Fire Ben Johnson

UU decided that four years without a NCAA berth is all they needed to see. Objectively, someone like Smith should actually get more grace than someone like Johnson because of his prior track record of success that you refer to. It's reasonable to wonder whether he still might have been able to make it happen there, but the clock ran out on him.

If anyone has an explanation why it's not happening at Utah while BYU and Utah State do well, I'd like to hear it. Smith himself had USU in the top 15 a few years ago.

Obviously, the money to pay players isn't what it is at BYU. Is that the only thing? Is USU flush with money by comparison? Has Smith done a poor job inspiring donations and fundraising, or is that an institutional problem? These questions are pertinent to Minnesota. Replacing Johnson isn't a total solution if the U admin is dropping the ball otherwise. I see Utah as similar to Minnesota: big city, high enrollment, plenty of wealthy alumni, but it ain't happening NIL-wise.

I'd love to sit down with Smith and pick his brain about this. He's a thoughtful guy and would certainly have a lot of insights.
With Smith, he might have gotten "lucky" with a player or two at Utah State like Queta (not sure how he got him) and that propelled him to success there?

As long as we fire Johnson then I would say our standards are very similar to Utah's. Reading the ESPN story you could basically use it as a template for the story when Johnson is fired. Couple nice wins this year, no NCAA tournaments.....lot of similarities in the two situations.
They fired him earlier, and every day that goes by confirms my original statement.

Built him in his basement? We need some out-of-the-box thinking here.

Firing has felt inevitable for a while.....after back to back home loses to 2 of the worst teams in the Big Ten there really is no reason to hold off any longer. May as well just make it official now.
LOL.
A week ago you were scoffing at the idea and scolding anyone who suggested it.
