Gary Anderson is leaving Wisconsin for Oregon State...

This is total thread hijack, but EP splitting doesn't make sense. The district is mostly built out at this point, with a predicted decline in enrollment over the next 15 years or so. They don't want to end up like Hopkins, Roseville, Edina, White Bear Lake, Bloomington etc. where they have a second (or third) high school at peak enrollment only to have to close it and re-consolidate in a few years when enrollment declines. It costs a lot to maintain two high schools. The school that should split is Wayzata.

And I'm not a fan of Mike Grant, as I played for the guy before he went to EP.

Now let's get back to Brew for Bucky or whatever we were talking about….

If they split schools they should also split him in half. He is huge.

Reusse (yes, I know most people here hate him, but he's fairly tuned into things) mentioned on his radio show today that he'd heard much of it was related to increasing academic standards at Wisconsin and an inablilty to get borderline guys into school. That seems a little suspect. While it's fun to hate on Becky, every school in the Big Ten is a great school - if they weren't, they wouldn't be in the Big Ten. I have to believe it's the shadow of Alvarez that drove Blart and now Andersen away and if that's true, it may be very difficult for them to get a decent coach in there.

Or it really could be as simple as Andersen liked living out west, and he and his family missed that part of the country. Once again, it's fun to hate on Madison, but it's not a bad place to live (compare it to Lincoln or Iowa City or a lot of awful places), but if you've ever been to Corvallis, it's an incredibly beautiful part of the country. I could easily see wanting to move out there.

Wisconsin does indeed have higher academic standards for admission than almost all of the Big Ten schools

False. Also false that they don't take juco's (which many people have been saying), as Tanner McEvoy for ex is a juco.

Wisconsin's taken it's share of borderline students just like every other good football program (except maybe Stanford). Obviously the SEC is in a completely different league in that regard, and nobody's saying Wiscy or anyone else in the B1G is close to that. But as long as Alvarez is in the news again, it's worth noting that Wisconsin's rise from about 100 prior years of mostly crap football coincided with Wisconsin's still-mysterious ability to get Brent Moss into school and eligible.

Ummm....the Seniors on the team asked him to coach and he said yes.

That sounds good when Alvarez announces it, but at this point, what other options did they have? Teams are now beginning bowl preparation and their coach just left and nobody knows if any of the assistants will still be around.

Does he get to double-dip his salary again?

All of the assistants are staying through the bowl game according to the press.

badgerdoc. Did you know that it is harder to get into the U than Wisconsin? Must pain you to hear, but it is true

Thank you. I get so tired of hearing that crap from Becky people. Wisconsin and Minnesota are almost identical in admissions profile. Both very good and selective but Wisconsin folks seem to believe they have the most selective school in the world.

If he just wanted to move back West, he probably would've publicly stated that. My money is on something a little juicier than that.

My vote is for Brad Childress with Tim Brewster as Defensive Coordinator. Chili con Chili. Gophers win by 30.

I'm sure there's more to it than that. Alvarez being a horrible micromanager boss is probably the root of it, but lots of things go into peoples' decisions. There's SO much money in coaching now that that some guys might take a lesser job or turn down a bigger job based on things other than money because they're already making so much. Shaka Smart comes to mind, staying at VCU instead of taking the Illinois (or possibly Minnesota) hoops jobs. Same with Chris Petersen who stayed at Boise forever before going to Washington when clearly he was a hot commodity.

And I would very possibly put Jerry Kill in that category today as well.

All of the schools in the Big Ten are great. But the academic administration at UW is notoriously difficult to work with and do not make admissions exceptions like many other schools will make.

This guy seems to think there is in fact something to the argument and there is no doubt that Andersen thought it was the case.

The U of M admin can be extremely difficult to work with as well. We just had a foreign basketball recruit who wasn't admitted right away because his English wasn't good enough. That does not happen most places.

Wisconsin admits 68% of their applicants, we admit only 44%, despite the fact that we have more undergraduates. The test score profile is pretty similar for both schools.

I'm hoping Anderson takes Aranda with him. I doubt that any incoming coach, including Paul Chryst, will bring in a better DC.
