Yapping about how badly Tubby was treated by the U. 'He was brought in the clean up the mess from the cheating scandal and produce a winner, and he did both.'

'The U finally hired it's fourth or fifth pick and just because of his name.'

This guy is such a bozo. Why does Almanac keep having him on?

Ha... sorry Dan Monson. Your tenure never happened.

As I recall, he thought Sidney Lowe got a raw deal, too. Common thread?

He's one of the self-appointed leaders of the African American community ready to always call out the man . For someone who cries "racism" a lot, the guy sure seems to dislike whites in general. One of the hurdles to overcome for the U in recruiting inner city kids, IMO. Just a natural for Almanac.

Leslie Frazier was also fired for being black, according to Fitzgerald.

....Minnesota nice sooner or later catches up with you in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. In baseball, the Twins gave longtime Manager Ron Gardenhire a two-year contract extension after his team lost 97 games. In fact, his team has lost 95 games or more three years in a row. Yet Gardenhire, who is white, is given the benefit of the doubt and the Minnesota’s community is okay with it.

Frazier, who is black, on the other hand is fired. It’s the most unsettling thing about Minnesota. Go back to Gopher basketball last year: Tubby Smith is fired after beating UCLA in the NCAA tournament when the Gophers have rarely qualified for the NCAA in the school’s 100-year history....

I liked him better when he was still a Vikings ball boy

Maybe because there's a contract involved? Send your thoughts to Almanac.

No one is satisfied with Gardenhire being back.

If Les Frazier had 6 division titles, he wouldn't have been fired. And the Twins are an infinitely patient organization. The Vikings are the opposite. Nothing to do with race. Give me a break.

Almanac is where you can see Paul Douglas, Larry Fitzgerald, the same 4 political science teachers and the same 4 political has-beens EVERY FREAKIN' WEEK! Arrgghh. Apparently these guys don't know what a Rolodex is.

I've never heard of Almanac either. I doubt I'll be tuning in any time soon.

I was one of his landscapers for 4 or 5 years in HS and college... Easily one of the nicest people I've ever met. He would come and talk to me and my brother all the time, joke, etc... So maybe we should hold off on the "dislike white" stuff as I am white.

And Tubby did all of that for free right. It not like he was the highest paid state employee or anything.

I don't think the response to this article is called for. Larry Fitzgerald is a class act, and I don't feel at all comfortable shouting down and whitesplaining at him. I do think it was clear that Tubby had plateaued here, at best, but I'm not about to yell at him for thinking that a thing that exists exists. Gardy should've been fired, too, along with most of the front office of that clownshoes organization. (Would you believe that even Bill Smith was only demoted?) For that matter, Spielman should also have been fired.

Knew Fitz a little bit growing up and he's a good guy. Tough to imagine he disliked whites so much that he sent his kids to the mostly white Holy Angels instead of South or Washburn or even DLS. FYI discussing racism (real or perceived) and prejudice against 1 group does not mean that person dislikes another group.

I don't think Fitzgerald is racist. Its unfortunate he feels every time a black coach, business leader, manager, etc...is fired, its because of race. Its similar to listening to Sharpton every time someone questions the ability of a black leader...its always due to race. Pretty sad and does nothing to advance the cause.

What the hell would you call it?

Tubby had become complacent, and excuse maker, a complainer and inept.

Gardy was given a horse**** roster.

Speilman has only been in charge for a couple years. He'll have to prove his worth.

racism is believing another race is inferior to yours. It blows my mind that people call it racist for a person to talk about perceived racism. There's a huge difference between claiming racist things happen and believing you're superior to another race or discriminating against another race

My complaint is that there are so many racial injustices that occur in the country, that for this guy to place emphasis on the high profile ones that have little to no basis in reality defeats the overall pursuit of justice.

Would you prefer reverse-racism?

the entire notion of 'reverse racism' is ridiculous and was created by people that were uncomfortable and sometimes offended by minorities discussing race publicly. It doesn't exist.

Exactly. These people hurt their cause more than they help it.

How so? There are plenty of people that call out racial injustices and are completely ignored. Groups that do the same thing are ridiculed. So how is a guy talking about Tubby Smith taking attention away from racial injustice elsewhere? The only way that can happen is if people say 'I disagree with you on this so I'm going to ignore you and others when they bring up race'. If that's the case I'd argue that's more of an indictment about the person forming that opinion than the writer they're disagreeing with

In many people's minds, it's a crying wolf situation.

What do you call it when someone keeps blaming others for being racist when in fact it is not?

In many people's minds, it's a crying wolf situation.

And they could be correct but that's not the real issue. The real issue is that many people that don't feel like they're affected by racism don't want to hear about it and they definitely don't want to hear about it if they disagree or don't think a situation was racist, and the folks that feel like they are affected want to bring light to things they feel are racist. So a guy like Fitz pisses off people that A-disagree with him and B- don't want to hear about race in the first place

What do you call it when someone keeps blaming others for being racist when in fact it is not?

It depends. If its a matter of opinion then I call it misguided opinion. If it's blatantly accusing people of things with nothing to base it on I call it being a rabble rouser as that's what writers, tv personalities and politicians do regularly. Often what we're talking about though is a black guy saying 'these things have racist connotations' and a white person saying 'no it doesn't and implying that it does makes you racist against white people'.
