I agree with many of the things Doogie says, let's face it there are some issues that need to be addressed. I also realize Doogie's got it out for Brewster & he's an out of work blogger who's cut 'n' pasted pieces read more like they're written to impress potential employers in other markets where he hopes to become their local inflammatory Reusse or Barreiro. When times get tough people always go to what they know works. Doogie knows the top dogs in our market are all negative guys who attack the local teams, so that's what he's trying to emulate. It's just a calculated business decision, imo. If there was money to be made pumping up Brew that's what he'd do. Just business folks.
So, I do agree with many of his points but he's also a loud mouth who makes some silly statements such as....
"Mason left more talent than you believe ... Mason left 5 win talent and Brewster turned that into 1 win ... coaching was a reason in '07 why they lost a handful of games by 7 points or less.".
That's just nonsense. Mason left very, very little ready-to-play talent & Mason knew it. That's why he had uncharacteristically gone out and signed 7 Jucos to play defense. Mason knew that defense would be the worst he'd ever coached and the only prayer was Juco talent. When he was canned we lost those Jucos and there was no time to recruit new ones. Then, due to no fault of his own Brew lost DJ, Massey, Daniels, EJ Jones and McField (* Timeline, perhaps McField was already gone???). DJ was our best player, Massey was expected to start at either corner or safety, Daniels was expected to start somewhere & EJ Jones was expected to contribute at RB. Then add in that Brew was left with an untested Freshman QB and an injured starting RB.....I just don't see the 5 win talent & neither does anyone else without an agenda. I'll agree we might of squeezed out 2 wins with a more experienced coach, maybe 3 if everything went our way that season but really what's the difference at that point?
