Iowa vs. NDSU..... Dilemma, who to root for...???

The average fan has no idea which conference or division Kent State or Jacksonville State play in. Kent State was on ESPN or ESPN2 zero times this year. NDSU was on ESPN twice and ESPN2 twice. I'd also bet the average Minnesota bandwagon fan is much more interested in NDSU than Kent State.

three of those four games were playoff games that would've been on with or without the Bison playing in them, the other one was a week before any FBS schools were playing

The "National Championship" for FCS was also on at 11:30 am on a Saturday on ESPN 2. A PREMIER time slot for such a prestigious game.

The only one that is pre-determined is the championship game. ESPN gets to pick and choose the matchups it wants to show for the semis and quarters. NDSUvsUNI was the only quarterfinal to be broadcast on ESPN, 2 other quarters were only on ESPN3. NDSUvsRichmond was on ESPN2 while the other semi was on ESPNU.

If you're the NDSU AD and got an invite to the MAC you'd have to be afraid of ending up like Kent State with less television coverage, more mid-week lowly attended games and very low-tier bowl games. I assume the finances would still work out in your favor as you get an equal share of the conference bowl revenue, but your teams might be worse for the move.

Congrats on being the skinniest kid at fat camp.

So a move up to real D1 isn't in the cards unless the conference is up to YOUR standards?

Get over yourself. NDSU is a non-story and shall remain that way.

But, but, NDSU should expect an invite from the SEC. Remember, they are above even the B1G and the Big 12

They wouldn't be favored over any varsity in 6A. The only MAC teams that might be favored this year over NDSU would be Toledo and Bowling Green. When you talk about JV leagues, the MAC is definitely a JV league.

Top MAC Ranked Teams
Toledo 37
Bowling Green 53

NDSU 36

Based on what?

The same rankings that show one of their losses was to a team rated 144th overall and their best win was over a team rated 67th. The same rankings that has their strength of schedule at 131st. This same rankings also lists one team in the top 40 who never played a top 30 opponent.

They had a great season once again, and five national championships in a row is very impressive no matter what level it is in my opinion. Congrats to them. Why not just be proud of that? It's impossible to know what they would do playing in the MAC, Big Ten or any other FBS conference.

At the same time, I don't think these ratings mean much of anything when he's comparing teams from two different levels that barely play each other. It's like trying to come up with a combined ratings of D2 and D3 teams.

Yup. Sagarin is really no better than the transitive property when you're trying to compare two completely different leagues with very little crossover.

G.I.I. ... Astute as always...

I am posting this in 2 different threads:

Which fanbase is more obsessed with the Gophers?

Wisconsin or NDSU?

The predictor rankings are a little more accurate as they include margin of victory. Similar to how Massey does it. Under the Sagarin predictor rankings and the Massey rankings NDSU is 47th.

Nearly every major FCS team plays a FBS team. There were 108 matchups in 2014. FCS won 16 of the interdivisional matchups in 2013, 9 wins this year. This isn't guessing how Kentucky would fare against an NBA team. There's a lot of data out there. It's obviously not perfect, you can't claim that since you're 47th and whatever team is 67th that you'd run over them, but you would probably be slight favorites.

I love the idea of scheduling tougher competition for the non-conference but scheduling Buffalo and New Mexico State instead of NDSU, SDSU, UNI, or Illinois State doesn't accomplish that goal.

From my experiences in Fargo many NDSU fans are also Gopher fans as well (to some degree). If you think about it they haven't been D1 very long so as a D2 team fan you probably naturally cheer for the nearest "Big" school, especially if you grew up in the area and didn't attend another D1 school.

However, over the last few years I think many of those fans have just become extreme die hards for the Bison. Absolutely nothing wrong with this.

9Th b1g game and additional p5 does

Based on this thread I would say some Gopher fans are obsessed with NDSU. Let it go. Stop feeding the NDSU trolls

My idea with this thread was that Iowa is a hated B1G rival..... is playing NDSU (many of who's fans like to chirp negatively to Gopher football news articles).... Thus: Would we prefer to see a conference rival take one in the chops, or see one of our peers pound on nearby program who, in my eyes, has an out of reality view of their relevance in the big picture that is big time college football.... Don't take the thread too seriously.

Appreciate the attention Gopher fans. Those of you that pull for us, thanks. Those that don't, I understand. Look, we dominated you every time we faced you and frankly I'd be embarrassed too. When we beat the Hawkeye squad in September I'd hope that your fan base, pathetic as it may be, will finally admit that we do run the Midwest. And what the heck is this 7 time national championship b.s. about? If you didn't win before the modern forward pass was invented, well geez!

The point is App State still had a ton of FCS players. FCS players who had less success against FCS competition. The FBS and FCS are big divisions. There are terrible teams in each. It might make sense to make a rule against playing teams from the Pioneer league, MEAC or SWAC, but it doesn't make sense to avoid scheduling Missouri Valley or other top 20 FCS teams. Especially not if you're still going to schedule the bottom 20 FBS teams.

Through 2014 FBS schools had a record of 2028-423-18 (.824) vs. FCS schools. It makes perfect sense to prohibit scheduling them. NDSU not like the others and is the best of them. So I guess you're a rounding error.

Great post #1.

I hope that it is satirical. If it's not, God help you.

NDSU has beaten some of the Gophers finest teams: the 1-11 2007 team and the 3-9 2011 team.

Lol this guy has given me the laugh of the week. Nssdudu or whatever it is will always be irrelevant. Congrats on beating 2 highschool gopher teams. You will get beat by Iowa and you will get beat bad. Just like if you would ever play the gophers again. You need to lay off the meth, it's bad for you.

You're my favorite. How can you own the Midwest without indoor plumbing?

If by dominating, you mean barely beating two extremely bad teams, then you are correct.

Why would you take the time to join and post a message board of a fan base you think is pathetic? Wouldn't that make you even worse than pathetic?

You guys are even a joke in greater Minnesota. When the State of hockey plays second fiddle to Nodakota, ur effed. We would beat you by 20.
