David Mutaf

This probably doesn't belong in a Mutaf thread, but at what point are you hurting the development of younger, more promising players while you wait/hope for 2018 Gabe to come back. Guys like Williams have shown they are more deserving of minutes so far this year.

A 6th man role for a "defensive specialist" like Gabe seems like the perfect spot for him.

My guess is Pitino is giving Gabe the chance to break the shooting slump in the non-conference games. If he doesn't turn it around soon, Mashburn Jr. and Tre will eat into his minutes and possibly start over Gabe.

Gabe is like Eric Murray was for the football team. He blankets the guy he is guarding and gives him little space to work, but he doesn’t rack up the steals (or interceptions in Eric Murray’s case). The best way to see how well Gabe (or Eric Murray) defended was to look at the stats of the offensive player he guarded at the end of the game.

You need more than that in basketball at this level, get in the Big Ten with a guy on the court that isn't an offensive threat and you become much easier to defend.

I agree. I’m not saying that Gabe should be a starter, especially given the alternatives. But he is a good defender.

He was surprisingly more skilled than I expected. I realize he was playing against the Kansas City backups, but he had a better handle and looked like a guy who could be a pretty solid offensive player.

Mutaf is the best Gopher player since _________ ________.
Im torn between Mychal Thompson and Bobby Jackson.
Man, you and USAF must feel like the big men on campus hating on Mutaf and anyone who thinks he's going to be a good player. Hate to break it to ya but he's only going to get better.

He looked great last night. Mystery as to why he hasn't been getting minutes. Maybe that has been the plan all along to get him acclimated. I hope so. I wouldn't mind him getting 10 minutes next game and seeing what he can do.

Relax. I said liked Mutaf. Anyone who doesn’t completely agree with you is a troll or a hater.
The reaction to his 4 garbage minutes against a a bad team are a little over the top for me.

If he gets 10 minutes against Illinois I think that means we’re down 30+

I have no clue but if I was to make a guess I would have to say defense at this point.

Yes, there was a defensive series where he did a pirouette after losing who he was supposed to be guarding. KC missed the open cutter whom Mutaf had lost.

Pitino also said in the postgame presser that the pandemic was hard for David to stay in shape especially. Sounds like Carr had gym facilities; Mutaf did not.

If he gets anywhere between 0 - 40 minutes may mean we are down 30+ points to Illinois. A bunch of players who can get to the rim and they are at 47% from the three point line. Also of course very strong inside. They basically toyed with Duke. We will need to be at our best and hope they are not.
