Anyone get kicked out of the game today?

Can we move on to the next topic, "People who sit on their hands"?

Myself and the people around me probably sat for 80% of the game. We stood up on big plays and defensive 3rd downs. If we gained 7 yards on a first down run, I didn't feel like I had to stand up. I still cheered for the nice gain however. You can do that sitting down too. Standing up doesn't make your cheer any louder.

huh

I was walking by this mess and swore I saw the police/security dumping out some booze. Is that possible?

Should we entitle this as 212-gate? Lot's of speculation going on - someone mentioned there's a lot more to this story. This could get interesting.

211 Gate. We need a Fox 9 News team investigation. Can you say hidden camera?

I got to hug Willy the Wildcat during the game. That was pretty awesome.

We stand quite frequently in 111 and if anyone ever asks us to sit down, I kindly tell them to stand up. I tell them I can't sit for long periods of time because I get leg cramps and have had bouts with blood clots in my legs. That shuts them up right away. One older guy last year got on me pretty good and I told him he should have gotten seats in the old coot section where there is no donation and they sit on their butt all game long.

If that guy that threatened your wife is a season ticket holder and you can find out his identity I would press charges against him and The U for harrassment

I have talked with Scott Ellison of the University and here is an email that I sent to him shortly after having talked with him for a good 45 minutes. I did get a response back from the email letting me know that they are investigating the threats towards my wife.

Now say whatever you want. Rip what I have said here or dont. But I know I made a mistake and have apologized for it.

And just one quick comment there was no booze. They did pat us all down and look for booze but we did not have any one us. So they were dumping out booze that was someone else.

Mr. Ellison,

What we did was wrong. When security came to us we should have sat down. We got caught up in the moment and thought we were right. I have no right to disrupt others game experience and I have no right to tell security how to do their jobs. I feel that I did not use good judgment with security and I am sorry for that. In fact I am embarrassed with how I acted. This was my first time in all of my years of going to sporting events that I even once had to talk with security. I am embarrassed by that.

I do not feel though as if we were in the wrong up until the point that security came down. Did we stand more than some people in the stadium? Yes. Did we stand on every play? No (not until after security came to us did we do this). I do not agree with people that need to stand for the whole game and I do not agree with the people that think we should only stand on a few plays. As we talked about on the phone when to stand is very subjective. I am not sure fans will ever agree to this point but hopefully there is a happy medium someplace and maybe that will come as our team becomes better.

What I need to agree with is that there is a possibility of 50,000 other fans in the stadium at one time. I am only one of the 50,000 and chances are my behavior either good or bad will only affect those other 50,000 when it is a negative behavior.

I will not stop standing and cheering, I will not stop having a good time at the games. I will however try to pay attention to how others are affected by how I am acting.

I am sorry for my actions. I hope people on all sides can understand and accept this apology.

I do know my wife is still upset about the threats she received. I cannot verify those threats but I do know that she is still having a hard time believing an older man would threaten to follow a 30 year old, 5'3" 120lb woman out to her car.

Also I am not sure if there is a written report but I would like to see it if there is one.

My apologies,

Seems pretty good to me, retrogoldy. Your apology is a classy gesture in my opinion, and just take this as a learning experience, which it seems you already have. :)

Now as for the guy threatening your wife, in my opinion he should have his tickets revoked, as there is NO excuse for behavior such as that. I mean that's just so far beyond the bounds of acceptable behavior that it's just ridiculous, so hopefully you will get some kind of resolution there.

+1. Very nice email Retro. I can see how you would lose your cool when being told to sit down. I've been told 2x at the Bank (Wisky and Northwestern) to sit down and barked back with vigor each time. Maybe these people could try asking instead of demanding and using idle threats. I enjoy college football and want to cheer the team when they need a big stop or make a big play. Funny thing is I go to Vikings' game and tend to stand a lot less even though standing is very common and happens a lot more. At the Detroit game a father and son a number of times stood in front of me, I just moved my head and kept watching. Anyways, I think I've learned a lesson from your story Retrogoldy: when someone finally rats me out as fetches the mall cops I will sit down. However, I will be like Obi-Won and become stronger in my death. I know I've converted a few people in section 211 to standing up for our D on 3rd downs and will continue to every man, woman and child rises in unison and yells D-fense.

I love my seats at the back of 243. Stand the whole game with no complaints :)

You guys are great back there. It makes for an excellent game experience. Was it one of you that yelled down to Northwestern to stop scoring so fast? My wife and I are still laughing about that.

I wonder if anyone will be kicked out of the game saturday for standing this weekend......or jumping

+1, very classy

I do think the whole thing could have been avoided if the original guy didn't come down and yell at you guys. If he's nice about it, i bet you guys don't stand as often.

So here is a little more background on the story. And it was not me foam hat but my younger brother.

We have had season tickets for 6 years. The first 4 tickets were for my sister, her husband and my parents. A year after this myself and my wife joined and we added 2 more tickets. Then the year after that my younger brother added 2 tickets. So we have had 8 tickets for 3 years. We even kept my sisters 2 tickets this year after they have moved out of state. I have had a great time bringing people who have never been to the new stadium.

Last year we tailgated in a few different lots. We could have got 2 season passes but the person ordering tickets misunderstood what was meant by a donation. This year we have two passes and have had a great time tailgating. I have even made my wife look forward to leaving our house at 6am to be to the lots by the time they open at 7am.

So yesterday my wife and I got down to the lot at 7am. We got our tailgate set up and shortly after the other people in our group started showing up. We did egg bake, muffins and bloody's. And we also had some beer as well.

We got into the game just after kick off and made it to our seats. The first half was pretty entertaining football and we were out of our seats cheering on big plays mostly 3rd downs but we also cheer when there is a big stop on a pass play or if Weber drops back to pass we will stand up as he is doing this. We be no means will stand for the whole game.

Get to the second half of the game. Gophers are leading and we are excited. We are standing on all big plays and maybe by this point our excitement has caused us to stand for a few more. We were having a good time. Never swearing, never booing, never making obscene jokes or gestures.

That is when a fan from 5-6 rows behind us comes down and yells (not asks) for us to sit down. My brother and I thought this to be rude. Just ask us to sit. At this point we were not paying attention to how much we were standing and if we would have been ask to sit a little more we would have. Well being yelled at did not go over well. At this point we decided to stand up for good.

About 4 plays after this security came down and told us that we had to sit down or they would get the police and have us removed. We told them that we were at a college football event cheering for the team we loved and that standing at times was a part of the game.

Well after this they got the police. I guess it was a mixture of UMPD and MSP PD. They asked us to go to the top and so we did.

While we were up there an old man behind my wife started to berate her and threaten her that if she did not sit he would follow her out and kick her ass in the parking lot. Shortly after this my wife and my brothers friend we taken to the top by the police as well.

At the top we tried to state our case as they took down our names and addresses and it was at this point I was told that if i continued to talk I would end up being handcuffed and taken out. So I stoped fighting it. I was told I was being escorted out due to game interruption for standing.

When we were at the bottom of the elevator we asked for everyone's names involved in the case and we were told that if we wanted we could get a hold of the U of M and file a complaint but that we would not be given names.

Yeah maybe our standing was too much but I was at a college football game not a theater or a library. And yes i may have said "Go Badgers" yesterday on here but that was out of pure frustration with what had just happened and knowing that no matter who we write or contact that it will do nothing for us as we are just 4 fans compared to a whole University.

I know some will agree that we were treated unfair as some already have on here and some will say we got what we deserve for standing. And you can call me a little b!tch like some have on here. Good job at the name calling as you were just more vulgar with that comment then we were by standing up and cheering on our team.

Some may think there is more to this story but really if there was I would understand and would not be on here. But really it was STANDING that got me and 3 others kicked out. Nothing more and nothing less.

Too bad I wasn't there, I would have busted out my go-to "oooops, I spilled my whole large coca-cola down the front of your shirt....sorry" move on the prick who ratted you out. Let him watch the rest of the game absolutely doused in cold coke.

You should have stuck to your guns, this is a total puss move. It's security who should be writing you the apologetic email imo.
