Look, I get the reality of the situation. Maybe the Gophers go in the tank and lose the rest of their games and look horrific every single week. But none of us know that that will happen. And Kansas should remind us that CFB teams often look drastically different from week to week. Teams improve or get worse all the time.

Why can't everyone support the team and see how the whole season plays out before talking about drastic change.

Because we do support our team, the football program and the University. This is year 50 of bad football, never contending for the Big Ten title and unfulfilled promises and expectations. Many of us feel that half a century of supporting this level of futility need to end. That much tarnish on our memories of the U becomes intolerable. With a major change to the conference looming next year we do not want the cement of ineptitude to harden around this school's football program.

To all of you who go to work tomorrow and made a mistake last week or tomorrow I hope your fellow employees want you to get fired!

Coach Brewster is not going anywhere until after the season is over. Isn't he responsible for the overall program and the OC and DC responsible for their sides of the ball during the game? I am as frustrated as much as anyone else but it is too early in the season to throw in the towel. If we played usd ten times we would beat them 9 times. We have a young defense which will improve and next week we get at least one and maybe 2 experienced safeties back. I hope all you fair weather fans who don't want to get behind the team and staff find something else to do on Saturdays.

If I took a .500 team and brought them to 1-11, lost to two D1 FCS teams, almost lost to a third, had been outcoached nearly every game, claimed to be bringing the team to a Rose Bowl sooner than later, claimed to be a great recruiter yet had two consecutive bottom half of the Big Ten classes, I probably deserve to be fired. It's not just about this game. It's about the sum of his tenure here. Name anything he's done that has earned him an opportunity to keep his job. We've all made mistakes at work. But most of us over all have way more positives than negatives. In 3+ years what are his positives? What has he accomplished?

And just because we want to hold Brewster accountable for the expectations that he set doesn't mean we're not behind the team. I want him gone BECAUSE I support the team and I believe the team will not go forward with him at the helm.

After letting this simmer for a day, and although I am still bitter about yesterday's result, I cannot say I am ready to throw-in the towel on Brewster. My reasoning is two-fold: 1) I am not at all excited about suffering through another regime change and all that comes with it (i.e. installing a new system, waiting for the new coach's recruits to red-shirt, develop, etc.). The alternative is to hold onto the glimmer of hope that Brew does have this thing pointed in the right direction and the program is closer to being a factor (success next year) than if we started from scratch again (earliest success circa 2014); and 2) I do think Brew is a good recruiter and has improved the talent level, and it's a matter of that talent being "coached up". Let's see how the year plays out and how the young guys develop, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.

Hope is not a strategy!!!!!!

tap: for a $1 million check to leave, I'd walk away from Hubbardville. Can support the program w/o supporting the head coach. Since when do those two go hand-in-hand?

I'm tired of hearing about how firing Brewster would be terrible right now, and the whole interim BS... blah blah blah. Maturi once said (and all AD would agree) that there is always... always a list of replacements ready for this type of situation. It's time to start working from the top of said list.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't Maturi who said that. As I recall, when he finally fired Mason, one of the problems we had was that Maturi didn't know what to do next, hired his search firm and ended up here.

If anyone gets fired before the end of the season, it should be Maturi. Given he's a nice guy, I'm fine if we let him retire earlier than he is planning on, so we have someone in place by the end of the season to make the next hire -- quickly, professionally, and let's move on.

Sid, as always supported the current coach on Sports Huddle. He said that winning at Minnesota has nothing to do with the coach, there are other factors, okay that is true but:

Support of the administration, not a factor anymore, they have top facilities, new stadium, etc.

Hard to recruit at Minnesota, perhaps. Because of the recruiting base they are always going to struggle against Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State. I can agree with that. But South Dakota, North Dakota State. Hard to maintain that argument.

What about Wisconsin, they are the only game in town. Come on, they compete with the Packers just as much as Minnesota competes with the Vikings, that argument doesn't hold.

If anyone can give me an argument why Wisconsin will always be better I will listen. I do not believe there is one.

Give him time, it took Alvarez fours years etc. Guess what it is year four and we are heading to a 2-10/3-9 season.

A successfull season now might be 4-8. Is that enough for Brewster to keep his job.

One of the worst losses in recent history - worse than the NDSU game in my opinion. Today we set the program back at least 5 years. Time to hire Bob Neilson from UMD!

Just because he beats up on the Huskies and the rest of the NSIC every year doesn't make him Big 10 worthy.

doogie,

I believe with the new contract the buyout is $200,000. I thought you would know that, but then you did work for kfan before and that probably clouds you're knowing the facts.

I would also like to know the buy-out...

Also, if anybody can find the contract extension paperwork on the web, I'd love to read it. I've got his first contract posted at www.burybrewster.com

Under the old deal he made $400,000 in base... $400,000 in "supplemental", and $200,000 into a retirement account annually. (Loaded with tons of performance perks as well). Buyout on his first deal was $400k, but I remember it being lowered.

Three letters:

F.A.U.

If you saw that, you were scared.

Or happy, as the case may be.

I would have like to see him get 4 full years of recruiting. IIRC he wasnt hired early in the first recruiting year so that shouldnt count against him. That said he took a .500 team to 1-11, then were back to struggling to be 6-6. But that shouldnt mean losing twice to subdivision teams. Changing coordinators often isnt a good sign either. If we make progress in the 'trophy games' then I can be convinced for one more. Another blowout and its time to try again after the season.

tap: That was more used as a general figure... a figure to signify that he will be taken care of if he's let go... sorry for not fact-checking every single line I type on a message board.

I could be wrong but I thought if Brewster would be fired after this year the U had a 400,000 dollar buy out. If they fire him after next year it's 200,000. I could be wrong but I thought his buyout was lowered by 200,000 every year.

I guess 59 people don't watch gophers football 2007 1-11, 2008 7-6 2009 6-7; 0 rivalry wins 15-25 career record if you want still want him around after this year you are not a fan

Do me a favor. Mix in a period every once in a while, you know, just to change it up a little.

Get Brewster out the door NOW and have him take Weber with him, since Weber has been a big part of the problem for 4 years. Sid says it's a lack of money which lost the SD game. Well, I think we have more dough than the Cayotes do. Maturi spends so much time with women's golf and women's soccer and god knows what, he doesn't have time to hire a decent football coach. So get his butt out the door tomorrow.

The whole Firing Brew now thing aside.. Why in the hell would you say to get rid of Weber? He's not Montana or anything, but he's far from the worst QB we've seen in a Gopher uniform. According to our record books, he's actually the BEST QB that's put on the maroon and gold. Yes, that's because we have never been known as a school that pumps out pro QBs.. But having a Minnesota record holding QB in our midst is better than not having one. Also, apparently this season is already done and over with. That being the case, why not just let Weber play out the season? It's already a wash, right?

You anti-Weber guys crack me up. Because Grey or Alipate are SOOOO much better, right?

The people who want to pin this on Weber saw only what they wanted to see. He completed 2/3 of his passes, and there were a significant number of drops. I didn't see a lot of really bad passes from Weber.

Weber may very well be the best QB on the team. But I have watched him in practice, and I have seen every one of his games, and there is no other way to say it. Weber is a terrible passer who has progressed very little since his first season starting for the Gophers. Furthermore, in my opinion, Weber has played in very few games in his three plus seasons for the Gophers when he wasn't the second best QB on the field.

amen, brother.

Weber has had maybe one or two good games. MSU last year comes to mind. But in 2 games this year he was been far below our opponent's qb. The two of them had combined varsity experience of two games when we played them. Weber has, what? 44 games? The only reason he's the best qb is because his idiot coach has played him for 4 years. You think he's better than Sandy Stephens? Give me a break. You think he's better than Foggie. What a joke. He's a stumbling, fumbling, lousy passer. I saw him in high school and was not impressed. Still am not.

Maybe Formo is on to something here. One could assume that Gray and Alipate must be worse or they'd be starting, or possibly Brew is a moron, but I digress. And maybe it would be a REALLY bad idea to let Punky and his staff start coaching any of the quarterbacks the new coach will be depending on next year. Let's keep anyone with talent frmo being ruined by Brew...
