Do you approve of Harbaugh should he become coach at Michigan?

I prefer the Gophers reaching Helmet School excellence to dumbing down the conference. I want to beat great teams, not mediocre teams. We can do that!

Fair enough. Me personally? I just want wins at this point. I'll start upping the expectation of quality once we've improved to the point that 8 wins is the minimum expectation

Jim Harbaugh. and the all or nothing approach from Michigan, and if it was his choice and could jump at it. He hasn't. Some think Black Monday will come and the 49ers will release or trade him. See "Chucky" Jon Gruden going from Oakland to Tampa for Draft Choices. The Michigan offer is a base, from which Harbaugh can negotiate. Would he cross the Bay and take the Raiders Job? Maybe he likes Florida, Tampa or Jacksonville. New York Jets? Chicago? He can make as much or More in the NFL and Still Chase the Lombardi Trophy.

And if Harbaugh decides on the NFL. Michigan will do what?

No owners or GMs in college. U of San Diego and Stanford would love to have his act back.

There may not be owners or GMs, but there are big money boosters who want their butts kissed. I don't think Harbaugh would be up for that.

It is interesting to speculate. Obviously, he can't publically say anything as the NFL season isn't over It would be difficult to say your going to Mich. and still coach the 49ers.

On the other hand, Michigan seems to wait, so they must have some indication.

The speculation continues.

The more enjoyable question to speculate on at this point. Michigan is a dumpster fire and I hope it burns for a little bit longer. I want them to offer the job to a nobody and suck on it for a while longer. Don't care if it is a good hire or bad hire, don't care if they come back to greatness and frankly would love for them to be a .500 squad for the next 10-50 years. Just as long as in this moment, we get to dance around the dumpster fire that is Michigan football and relish the misery that they so enjoyed when that fire burned under the teflon shi+thole that we used to play in.

There is absolutely no guarantee that Harbaugh brings them back to prominence. Besides, he'll take the first NFL HC job he's offered.

just what I was thinking. I dont care if they ever win another game.

Ditto these comments. I'd rather see another team rise to greatness. I'm fine with Michigan continuing to be a basement dweller. The never ending insistence that only certain programs will ever succeed in the long term is stupid. Whoever steps up steps up.

Some of the responses in threads like this make me wonder if back in the mid 60's any writers/fans opined that a strong Minnesota football team is essential for the success of the Big Ten.

I don't know why anyone would cheer for a "down" Big Ten. Michigan is a huge part of helping the conference get back to the top.

Our future Rose Bowl victories are going to taste sweet no matter the status of the conference. I guarantee it.

Do you think Michigan State would rather be playing in the Orange Bowl or Cotton Bowl? Seeing as how tickets to the Cotton Bowl are 4 bucks, I'll assume they'd rather be in the Orange Bowl.

A better Big Ten likely gets them there.

That could be us someday.

A better Big Ten might have even gotten Ohio State a 3 seed and avoided Alabama. That could be us someday too. Like in the year 2354.

There is such a place that gives several of you that are wishing mediocrity to the rest of the B1G, exactly what you want.

It is called the MAC.

I'd rather be 7-5 in a highly respected B1G than 10-2 in the MAC.

Just think your wishes through to their logical conclusions, should they be granted.

I want the BIG to win every bowl it plays in and I want the Gophers to continue to climb the ladder in a resurgent B1G... not one where it is a shell of itself and the champ is left out of the playoff.

Michigan would take and keep the Jug for as long as he coaches. No, he should stay the pros and take on his brother.

If I shared this opinion, I would throw away all my maroon and gold gear, and I would move on. I would end my Gopher football fandom on the spot.

Michigan kicked our asses with good coaches for the better part of half a century. They hired a turd, and we kicked their ass in the Big House. I prefer the scenario where we continue to kick their ass repeatedly for decades, and the Michigan fans go crazy for the one win every decade over the mighty Gophers. If Michigan is going 11-1 every year, that means we likely aren't being them very often. I hope the hire a turd, and the next 50 years went exactly the opposite the previous 50 years have in the Little Brown Jig rivalry.

I'm sick of watching my Gophers get their ass kicked every year by Michigan. I want to cheer for the team doing the ass kicking, and I doubt that is likely if Harbaugh takes over in Ann Arbor.

It's very simple

You want Harbaugh at Michigan. You want Michigan to be good. You want the Gophers to stomp on 'em for the next 100 years!

We beat Michigan this year. It was awesome! But many, many people made it into a buzz kill, because Michigan
wasn't very good, Michigan is a dumpster fire, etc etc....on and on. Satisfaction will be at it's highest beating Michigan with an arrogant unlikeable successful coach.

Absolutely, the better the conference is...the greater the staying power of satisfaction in us winning the conference.

Change your mindset...we are becoming that dominant team that rules the Big Ten. Brick by brick!

Absolutely not. In the 1960s when only one Big Ten team went to a bowl game each year, fans did not want Michigan or Minnesota or Indiana or whoever else to be strong.

In case you've just awaken from a 40-50 year coma, let's get you up to speed:

By June 30 of this year (2014), 11 schools — excluding Nebraska — are expected to receive around $27 million each from television agreements, NCAA distributions, bowls and the league's football championship game and the men's basketball tournament.

In a document obtained by the Journal & Courier through an open records request from Purdue University, 12 of the 14 schools are projected to receive $44.5 million each through the league's distribution plan when the new television contract is agreed upon in 2017-18.

I hope he doesn't. In what way does Michigan being great again help us? I couldn't care less about conference prestige. We're not losing our power 5 status no matter what and if we win the conference we're going to the Rose Bowl (or an equivalent).

Couldn't have said it better...

The B1G will always be superior to the MAC, and will never lose it's place as a power 5 conference. Michigan had no issues beating up on us for 40 years when we were down, and I'll have no qualms about doing the same to them.

Yeah, Michigan treasured all of their Wacker wins.

You wanna be the man, you gotta beat the man woo!

I wanna beat them when they're at their best, not their worst.

Well, I want to beat them at their worst also, but I would prefer that we rise up to be a force, than to hope they fall to a lower level, if only to become an easier victim.

Thank you.

If you have an opinion that differs from this, you care more about opinions of people on TV than you do success of the Gopher football program.

The ONLY way I can manipulate my mind into wanting Michigan to be good again is that they would be another quality team in the other division to stand as a road block to the badgers should they be in the championship game in case OSU is on probation. Other than that twisted scenario, I want every team the Gophers play to be sick with the flu, down to their 3rd string QB and playing for a lame duck coach.
