Gophers in Lourawls "Tum Tum" Nairn's Final 3 - Decision coming Thursday at 10 AM

“I think just because of the way they came about it,” Nairn said. “Ever since they saw me, I’ve been in contact with them just about every day, coach [Richard] Pitino and assistant coach [Ben] Johnson. It was just consistent. And I felt like they were supposed to be there. It’s all of the assistant coaches, and not even everything about basketball – just random stuff, how am I doing, how was my day, stuff like that.”

This comment really makes me confident. I think we have no problem with OK. More worried about IU and the promise of big time teams.

Why no problem with OK? They successfully recruited his Bahamian bff back in 2012. No reason they can't do it again, especially since Kruger has been recruiting quite a bit longer than Pitino.

Just based off what I have read.....I would be more worried about IU grabbing him. OK is his first visit. Assuming he doesn't commit afterwards, I would put my money on MN and IU.

With my luck, he is going to commit to OK now.......

Is it confirmed whether or not his Oklahoma visit was rescheduled to September 6-8?

Hope you had a frickin good time Tum Tum. With the weather, atmosphere, result, etc... It won't get much better than that!

Ryan Burns tweeted he saw Tum Tum playing bags with current Gopher players. I've got to think we made a very good impression on him last night. I wasn't at the game but I'm sure the atmosphere was great.

What is playing bags?

Great to hear. Hopefully we impressed him enough to remember us when he is visiting OU and Indiana. All we can do is wait for his decision and hope for the best!

hope he comes here but the atmosphere at the game was and is embarrassing compared to other schools with gigantic football crowds.

I won't disagree with the assessment, I just don't think any player of his caliber is making their decision on the football game they attend...if that were the case, Duke would never land a recruit.

I am more interested in how his time with the team and coaches went and whether we had his major or major academic interest, etc.

I don't believe for a second that we will lose a kid because of facilities or football fan support...it is all about relationships, comfort, style of play and for some, education.

Exactly right. Facilities are simply used as a scapegoat to excuse mediocrity or failure. A team clearly cannot have decrepit facilities. Some baseline is required to recruit players, but that baseline is incredibly low. The Gophers pass that with flying colors. While these facilities are nice and luxurious, they cost the students and taxpayers money to maintain, and in some cases build, while seeing little return on investment in recruiting.

Hire coaches who can teach the game, develop players, and recruit high level talent.it is easy to say but hard to do as recruiting is a zero sum game, and finding coaches who can do all three requires a lot of money for guys who have proven they can do it, or some hard work and luck when trying to find the next young coach who can.

Facilities, while nice, are not the panacea. They're closer to a luxurious boondoggle than an effective recruiting tool.
