Gophers schedule a home and home with…

Whoever made this decision should be fired. It’s bad enough we play Mississippi State in a few years home and home and will get two blowout losses on the schedule early. Now we have to play not only an SEC school but arguably the best one by far.

It’s bad enough this news comes as we just got embarrassed by Purdue on homecoming and now we are going to get pounded by Illinois and Penn State (especially since it’s their famous white out game). By the time that’s done we will be lucky to win another game the rest of the way, let alone bowl eligibility. Plus lose the bowl game if we even get that far.

Maybe instead of doing crazy stuff like scheduling powerhouse SEC schools we can work on beating the Purdues and Illinois of the world first. Plus work on actually beating our rivals on a consistent basis, especially on the road more often (Iowa and Wisconsin especially come to mind), and make a dent in how lopsided they are (Michigan and Penn State especially come to mind here). Not to mention Nebraska will find their footing and get strong again too.

I’m also not falling for the play the best to be the best, because getting knocked around by Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin, Penn State, etc. for years did nothing to make the program better or get any better recruiting. Stop scheduling ridiculous SEC schools (even schools such as Vanderbilt are good now too) as we have had trouble beating MAC schools and FCS schools and even lost to them. Now you’ve just guaranteed two more non conference losses and being embarrassed on national TV with nothing to gain from it.

who crapped in your cereal this morning?? 😭. In order to be the best, we have to play the best. Keep this same energy in 10 years when we win!

Fun fact:

The only big ten team to be undefeated by Alabama?

MINNESOTA..... *some big ten teams have never played bama but of the teams that have, we are the only one that has always beaten them.....

I'm not going to argue with you, I just feel bad for you. Pretty much every post in your history is something about how we're going to get blown out, we suck, PJ sucks, etc. I can't imagine living that way.

Quit being a pansy ass.

If our coaches thought like you did, we would never get anywhere.

FWIW I doubt this series happens. With the amount of conference changes that will happen between now and then (not to mention coaching changes) one or both the schools will decide to cancel.

Still a cool announcement though!

Did you have that attitude when the Gophers played and defeated Alabama's #1 SEC rival on 1/1/2020?

Minnesota is 3-1 vs the SEC this Century with wins over Arkansas, Alabama & Auburn and a loss to Missouri.

Bring it.

Guessing that with all the talk of a "Major Football Schools" grouping the mandate has gone out to SEC and Big Ten powers that they no longer can count on scheduling 3-4 Non-Conference "gimmes" every season. They're gonna have to schedule at least one crossover Major Conference game a year.

Alabama has gone for it big time.

From the link:

With the addition of Minnesota, Alabama has added 13 home-and-home series to future schedules recently, including: Texas (2022 & 2023), Wisconsin (2024 & 2025), Florida State (2025 & 2026), West Virginia (2026 & 2027), Ohio State (2027 & 2028), Oklahoma State (2028 & 2029), Notre Dame (2029 & 2030), Georgia Tech (2030 & 2031), Boston College (2031 & 2034), Arizona (2032 & 2033) and Virginia Tech (2034 & 2035). The Crimson Tide also has a 2-for-1 home-and-home series with South Florida (2023, 2024 & 2026).

Along with playing at Minnesota in 2032, the Crimson Tide will welcome Arizona to Bryant-Denny Stadium on Sept. 4 to open the season. Oklahoma was also originally scheduled as a non-conference game in 2032 and 2033, but with the addition of the Sooners to the Southeastern Conference, that game was replaced with the Gophers. The Tide will then host UM on Sept. 17, 2033, after traveling to Arizona on Sept. 3 of that year.

ummmm....I hate to say it but I feel like this thread is detracting from the focus we all need to have on the Illinois game this weekend.... :)
Yes! Yes! Very important to not look ahead past Illinois this weekend! PJ needs all GHers to be focused on the next game or the team is doomed!
