I'm the idiot who called this game loser-proof after chatting w/ Mick Garry of the Argus Leader... and someone w/in the team. If he has two losses to Dakota schools in 4-years, enough is enough.

Agreed.

It's not that he has two losses against Dakota schools, it's that he's BELOW .500 against Dakota schools. In a FOUR YEAR RUN.

We need to fire Maturi before Brewster - otherwise Maturi will just hire another stiff.

He'll be done at the end of the year. My guess is we'll win against Northern Illinois and finish winless in the Big 10 unless something changes.

I've always liked Brewster and have wanted him to succeed, but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. He hasn't been blessed with the best luck, but he's made his share of bad decisions and hires.

It's simply inevitable, it doesn't matter what we think here. Fans are going to stop showing up for games, if he's still here season tickets will plummet. A new coach presses the reset button. Maybe we could hire USD's coach, or NDSU's coach or SDSU's coach. I think any big name coach who would be willing to come here would likely be washed up. We need someone who has head coaching experience, and knows how to coach the basics and to get the most out of talent.

Remember, Brewster didn't hire Brewster. Maturi made a long shot bet. This was either going to be a home run or a strikeout. Brewster is doing the very best he can. But it is now painfully clear his best is not going to cut it.

Unfortunately, replacing Maturi (and Brewster) probably won't be the answer. The foundational problem is an administration that is bitter about the reality of big time college athletics. For these folks, it simply isn't right that a top Division 1A football coach is paid more than the University President. Somehow this violates our Scandinavian ethos of what's fair and right. And let's be realistic here, if the U were paying a football coach north of $2.5 million (salary & bonus) a whole lot of folks in Minnesota would be screaming about how wrong this is. Unfortunately, this is just the way it is.

They were one of my "W" predictions but after today I just don't know anymore...NIU is Pass Heavy & our D looks Mason-ish...

Where do I sign up for the 'Fire Tim Brewster Website"? Losing to South Dakota who lost to Central Florida (a conference USA school 37-7 last week) is unacceptable. I am embarrassed.... At least Glen Mason beat the teams we were supposed to beat pretty easily and then would beat a team or two we shouldn't beat....Well when Jim Wacker recruited me he had plenty of enthusiasm but sucked... he'd go on randy shaver sports extra and laugh a 50pt loss off.... Mason would at least win games although he would sit and watch a 'prevent yourself from winning d...efense' and lose after having a big lead against teams like Michigan, Ole Miss and Texas Tech.... Brewster gave us a hope at big recruiting because of his Mack Brown and NFL ties... So what if he was the TE coach for Antonio Gates or other guys.... We have a new stadium, great. We can't keep guys in the state of MN, and now we are losing to teams who have no business being on the same field with us.... Time for something else....Just glad I'm in S. Fla to watch other teams, but I'm embarrassed for my team. Getting 4 star guys is great but if the two we have are back up QBs who sit on the sideline watching a mediocre at best Weber through isn't a good message to other four or five star recruits... Trust me on this... I have watched and coached big name players in south florida and they aren't coming to the U and and why would MN guys stay???? Time to get someone in to make things work...

This is exactly on the money, and it's why things will never change at the U as long as Bruininks is in charge. They just don't care.

Done. Worst loss in Gopher history. I backed this &$@/&$@ for far too long. Salt in the wound on top of the loss was not giving Hoese a chance either time at the stripe.

Oh, and our President (and those who came before) did a wonderful job of securing top tier funding from the state. Especially when fiscal conservatives were in charge. They also ignored or neglected things that would have made alumni donors proud, like revenue-generating athletics, putting their and subsequent administrations in a tighter fiscal bind. If we pay a man $5 million per year and he generates $100 million per year in additional revenue, then the fools are those who turn him away not those who pay him.

spot on

We need an up and comer who wants to be here.

Today? Of course not, that's just silly.

End of year? Of course, barring wins overs USC, Wisconsin AND Iowa....not just one of them, all three. Just winning against decent teams will not be enough now, he's gotta come up with a few dandies to undo the damage done today and stick around beyond the year.

No, today. We have Fifty-plus years of believing that good things come to those who wait and we have nearly starved the football program to death. Make a statement "We support the Football program" and then stand behind it.

I'd just rather wait until I can actually replace the coach, not just do this interim coach crap. The day after the Iowa game, you move quickly, you should have already sent out feelers to get a coach here pretty quickly, and hopefully, limit transfers and keep the current recruits still on board. I just don't wanna deal with an interim setup.

But then again, the interim setup worked pretty well for the basketball squad, but I'm not sure that really had anything to do with Tubby coming here. So I guess I'm more open to it than I originally thought lol.

I think that Brewster knows he's out the door. I don't want that attitude poisoning the players during the rest of this season. An interim coach can refocus the players on the season at hand, better than a clock/noose-watching coach ever would.

Valid points, I can definitely see benefits, of course, assuming Brewster is approaching it that way. In any event, whoever is the coach has got a heck of a job to do repairing some psyches in that locker room.

My vote is for Mike Leach. I can look past the "locking a WR in the shed" incident because his teams won. Bring in Leach let him lock Brewster in a shed.

I voted no. I think you need to wait until the end of the year. What if he wins 5 straight now...

I agree. Nothing gained by canning him now.

He either has a breakthrough year...5-3 or 6-2 in Big Ten play...or it is over. And we move on....he can hrdly quarrel.

Just say no to Leach!!

Give Brew 1more year!

I heard there was an opening as a ladies washroom attendent for the Packers. Brew would fit in nicely with those lunatics.

Most of you on this thread are idiots, but Brew is almost done. Not yet but close.
