With the ridiculous salary Johnson is getting, doubtful there will be much money to bring in top flight assistants.

I'm impressed by what he posts on Twitter, analyzing the Gopher games and other games. Also read a couple articles where he gets into schematics. He's versed in various O and D schemes and has taken various things from coaches he played for, particularly his pro coaches.
 


I still like idea idea of adding Trent tucker as the director of player development or something like that.

I would be shocked to see Miles come be an assistant for a coach who screwed him over and broke a promise to him.

He also promised a 3 year commitment as part of getting the job with Miles which he agreed to and then bailed after one season to go to another school in the same conference. Regardless on the semantics, I’d be shocked if Miles worked for him after that.

I realize he's not going to rip him in the press, but he didn't seem that betrayed:

Nebraska men’s basketball coach Tim Miles confirmed Monday that assistant coach Ben Johnson has resigned to accept the same position at Minnesota.

Johnson, a native of Minneapolis, is a Minnesota graduate who played two seasons with the Gophers. He leaves Nebraska after spending only one season on Miles’ staff.

“I’m disappointed Ben’s going, but I support him in the same sense,” Miles said. “It’s home for him, he played there and he graduated from there. I’m understanding of the move. He’s a good coach, a good recruiter, a great young guy.”

7. A Dave Thorson disciple​

Johnson played for former longtime DeLaSalle coach Dave Thorson in the late 1990s just as Thorson started his dynasty. Thorson won nine state championships during his time with the Islanders. He left after 23 years to become an assistant coach at Drake. Thorson is now in his third season as an assistant at Colorado State. Don't be shocked if he ends up joining Johnson's staff.

Is Thorson considered an offense or defense guy?
 




Tom Ostrom was a Co-Associate head coach for Archie at Indiana (came with him from Dayton) who also previously coached at Arkansas. He's also from Minnesota and out of a job now that Archie was fired. I really hope somone with experience in the Big Ten is on the staff. I think Miles would be better as a former head coach, but someone like Ostrom might make sense if you can't get Miles.

I would hope the "recruiter" on staff has ties to somewhere outside of Minnesota as Ben should be carrying the load in state as that's what he was hired to do.
 

Welp, according to a wide survey of coaches undertaken by Jeff Goodman, Tom Ostrom was voted by his peers as being the 4th best assistant coach in the B10, and being the associate head coach at IU under Archie Miller, he is currently unemployed. Ostrom is a Minnesota grad (class of '97), is considered to be a defensive whiz, and is also widely lauded for his recruiting abilities. He's spent time learning under Billy Donovan, John Pelphrey, Archie Miller, and........................Clem Haskins, as an undergrad assistant with the program. :)

If the U can manage to get past its utter self-flagellation over that last part, Ostrom seems eminently worthy of receiving at least a phone call from us in order to gauge any possible interest.

Ostrom is a good shout. He was the primary recruiter for Miller's three biggest commits in Romeo Langford, Trayce Jackson-Davis and Khristian Lander (Lander hasn't really panned out yet).

This is a lot better thread than the bicker and moan alternative. Time to move on and focus on hopefully a great staff and work the heck out of both prep and transfer portal which is only increasing in numbers.
