Iowa vs. NDSU..... Dilemma, who to root for...???

They didn't blow us out in the two years we went a combined 4-20.
Please try not to get in many arguments if this is your point.

Burns says twins were essentially pushed out. Needed good scores on their ACTs and didn't get them. Coupled with wanting to take visits, Minnesota moved on.

I don't know man a January 1st bowl game seems to be nationally prominent, Also I guarantee Minnesota would have more 10+ wins playing your schedule.

What was the name of that bowl? Pretty tough to make it to 1 of the 40 bowl games played every year. I certainly hope Minnesota could get at least 10 wins. This is a BIG 10 team we're talking about. So, is 6-7 a successful season? At least Minnesota sets the bar high. Because of a bowl win? Because of a win against a slightly above average MAC team? Those are certainly things to hang some hats on.

Hey numbnuts, he is talking about the New Year's Day bowl last year.

NDSU would blow out Minnesota this year if they played

I just think it is kinda a bold statement considering they didn't blow us out when we were really, really bad. Our program is certainly in a much better place than it was when we went 1-11 or in Kill's first year.

I'm not making any excuses or anything, we should never lose to FCS teams no matter how good they are.

You realize no one cares about FCS football outside of FCS football fans?

. News travels slowly to the island that is Fargo. Too many of Bison fans don't even know there is a FBS division above this thing called FCS.

I believe HERD thinks B1G got rid of the FCS solely because MN was scared of and wanted an excuse to not play NDSU again. If more power 5 conferences fall B1G lead and stop scheduling FCS, FCS programs will start going defunct. NDSU will probably remain and dominate the tattered remains

Scared is probably too much. Let's just say it's a tougher game with higher stakes than Buffalo or New Mexico State. The rule was to stop Ohio State from scheduling Florida A&M. Pretty low ratings for 75-0 games.

agreed. Problem is there aren't enough good FCS schools to make it worthwhile

But it's also flattering to think that MN is the team that stirs the B1G drink

Should I assume that because Charlotte, Eastern Michigan and NM State suck, that the FBS is a terrible subdivision? Or should I judge the entire FBS by Clemson and Alabama?

You can't paint the FBS with a single brush, you have to judge the individual team. Not playing anyone in FCS while scheduling the bottom 25 in FBS is a laughable proposition.

NDSU has a football team?

^ that's the attitude we should have towards NDSU fyi. I hope they beat the hell out of Iowa

Some DI football perspective. 254 teams, 128 FBS, 126 FCS

Looking at the Lower Ranked FBS Teams . . .
35th from the FBS Bottom Nevada ranked 100th 6 FCS teams ranked higher
30th from the FBS Bottom Georgia State 117th 18 FCS teams ranked higher
25th from the FBS Bottom SMU ranked 128th 24 FCS Teams ranked higher
20th from the FBS Bottom UMASS ranked 138th 29 FCS Teams ranked higher
15th from the FBS Bottom UTSA ranked 153rd 39 FCS Teams ranked higher
10th from the FBS Bottom Miami (OH) 162nd 43 FCS Teams ranked higher
5th from the FBS Bottom NM State ranked 170th 46 FCS Teams ranked higher
Worst FBS Team Charlottle ranked 200th 72 FCS Teams ranked higher

What does this tell us? Who you schedule is more important than just scheduling FBS.

Are those Sagarin rankings?

Nothing because it is impossible to accurately rate two groups of teams that hardly play each other. You seem to think Sagarin rankings are the king of rankings when many people think it sucks.

Fact is wins over lower end FBS teams are generally viewed as better wins than middle of the road FCS teams. Not sure why you are offended by any of this anyways. It's beyond anyone's control here and it isn't going to change.

Just get over it. NDSU is playing in the JV league! Are there some JV teams better than the worst Varsity teams, of course. But that still doesn't changes the fact that they are a JV team!

Not sure you understand the point of a JV team. By definition the JV team is the worse team with the worse players. If my JV team is better than my varsity team, I must have just confused them and given them the wrong jerseys. The MAC scrubs we have on the schedule like Kent State, Ohio and Buffalo would be underdogs home and away to the Bison. The JV team by definition could never be favored.

So Eden Prairie JV would never be favored vs any varsity in the state? And I doubt NDSU would be favored over more than a few MAC teams, but still doubtful.

They wouldn't be favored over any varsity in 6A. The only MAC teams that might be favored this year over NDSU would be Toledo and Bowling Green. When you talk about JV leagues, the MAC is definitely a JV league.

Kent State and buffalo would be underdogs. Ohio had a pretty good program. The top five in the MAC would role in FCS. Toledo went to Arkansas and won. Northern Illinois and Bowling Green were competitive against teams like OSU and Tennessee. if NDSU was in the MAC they would be a middle of pack, which isn't anything to snooze at, that's still good enough to jump up and bite a P5 school in the ass on any given day just not consistently

Ohio lost to Buffalo 41-17. Then they lost their bowl game to App State, who was a mediocre FCS team 2 years ago.

2 years ago? That means nothing! You forget to point out that Appalachian State was 11-2 last year and finished 2nd in the Sun Belt. So, they are a team that likely would have beaten NDSU and been favored over them

The point is App State still had a ton of FCS players. FCS players who had less success against FCS competition. The FBS and FCS are big divisions. There are terrible teams in each. It might make sense to make a rule against playing teams from the Pioneer league, MEAC or SWAC, but it doesn't make sense to avoid scheduling Missouri Valley or other top 20 FCS teams. Especially not if you're still going to schedule the bottom 20 FBS teams.

It's all about perception in my opinion. Other than maybe NDSU because they have been so successful, does your average fan know anything about FCS teams? The perception is a team like Kent St. is better than a Jacksonville St. Most don't have a clue what conference Jacksonville St. plays in. Meanwhile, Kent St. has their games on ESPN just about every week.

The average fan has no idea which conference or division Kent State or Jacksonville State play in. Kent State was on ESPN or ESPN2 zero times this year. NDSU was on ESPN twice and ESPN2 twice. I'd also bet the average Minnesota bandwagon fan is much more interested in NDSU than Kent State.

Let me rephrase that then. There are more college football fans that know what conference Kent St. plays in than Jacksonville St. And my guess is it isn't even close.

Kent State was on ESPN or ESPN2 zero times this year.

You are correct, they played on ESPNU twice. I thought they played more of those mid-week MAC games that are on all the time.

NDSU was on ESPN twice and ESPN2 twice. I'd also bet the average Minnesota bandwagon fan is much more interested in NDSU than Kent State.

That's why I said other than NDSU. They are the exception because they have won so many National Championships. We were also talking about this on a national level, not just Minnesota. The Big Ten said no more playing FCS teams because the perception is that is weaker competition. And many times it is.
