song, you're the varsity
Sing us a song, this morn
Well, we're all in the mood for a melody
We'll clap with the choppers we've worn
You'll get us feeling all right!

Sing us a song, you're a Gopher man
Sing us a song, tonight!
We're all in the mood for a victory
And, you've got us feeling alright.

It's a pretty good crowd for a Saturday
And, the wife, she gave me a smile
Cuz, she knows that the team she's coming to see
Makes it all fun for a while
And the band, it sounds like a carnival
And the micorbrew's are the best of the beer
That we grabbed from our car, as we waved to Gophers near
And the people all stand, as the best in the land
Swing the gates open for all to cheer

Sing us a song, your a Gopher man
Sing us a song, tonight!
We're all in the mood for a victory
And, you've got us feeling alright.

Very nice, though now I can't get "Piano Man" out of my head.

Nevermind. You made a point based on facts that were disputed and proved to be wrong, making your point not just invalid, but unnecessarily inflamatory. I can't tell if anything can make you change your mind or if you're committed to being negative.

This was a good team last year and will be better this year. Kill made NIU into a team that could consistently beat lower level BCS teams. He's now recruiting into the B1G and we'll see this year that thus staff us going to compete with anyone and beat all but the elite. 9 or 10 wins this year and the program will make huge leaps in recruiting and play.

A solid "A"! Go Gophers!

This season will tell us a lot about what Jerry Kill's legacy at Minnesota is going to be.

I think we will all agree his legacy is already above Masons..........

I think we will all agree his legacy is already above Masons..........

Not sure if this is supposed to be funny or not.

Whatever you think of Mason, he accomplished some things that Kill has not been able to at this point. Mason's teams won 3 bowl games; Mason had a 10-win season; and Mason had 2 teams finish the season ranked in the top 20.

When Kill does that, then you can start arguing legacy.

To be clear - I like Kill as a person - I did not like Mason as a person - but as a coach, Mason still has a leg up based on overall results. Kill certainly has an opportunity to beat Mason's record - but that is yet to be seen.

At this point in time, that's nothing but a nasty old fib, spoofin. Coach Kill is a pretty good coach. Give him a chance to get out and have his teams actually produce enough on the field and compete head to head with Conference member Teams to first equal and then hopefully surpass what Coach Mason accomplished during his ten year tenure. Kill has GOT to actually end the madness and beat the stinking badger. He has got to at least get a lead over the Corn/Blue going into the fourth quarter and then even eventually come from behind in the fourth quarter to beat Maze and Blue in the Big House. He has got to win one from the Buckeye in the Horse Shoe. He needs to defeat MSU a number of times. He needs to win some Bowl Games.

You are simply telling tall-tales now spoofer. Are you afraid that poor old Coach Kill needs your help to "look better?" Shoot: he has at least seven seasons yet to get some wins against the stinking badger, some more wins against that horrible hawkeye and one a piece against the Maize & Blue and the Buckeye. Sure, he needs to step it up against Sparty too.

And, IF the good Coach Jerry manages to do as well as Coach Mason during the next seven seasons, all of you good boosters and the local media and the suits and admin types will fire his butt for not going to the "next level" Yet we diehards will have experienced some great wins and competitive football during that time. And, just MAYBE Kill will string together some good luck, lucky bounces, lightening in the bottle and a miracle catch or two to win my Gophers a championship! (Probably not quite such a string of evens may be in store for this program, but given time anything is possible!)

So, quit spewing falsehoods you old spoofer. Lets just honestly look at the actual results and forget all the spoofin that sometimes happens on these message boards.

And good luck to Coach Kill during these next seven years! Beat the stinking badger and end the madness!

I like Coach Mason as a person and I like Coach Kill as a person too. I think they are both two of the better coaches my Gophers have had In the past 30 to 35 years!

To me, the major difference between the two is Mason coached NOT to lose, Kill coaches TO win.

Now, that may be your opinion, Halsey Hall, but, show me the results. How did that play itself out during the final two games in the Conference in 2013 and then down in Houston the last to years In the two blown lead losses to Tech and Syracuse? I remember some pretty nice come from behind wins during the Mason days, just as well as the loses in which the other team came from behind to beat my Gophers. And, what Is with the three losses to Michigan during the past three seasons by such huge scores? Michigan has been considered to be pretty down for Michigan during that time.

I guess I'm just NOT seeing your point here Halsey.
