Doogie says Brewster a no-brainer for Turkey of Year,

Knowing Patrick though, he likes to think out-of-the-box somewhat with that distinction ... Brew is too easy for him, so he may go in a diff. direction.

Doogie, I don't understand how you can say everything you did in your article and still cling to this "he deserves another year" position. It's OK to change your mind in the face of new evidence.

That's how Doogie rolls. He rips away and then tries to pretend he isn't biased against Brewster. It is so obvious, it is laughable.

It's rare for a D 1-A school to fire a coach after 3 years, and I am curious to see him with all of his own starters (Gray or Alipate over Weber at QB and Collado maybe the nickel guy again ... Collado a Mason recruit) ... the issue: He doesn't deserve a cont. ext., so do you let him become a lame duck? If they announce his firing tomorrow, I will not rip the decision.

It's a joke. Wild are in a strong hockey market, making money hand over fist, and are in near last place. Their former best player is second in scoring in the NHL. The Wild fans have been swindled for 10 years. They had to watch Lemaire's boring teams and then this.

The U hockey team is struggling with a talent base second to none.

The T-Wolves may be the worst team ever in the NBA.

And Brewster deserves it because they lost by 12 points on the road to a team likely to go to a BCS bowl? A top 15 team?

Doogie, you are not a deep thinker.

A team playing its backup QB, and its backup RB for most of the game ... With Stanzi and all of Robinson, Iowa wins by more ... and the Gophers still wouldn't have scored ... for me, it's a joke to not score a point two straight years against your co-main rival.

Well, but the biggest criticisms of Brewster are his incompetence on game day and his apparent lack of coaching ability. And none of those things are affected by whether "his" players are on the field or not. So are you suggesting that he'll figure out how to coach if he has his own recruits on the field instead? That seems like a pretty big leap to me.

I don't see how the two points contradict eachother. I'm guessing he thinks Brewster deserves a 4th year for many reasons, including getting a full chance to coach his recruits, and taking over a team has a learning curve.

However, that doesn't mean that he thinks Brewster's done a stellar job, just that he deserves a full chance to try to put the pieces together.

As for the Turkey of the Year part...I think many have given a number of reasons why he'd be a candidate. I don't feel the need to give more, or bash our coach on GH.

I too - don't think Brew will get it, it usually is someone less expected.

Examples?

your love affair with dantonio?

he is 6-6, gave up dam near half the gopher td passes we got this year in our game with them

and was left with twice the senior and junior talent that brewster has

Correct, but at that point the behind-the-scenes excuses are gone ... make next year the total evaluation year ... in-game adjustments by the way did get a tad better this year, at least early on.

I thought there would be a lot to rip on in this blog, but their really wasn't. The only major issue I had with it is the last paragraph basically saying "spare me the Ferentz, Alvarez, Barnett talk". I don't think you can discount that talk as nobody would have guessed any of those coaches would have had huge success going in to their 4th year on the job.

Personally, I believe Brewster has to get 8 wins next year and win a rivalry game to justify an extension. A good A.D. would be able to make the determination NOW whether or not that benchmark can be accomplished.

your love affair with dantonio?

I'm not quite sure I ever compared him to Urban or Mack or anything like that ... remember saying that I would take him over Brew ... had success at Cincinnati, and now Kelly is kicking butt there, and had lots of success last year ... took a step backward this year ... how would that make me a HACK?

EG#9 -- Maybe bad decision making on my part, but there were indicators in all 3 situations that year No. 4 could be a success ... certainly not Pasadena or Miami-like, but to a certain level YES ... I am missing any indicator for next year even though I love the DTs and Troy S.

Doogie

I agree with most of that. But a 3-year $18M deal? Come on! That makes no sense. No new coach gets a three year deal and no coach is going to get $6M per year.

Oh crap ... did I type that? Typo ... my bad ... mean 6-yrs, $18 mil.

Thanks for the catch ... yes, 3-yrs, $18 mil. would be unheard of ... even for ND.

That makes sense. I would love for us to make a run at a big timer if/when we have to fire Brewster.

Ok now this is a joke. First of all Robinson played in the game and got injured just like Nate Triplett and D'Jon McKnight for the Gophers. The Gophers were without that their top 2 WR's and lost their no.3 WR during the game. I don't see any basis for your hypothetical any more than someone saying the Gophers win this game if Decker plays. Again, the Gophers easily could have "scored a point" if they wanted too. What is worse: not scoring a point, or kicking field goals that don't do anything to help you win the game?

Agreed. Why can Stanzi be part of the discussion but not Decker. Decker is way, way more important to Minnesota than Stanzi to Iowa.

I stand by my deep thinker comment.

My guesses:
1)Wild front office- personnel decisions to continual sellout announcements.
2)Chili- hard line with Farve only to cave.
3)Maybe a local High School dynasty coach.
4)Roger Goodall- for being J Edgar Hoover.
5)Paul Allen-for being so over-the-top.

and the Gophers still wouldn't have scored ... for me, it's a joke to not score a point two straight years against your co-main rival.

nothing said herein denies that there are problems with the offense; something seriously has to improve.

however, it is ironic doogie that the gophers could have kicked a field goal just to make you happy. but then again that would not have helped win the game when the gophers needed two touchdowns. instead they went for it a couple of times on fourth down, instead of kicking the field goal just to make the people like you happy. so...... yeah it was a joke. but then again so is your knowledge of football and coaching.

just so we would not have to read the usual superficial analysis provided by you i guess he should have kicked that field goal.

Lucia is going to be tough to beat. His program is a mess.

Brewster should really be judged on 2011 and not 2010 because that's when he'll have a significant amount of seniors for the first time. And one of our greatest weaknesses, the offensive line, really won't be good until 2012 or 2013 with all of the incoming good recruits.

I can't believe how many long-time gopher fans (younger then 60) have developed such a large case of impatience in a couple of years.

Really? You do realize that same backup QB and backup RB did very well at Ohio St and took them to the wire right? No, sorry, I forgot that you don't watch college football. I will cease ripping Doogie today since Gopherholers are tired of it.

EG -- I will grant you this: The zero points point is an easy line to deliver ... you are right, they could've kicked a FG ... more disappointed in the offense as a whole ... "Pound the Rock" yet will finish last in the Big Ten in rushing and among the worst teams in the country ... they will finish dead last in the Big Ten in just about every offensive category ... college football is all about offense, offenses rock ... yet the Gophers' was horrible.

Why no response on the Alvarez, Ferentz, Barnett indicator take?

Robinson was nice vs. OSU ... but he got hurt yest. ... his backup came in, the same backup who didn't get a carry vs. OSU ... and the QB showed good arm strength in the OSU game, and proved that his mom looks like his sister thanks to the ABC cameras, but he also threw 3 picks.
