GAME #22: Gophers (15-6, 4-4) v. Northwestern (11-11, 4-5) [BTN, 2/1, 1:00PM)

I don't know - NW had more answers -all-game-long- than we had. W/O Dre this game was a toss-up in my mind. Thought playing at Williams would help pull this game out - it didn't. Let's move on.

I've been thinking that for about 10 days now. I don't think most people were.

The gophers need to keep working hard. We can get dre back and make a run at the dance. Northwestern played a good game and hit big shots. We are still in this, they will take 6 BIG teams, we need to beat out IU, I'LL and Purdue.

What was wrong with my post?

You say we can't be successful recruiting just 3 star recruits while also saying NU is a better team even though they are made up of lower rated players.

Why bother arguing with that guy? Not worth it. Logic is not his friend.

I can't read lips but I think Coach Pitino thought the call should have been made.

should a call have been made? I don't know. yes, it generally seems the home team would get that call but not every time. team didn't get it today.

can point to a lot things for the loss today that go way beyond the last 10 seconds.

Yeah the Gophers missed a lot of opportunities but the point is they should have had 2 foul shots and a chance to win or tie the game at the line. There is always a lot of things you can point too when you lose a close game but when it comes down to a last second shot and there is a couple calls to be made and the refs who were horrible for the Gophers all game long don't make it they deserve a lot of blame. Still can't believe we can't even get a few calls at home against Northwestern.

These guys have been fighters all year so I expect them to come back strong at Purdue. Hopefully Andre can go. Time to go jog and forget about this one but as always GO GOPHERS!

Please tell me the last time that the Gophers' basketball team got a call they deserved at the end of the game. NU got one just today (Eliason on Cobb). The U? Nah. See this is the problem.

But this is nothing new to MN sports. The Vikings get a favorable call at home in against Atlanta in Jan. of 1999? Nah. The Saints get a favorable call at home against the Vikings in Jan. of 2010? Yeah - at least 3 in OT alone, and a few more before that as well. The Gophers get an And-1 at MSU this year to end the game? Nah. MSU and Cleaves get a bunch of nice calls against the Gophers back in the Monson and Clem days? Yeah. Joe Mauer hit a double over a foot inside the LF line at Yankee Stadium at the end of a close playoff game? "Foul ball." Charging call against Courtney James at a critical juncture of the FF game against Kentucky? You bet. A series of questionable calls to try to give Indiana the BTT game, subsequently won by Hoffarber? Of course. Wait to set the ball with stopped clock for the Purdue FG team can get on the field w/o a timeout to try a 52-yd FG to tie the game at the Dome? The list goes on and on. At some point, where is a Minnesota teams' fair shake?

The last bad call in a Minnesota teams' favor in any important game that I can recall, was when Hrbek helped lift Ron Gant off of 1st base in the 1991 WS.

Worst officials in college basketball. This is what happens when doctor's, lawyers, CPA's, etc take up officiating. .
I would bet 75 % of them have never played the game beyond HS. If I'm coach Pitino I figure they either give or take away 10-12 points a game. It is absolutely pathetic. The students should have been zinging cups of ice at them after the game.

I can't name specifics right now, but I can remember multiple time when we've had free throws to tie up a game with seconds left...

understand NW playing pretty good right now but if you are a legit tourney team you shouldn't need to look for calls from the refs in your favor to win this game.

everyone knows there is a conspiracy against all Minnesota teams. they don't even try and hide it.

I definitely agree we shouldn't have ever been in that position and I'm sure a lot of fans do but we were in that position and it happened and should have been called.

Right, because legit Tourney teams like Wisconsin didn't struggle against NU. At least in Wisconsin's case it didn't come down to them not getting the calls they deserved. You know damn well at least one foul is called at the end if the Gophers were actually wearing white and red and playing at Kohl Center.

I would say missing 3 out of 4 free throws in the last 4 minutes is where the Gophers screwed themselves.

They scored off a rebound on of them. Sorry, I'm all for mocking GW, but going 5-9 in this case did not lose this game.

Deep breath and look how much better we are than most "experts" expected. It's the B1G...top to bottom, the best conference in the country. I'm so pumped with the direction this is heading. The last 2 games prove we are not very deep and we need our leading scorer. Ski-U-Mah

We can blame the refs if we want, but the Gopher players and the Gopher coach don't control the ref. They do control what they do. We lost by one point, and there were lots of mistakes that the Gophers can control which would have made up that deficit.

Go Gophers!!

Hey Drew Crawford and Tre Demps, the two ugliest people in the world just called, they want their faces back

Thanks.

Yep, end of the day what got NW the win is they shot the ball better than Minnesota. 52.2% to 49.0% eFG%. They made 3FG's, Gophers did not.

Just got home from the game and quickly skimmed the last few pages.

That game came down to a flat team for stretches of the game. And a lot of easy misses long before the missed late free throws and non-call at the end.

any post player other than walker and that is a tip-in, or catch-and-layin..
why he came down with the ball is beyond me..
its the little things like these... plus all the missed bunnies.

Two years ago Austin Hollins got a foul called on Myers Leonard as we were down three to get the and-1 and tie the game.

Great game by Mo. But plain and simple, ya' gotta' make that shot, especially when you're that big and that close. Refs didn't decide this game in any way, shape, or form. Too many missed bunnies and free throws down the stretch.

do you honestly expect them to call that, that late in the game? more times then not there isn't going to be a foul call in the last shot of the game

Exactly.

The boys played as well as they can against Wisky with no Andre. We probably win the last two games if we had him. I'm just hoping Andre's injury isn't the difference in us making the dance. We might need a run in the BTT.

SSDD - Mediocre teams lose in excruciating ways and without Dre, we are mediocre.
