So he’s had a tough schedule so far. Let’s see what happens over the next 3-4 weeks. But according to ESPN here is where he ranks in the big 10 about 35-40% into the season:
12th in rating
10th in comp %
7th in yards
12th in YPA
12th in TDs
Tied for 4th most ints…

So yeah he’s basically a lower half QB so far in the conference. Hopefully that changes

Wonder how those other QBs would have done against those same defenses and with our offensive line???

To me Brosmer passes the eye test. He's a very good college QB. He has really good pocket presence and accuracy. I don't see him missing a lot of opportunities, considering how much time he has had to throw (or lack thereof). The Michigan defense held Miller Moss of USC to 55% completions, yet Brosmer threw for 68% with presumably worse WRs and worse OL (and according to many here, a terrible OC).

Thats fair, but Brosmer has also played against 2 low level teams and a NC team that gave up tons of points and yards to other teams.

As I said, we should have a clearer picture in a few weeks. I am hoping he gets himself into the top 3rd of the conference.

I don't disagree with you that our offense needs to improve. I just don't think Brosmer is the reason. He's probably last on my list of things that need to improve.

Here's an interesting comparison: Max Brosmer vs. Miller Moss...

Moss: 106 of 162 / 65.4% / 1198 yards / 8 TD / 2 INT / 7.4 yards per attempt / 141.4 rating

Brosmer: 102 of 154 / 66.2% / 1094 yards / 6 TD / 4 INT / 7.1 yards per attempt / 133.6 rating

Moss has played one less game, correct? And one could argue against a better schedule, although same ballpark

He was jittery and not very good against UNC, but since then has been pretty rock solid.

That impacts the 'quantity' stats — total yards, total TDs, etc.

It would have no bearing on completion percentage, yards per attempt and rating.

Both teams played against Michigan. Brosmer played against Iowa's defense, while Moss against LSU's. Iowa is currently 15th in the nation in scoring defense, LSU is 53rd. I think we'd agree that Moss is surrounded by more talent than Brosmer.

I'd say Max is objectively doing pretty well so far.

The passer rating formula puts a lot of weight on passing TDs, so the 3 rushing TDs didn't help improve Brosmer's rating much last night (his passer rating would be ~141 if those were passing TDs). But here are the latest stats. Meanwhile Kaliakmanis threw 40% against Nebraska and is at 55.6% for the season.

The UCLA game will be a test for Max. Here's what I see:

As a team, USC is clearly a tougher adversary than UCLA, but...

USC's defense is vulnerable to an opponent that can run the ball well, and Minnesota did just that. Brosmer made some key plays, but the Gopher rushing attack (as well as short throws to the running backs) were exactly what was required to beat them.

UCLA's defense, on the other hand, is much better against the run than they are vs. the pass. Max and the Gophers will need to throw the ball effectively to win in the Rose Bowl. I have a feeling Max will be key next week.

Hopefully Fleck has loosened his death grip on the offense.

I'm not quite ready to say that our rushing attack is back to the old days. USC's rushing defense is tied for second to last in the conference in terms of yards per carry allowed (5 yards per carry). Our rushing defense has issues too. USC averaged 6.1 yards per carry last night and, of course, Iowa shredded us on the ground. One wonders what might have happened if USC decided to run more and pass less. USC passing more played into our defensive strength. Good thing that UCLA is the worst running team in the conference so far at 2.7 yards per carry.

UCLA is averaging only 14 points per game and has given up an average of 30 points per game so far but they have played a brutal schedule. We should be favored. Please take care of business next weekend and head into the bye week on a high note.
 



At the game last night, it seemed like our LB play wasn’t to good. Seemed not to fill run gaps (maybe USC OL was getting to second level). Also LBs were invisible in crossing routes USC ran all night. Didn’t listen to any game commentary live, so this is just an impression. But I think our LB play seemed not very effective.

It's USC and the 11th ranked team. They have better talent at about 18 of 22 spots. Enjoy the win

It was OK at times. There is still a tendency to over-pursue and get themselves out of position. Baranowski was also out. There is much to learn and improve upon, but so much better after a win!
