Firing Brewster, hereafter referred to as DMW (DeadManWalking), shouldn't happen until the end of the season. The football interim-coach (and who would that be anyway, Cosgrove?) thing won't accomplish anything and just puts the administration in a bad light. It is already painfully obvious to all interested future coaches that DMW will most likely be gone the day after the Iowa game. Might even be officially announced the week before the game. Young hungry coaches know which spots are most likely going to open up and plan accordingly.

We have a brand new stadium.
We are a Big 10 team.
DMW has brought in talent (he just can't coach at this level).
We will get very good candidates for the head coaching job.

I'm tired of hearing about how firing Brewster would be terrible right now, and the whole interim BS... blah blah blah. Maturi once said (and all AD would agree) that there is always... always a list of replacements ready for this type of situation. It's time to start working from the top of said list.

No one is coming in and taking control mid season.

I doubt many on that alleged list will come at all.

Flailing about mid-season almost certainly means somebody of dubious quality nobody has heard of.

Anybody who mentions Dungy is an idiot. The man doesn't have the drive to be a college recruiter, and he doesn't have to as a happily semi-retired man.

Tony Dungy is not coming. Mike Leach would be a huge liability for the U. If there's a silver lining here it's that it should be obvious by the end of the season if Brewster is staying or going and Maturi should be able to start looking for a coach in November instead of January. That's a huge plus for a school like MN. But if Brewster turns things around, it's going to complicate things a lot. If he pulls out a Kansas-type scenario next week (lost to NDSU last week, then beat #15 Georgia Tech this week) people are going to forget about this game despite the fact that it shows his inability to close games.

I'd also like to point out that Reusse wrote about the fact that MN fans don't care about the Gophers and someone used a poll about Brett Favre that received 5,000 votes as a measuring stick. There are now 10,000 votes in a poll about firing Brewster. http://www.startribune.com/polls/102694859.html?save= Vote &oid=2&mr=1&cid=8500397&pid=102694859

It is time to try something new

Like firing an ineffective coach in the middle of the season.

My wife is even willing to wear a Brewster shirt to see that he is no longer with the team.

(She has a pretty strong track record of getting a player's jersey or T-shirt with name and number only to have that player gone from the team. In the past, it has been people she liked. She is willing to give it a shot with this coach.)

He is in the Second of "Two more Years" with me.

Give Brew 1more year!

He is in the Second of "Two more Years" with me. He has only as much time as the administration is willing to give him. For me, that is 2-3 games remaining this season. It is short impactful test.

If the gophers finish the year as they were predicted by the media (which I thought was complete BS now but somehow they were right) than I will boycott gopher football until he is gone. This is unbelievable. We were out-coached by a team we were expected to win by 30+. It's not hard to get a coach who can get his team prepared to play on saturdays. He truly has set the program back by at least 5 years right now and if something isn't done soon this could ruin the program to the cellar for good. No joke. I'm done with him.

I'm the idiot who called this game loser-proof after chatting w/ Mick Garry of the Argus Leader... and someone w/in the team. If he has two losses to Dakota schools in 4-years, enough is enough.

The blind sportswriter speaks...everyone bow down and listen to the wisdom of a man who couldn't tell a cover 2 from a cover 3 from a zone read. Now is NOT the time to can Brew. There is a whole season ahead, and in CFB, teams often look drastically different from week to week. Look at Kansas losing to NDSU last week and beating #15 GT this week.

Bottom line, until you learn something about CFB don't call for drastic changes in the program. The ignorant yahoos on this board will do that, but a professional should realize his own limitations and act in a rational manner.

So, act like a pro. Call me back with your opinion when you figure out the difference between an inside and outside zone.

Says the guy who made the following post last week:

"45-7 Gophers. I think the D really dominates in this one and SD only scores a cheap one late against the 2nd team."

+1.

This team is the WORST coached team in all of FBS.

Why does everyone fail to mention that if MTS wouldn't have had such a pathetic defensive line that they would have easily put up thirty or probably forty against us if they had the ball longer than a paltry 15 minutes. Add in Dwight Dasher and we probably would have lost by 20+. Biggest joke of a team I have ever been involved with.

Wishfull thinking but there is nothing to suggest anything like that is going to happen. If you look at the historical trends under Brewster this team is going to end up 3-9.

I don't have the authority to fire coaches so I try not to pretend this post makes a difference.

Ole Miss, Kansas, and Va Tech must all be the worst coached teams in CFB too, since they each have a loss as bad as Minnesota's.

MV predicted the same roughly as I did, and he's forgotten more about CFB than you or I will ever know.

Year after year of showing why he was never a Head Coach at any other point in his life I don't understand what goes through the minds of the people who *STILL* want to keep Brewster?

What are his positives? Recruits? Nope...

MV predicted the same roughly as I did, and he's forgotten more about CFB than you or I will ever know.

But MV, unlike you, probably isn't on a message board telling other people how stupid they are.

I'm just trying to convince people to be reasonable and not overreact. I was hard on Doogie, because, as a member of the press, he should be held to a higher standard than your average internet message board poster.

I fully expect people to go after me, but sometimes that's the price you pay for being reasonable when the masses are largely being unreasonable.

Well, you can't fire a guy for just one loss, but if the next 1-2 games indicate a team that has lost hope, I think you can him immediately and let an interim coach re-focus. Not because 2 or 3 losses warrant firing, but because if it becomes clear he's gone anyway, there's just no reason to put it off. I once worked at a place where the CEO announced his resignation 9 months before he actually left. Once he and everyone else knew he was gone, it was basically a disaster. A rudderless ship just drifting around for 9 months. If it becomes clear the season is just circling the drain, don't wait to can him.

We just lost to USD..the game was humiliating.... Go to the Wiscky and Iowa Boards and see what they are saying about us. Time for a new Coach.

I will never go to a pigeye or skunk board for any reason, and I couldn't care less what they think about us. If you are worried about the opinions of those trolls then you are putting your energy in the wrong place.

You are the biggest appeaser and excuse maker of anyone on this board...face it we need a new guy...you cant lose to USD and survive it.

Look, I get the reality of the situation. Maybe the Gophers go in the tank and lose the rest of their games and look horrific every single week. But none of us know that that will happen. And Kansas should remind us that CFB teams often look drastically different from week to week. Teams improve or get worse all the time.

Why can't everyone support the team and see how the whole season plays out before talking about drastic change.

Is it possible that you're being unreasonable and the masses are being reasonable? The insane person probably believes those who can't hear the voices are insane, after all.

I support the team I just realize that this coach is not the answer. Unfortunately, he is at the level of Wacker. Look, we got rid of Mason, a guy that beat Iowa, Wisconsin, Penn State (numerous times), Ohio State and Michigan and replaced him with a guy who can't beat USD. Do you understand? We have downgraded instead of upgraded.

Fire him now.

I know a former player from the Brewster era, and if anything he told me about this guy is true, Brew should be fired now. He will absolutely abuse the players for losing this game. While he publicly took the blame, behind closed doors he will lay the blame squarely on his players. Frankly, he could ruin some of these players and/or get them to quit before the season is done.

IMHO there is nothing gained with keeping him for the rest of the year. He has been outcoached by three division 1 FCS coaches (how we beat SDSU last year I still don't know). He has proven he can't prepare a team for a basic high school offense/defense. The sooner we fire him, the sooner we can start approaching other coaches and gauging their interest. Obviously we have to ask Dungy (who will say no, but you got to ask). One I wonder about is Brian Billick. He still lives in the cities, is a Superbowl winning coach, but during one of his broadcasts he was going on and on about how much he misses college coaching. Also, he inadvertently called one of the teams the Gophers. I'd love to see him in maroon and gold on the sidelines!!!

For interim coach promote Horton or Cosgrove. Not saying they will be better than Brew but less toxic.
