Arkansas paper says they are talking to Tubby and close to hiring him

According to Schmit and KSTP tweet. To tell the truth I dont care and am just sick of this every year.
 

It's actually a Texas paper. I'd be shocked if this turned out to be true, but we do know that Tubby was at the airport, for what it's worth. Tubby just seems like a man with too much integrity to tell everybody that he's going to stick it out, and that he'll sign an extension, and then to turn around and flee after leaving us at the bottom. Don't see it happening.
 





The hits just keep coming. I feel bad for the team to have to go through this every year.
 

Part of me hopes this is true just to make this stop every year.

Of course after this year - I wouldn't mind a fresh POV

Most of the posters I have seen on the Arkansas board seem to think it will likely be Buzz Williams from Marquette since Anderson will not likely leave Mizzou.
 

If this is true, and Tubby was meeting with them at the same time he was saying how much he loved it here and wanted to retire here, I will lose every bit of respect I have for him,, and that is a lot of respect.

Surely this has to be a crazy rumor.
 

Wasn't Tubby to Oregon "almost done?" I'm not saying it isn't happening, but I'm also not taking this as fact right now until I get an official statement from Tubby and/or the U.
 

He has already moved on to the Arkansas board.

That is what I have been hearing as well from National Television and Radio programs.


Would be a big blow to lose Smith. Maturi would have to make another major hire...
 

There's a million threads on the topic, but I don't buy this for a second. Just a rumor, won't turn out to be true. If it does, I too instantly lose all respect for Tubby.
 


Joel may get to hire a new football, basketball and hockey coach this year...the University of Minnesota where amazing happens.
 

If Tubby were to leave, I wonder what happens to this recruiting class that I'm excited about...

No way i believe the rumor. Julian Welch said in an article a week or 2 ago that he wanted to find out if Tubby was staying at Minnesota before making a decision. I just can't believe Tubby would tell a new recruit one thing, and then leave a week later.
 

On another note, this would be a big blow to the program. Leaving for Arkansas, not exactly a great job. Except for the run Richardson had with them 10 years or more ago, they have not been a force in the SEC, which is not exactly known for BB, save Kentucky and Florida.

Most of the posters on the Arkansas board also think it's normal to have relations with farm animals.
 



That's my initial reaction as well. I lose a TON of respect for him if he does this. Especially after giving a kid his 'word' that he was going to sign an extension.

Billy Gillispie has had conversations with officials at Texas Tech concerning him replacing Pat Knight as basketball coach; but the job has not yet been offered to him, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Gillispie has also had informal contact about the jobs at Arkansas and just-opened Oklahoma. The source said, however, that Arkansas has already had face-to-face contact with and is close to hiring Minnesota coach Tubby Smith.

Arkansas fired John Pelfrey on Sunday.

I'll believe it when I see it. Tubby just said Minnestoa was going to be his last job. Seems like he wouldn't say something like that if there was even a possibility he might leave now or in the future.

If he does leave, I'd love to get Flip. He's a guy that would legitimately coach until he retires, he loves the U.
 


I can't belive all this kerfuffle over this. How many times has Tubby been said to be hired somewhere else? I don't buy it and I think everyone should just take it as cooler talk and nothing more.
 

Could be getting an offer for leverage on his contract extension with the Gophers. Joel might tell him to pack his bags if he knows Flip would come.

For the record I want Tubby, Flip would be awesome when he retires though.
