GAME #22: Gophers (15-6, 4-4) v. Northwestern (11-11, 4-5) [BTN, 2/1, 1:00PM)

I mean, I'm not one to overreact, but this really hurts our chances going forward of making the tournament if we don't finish well.

You are going to have a hard time convincing me NU isn't a better team after that meltdown. I don't think they will win another game without Dre. Recruiting has always, always been an issue at the U and games like this display that in ugly, bizarre fashion. No depth. This team is terrible, and I mean TERRIBLE without Dre. But that's fine, let's go grab another 3 star recruit

See that little red x in the top right of the browser? Just go ahead and click that now before this turns into a bring back Tubby argument. If you don't enjoy following this team, then STOP!

Two easy foul calls missed at the end but either way that was an embarrassing loss and shouldn't have even come down to that. We play just average on offense, we probably win by 15. Take away half the awful 3-point shot attempts and easy lay-ups we missed, and we probably shoot 60%.

Not attacking Crawford at all with 2 fouls in the first half is mind boggling to me.

Just 14 combined free throw attempts and 27 fouls. The refs this season are about as consistent as Trevor Ploufe.

This one will be tough to overcome.

Really Dumb

That was an embarashment to the institution these boys attend and to the State that institution is located in, CANNOT LOSE TO NORTHWESTERN at home Dre or no Dre ****in bull****

Step away from the keyboard and stay away from any sharp objects.

So me starting the thread of Keelon Brookins decommiting and Nate Mason committing is evidence I don't post here any other time?

Remember when your first post of the MSU game was when it looked like we were going to lose. You were bitching and complaining as Mathieu hit the shot to go in to over time. You only come to the board when it looks like it's a loss and you declare the season over. Where were you after the big Wisconsin win? The Ohio State win?

Please don't complain. They let them play, stayed consistent until the end.

You can't swallow your whistle when there's two clear fouls at the end of the game. What's the point of having refs if you're gonna let that go.

Yes....a win against Wisconsin and a couple CLOSE losses against Neb and NW seal your case. You should probably let the current #3 team in the nation (Florida) that they belong in the CBI.

Ugly and embarrassing loss at home that we probably couldn't afford to happen. Hate the way Northwestern plays but if they can get away with it why not I guess. I don't know if the officials were trying to get on Crawford's dads good side or what but they sure let Northwestern do a lot. Aside from the horrible no calls on the last sequence of plays where there were probably at least 3 that should have been called they let Northwestern get away with a lot of holding and hacking all game long. Lumpkin should have had about 9 fouls but somehow didn't even foul out, I think he hit at least 3 or 4 guys in the face and the one was after McNeil was already running back down the floor to play defense. Shouldn't have been in a position where the refs can influence the game like they did in that last sequence but if we end up just missing the tournament I think a lot of blame will go on those 3 guys. Similar to the first time we played Purdue it will be another very important game for our tourney hopes on Wednesday night.

Northwestern is playing like a typical Wisconsin team. I hate those types of teams.

many times those calls aren't made at the end of a game. Walker had a great look and didn't get it done regardless of the contact.

You're essentially contradicting yourself in this post. You say NU is a better team than us, and then say recruiting is a big issue. NU is made up of lower rated players than the Gophers.

Without Dre, this team just can't score very well. Really disappointed in Austin.. he's had a bad Senior year so far. I think it's time to try playing both Mo and Elliot at the same time. If anything at all, Mo would be playing more than Elliot. Smith was off today... Little Dre needs to quit driving into trees. Boy... do we need Dre back.......

Really needed Smith to have his hot game today (actually, just any typical game from him would have done), instead he wasted it all in the loss at Nebraska. At some point, I'd like to see the following:

(1) Opposing teams don't hit every important shot they take and stop hitting abnormal % of 3s.
(2) Referees actually give the Gophers an advantage in a B1G game, particularly at home. If they're going to absorb anti-Gopher reffing on the road, then can't they at least gain some back at home? How Crawford didn't have his 4th foul with 6 mins. to go, I'll never know. I saw him with 2 in the first half, and two in the second half. Somehow, the refs gave him the star treatment and conveniently gave at least one of his called fouls to someone else. Nice. Lumpkin was all over the place hacking and hardly got a foul called.

Go back and check the thread...I was posting during the first half buddy. Where was I for the Wisconsin and Ohio State wins? I was burying my best friend who past away from cancer leaving behind two young kids and wife. Sometimes some things are more important than basketball

We probably win the last two games if Dre Hollins didn't get hurt. Unfortunately his injury might be the difference this year in making the tournament. Sh*t happens. It just sucks it was a little Badger d*uche who took Dre out.

You mean getting more than their share of calls and somehow getting the opposition to miss all of their open looks? That Wisconsin?

You're an embarrassment to Gopherhole.

Would "rarely" be a better word then? And you can't deny that. Anyone can look back at your post history.

Really bad loss after a week to prep, time to get it back on track.

I'm sorry about the loss.....that really sucks.........but that really took place over the course of two games?.......six days apart?

Not true. Eliason got called for the foul on Cobb near the end at quite the important juncture of the game. Indeed that was a foul too, but you can't call it on one end and then not call it at the other too, especially when one was given with the game on the line and then the other not.

That may be. But many close B1G games are won when they get a key call at home. Whatever happened the first 59:50 we still got screwed, and it was against NW for god sake. Every other team in the B1G gets that call.

I've been thinking that for about 10 days now. I don't think most people were.

I would say missing 3 out of 4 free throws in the last 4 minutes is where the Gophers screwed themselves.

I can't read lips but I think Coach Pitino thought the call should have been made.
